I have no idea where precisely my tailbone is either :D , so I've decided I'll call TBL when it touches the floor when I sit. Almost there, but not quite!

I was pleased with my hair today, so here's a pic:

I've just reached waist so I was hoping I could join here :) However, like many people I am somewhat confused as to the location of TBL...hip would be shorter, right?

Yeah, hip is above tbl.

In general: waist --> hip --> bcl (butt crack length) --> tbl --> classic.

Average Tailbone is about 3-4 inches long. An easy placement is when you sit on something flat you hair would touch your seat. Then you would definately be TBL. Classic is about 3-4 inches below that. I have a large bum so Classic is more like 4-5 inches below TBl for me. I also have long arms for FTL is 50 inches on me. Almost to my knee.

If you sit down and prod around where your seat meets the seat, you should find it. Waist to tailbone seems like a long stretch to me or maybe I am made weirdly. I am short and high waisted and even on me the distance is 12 inches (2 years of average growth at best). As it happens I came here when I am brushing hip so it is only 8 inches away now. All these are stretched length of the longest layer--the only way I can measure somewhat reliably. When the hair is all curled up it is at brastrap, so I am really long way from tailbone. Waist to hip or bcl thread would be nice --no one can mistake the placement of bc!

Well, I've gone full circle, and after 4 years and a journey from barely claiming waist to a few inches past classic (about a year ago), I have conceded that I went through some kind of shed that made my hair from waist down very thin (it looked great when I was first at hip, but gradually thinned out even above that so I'm thinking I was reaching some kind of an end to a growth cycle, maybe near terminal, though I was still getting length). Anyway, I gradually cut back up to barely waist length with no layers and a U hemline, and I'm going to try again and see what happens. I did alot of microtrimming the first time round due to damage and layers. That is all gone, so I'm going to try growing with only occasional (6 month to a year?) trims to keep the ends neat and see how far I get. So, from waist to tailbone I go--again!

hi I'm joining you here now :D!

I know my ends are thin and my hemline uneven, but I dont mind that, but I'll try to dust/microtrim as it grows whitout cutting to much off :). It is a bit scary, I dont think my hair have been longer than this and I have no Idea if it will get any longer because it breaks off like crazy, but I keep S&D and hope for the best :)

It have been really damaged with colours and bleach and so on, but I do henna now. I have like 2 cm virgin roots to, and all the dark hair is just henna on top of virgin dark-blonde hair, the rest is henna on top of chemical damaged hair

waist to tailbone is a huge step and will take a lot longer because now, my short torso wont speed it up ;P

everyones hair is so long and pretty, and lippytoes, that uppdo was really cute :)!

Just so I'm clear, is hip length where your hipbones are, or where the widest part of you is below your waist? I know it's the latter when sewing, but that part of you definitely changes locations between standing and sitting.

It's at your hip bone, where it juts out in front (or in my case, where it should). We are asked that question so often, I'm thinking perhaps we should start calling it HBL for Hip BONE length. :)

Look at me, conforming like an innocent little newb. :)

Thanks for clearing it up for me, kitschy. I thought that was it, but when I mentioned it to my mother, she scoffed at the idea that I'm getting close to hip length in the back where my V hemline is at the bottom of my waist.

Tori Angell I feel you. I have had the maybe I'm at hip/not I can't be/Is it this place or this place for so long that I have given up and am just waiting to hit BCL. I have no idea if I'm at, before, or after hip. Oh well. BCL is pretty obvious ;) I've decided to wear it up for the next 12 weeks so by then maybe I will have a different length to analyze. I am about 4 inches from BCL right now. I really wanted to make it by 2014 but that might be a little crazy haha (come on miracle growth!)

Aaaaaaaaaand we're back! Hah. I got impatient and bleached all of my hair as I'd henna'd too many times and it'd gotten too dark. Stupid move. I also used a bad batch of henna that made my hair feel like straw. And then this happened... and this... and now my bangs are too short and my hair went from just hitting tailbone to back to just past waist.

*SIGH.......*

So I'm in a not cutting hair until the end of the year phase... unless I have to cut the ends for some reason. Must leave bangs alone. I need motivation. I am very unhappy with my hair length now. It feels so short and it was just feeling so long. :(

I am really happy with my hair right now. It has just reached solid waist for me at 31 inches. I really hope I keep up this growth rate, because I have been averaging about 3/4 in each month. I am hoping for another 3 inches by Christmas, which may be pushing it a little for my winter growth but even if I only get 2 inches I should be really close to hip by then. I will probably see tbl by Christmas 2014.

I'm also going for TBL by the end of 2014. My growth last summer was unbelievable but it slowed down in the winter and hasn't picked back up this summer. My tangles are starting to get a little out of hand. I may henna with Khadi light brown (for the first time ever!) to see if it helps. It may be as simble as clarifying. Is anyone having similar trouble with managability or lack there of? how do you deal with it?

August 10th, 2013, 05:04 PM
My hemline is ok I guess, but when I look through my fine hair in the sunshine I find waaay more splits than I'm comfortable with haha. I think I'm going to do a wear it up challenge until the end of the year and try forgetting about it until then. I'm also trying to transistion to WO so wearing it up will be... imperative.

Magalo your color is glorious

Worst of all, of course, is the fact that how wavy/wurly my hair is depends on the day. When I'm having a really good hair day, nice and wavy with some spirals and everything, my hair is only just at waist if I sit up straight. When wet, it's pretty darn close to hip (I think). I love the waves, but I wish I could let people know it's longer than it looks somehow!

hafattack
August 10th, 2013, 08:09 PM
I also feel like mine never looks long. It flips out like crazy and the end and twisting for cinnabuns just enhances that.

Just know that as it gets longer it will look even more amazing because of the waves.. There is something wonderous about Long wavy hair!

Tori Angeli
August 10th, 2013, 08:24 PM
Believe me, I wouldn't trade the waves for anything. It took a long time for me to embrace them, and after so long hating my hair's natural texture, I feel like I've earned some enjoyment from it.

Welp, I'm at least at elbow-length, since if I wear my hair down and I swing to one side for whatever reason it brushes the tip of my elbow. Elbow is slightly below waist for me, so I'm probably a couple of inches from hip at this point (I think I measured hip at 32"-ish, and as of July 20 my hair was at 29").

Still bopping around this thread! I'd hoped to be tailbone by now, and I probably would be almost there...but I got a chunk of my hair stuck in a barbed wire fence recently (don't ask, lol) and had to tear it free. The resulting trim was a loss of about 1.5-2 inches...not terrible but I won't be reaching tailbone as quickly as I'd hoped either.

Hairitic, your hair is beautiful! Congrats on BCL! It looks to be a very flattering length on you. :)

ghost - shudder: How awful! Hopefully the rest of you is okay.

I'm still bopping around as well. I was a bit beyond waistband-of-low-jeans-length (I don't have a discernible waist or hips... grr) but the last three inches have been driving me batty for months, so I cut off between 2 and 3 inches tonight. It feels a lot shorter, even though I'm still definitely past waist. I miss the length, but my hemline is so. much. better. and the tassel of my braid is softer and no longer crunchy. I think that's most of the remaining pre-LHC heat damaged hair. Hopefully I'll be back to waistband length by January.

I was hoping to reach tailbone by Christmas, but I've been stuck at elbow length for some time now. I also suspect it might be time to trim my ends as well, as they've been looking a bit scraggly lately. I'm running out of patience!

Joining this thread! I'm pretty sure I'm currently between waist and hip...current goal is hip, then on to BCL -> TBL -> classic !! Very excited. Just started co washing and cutting out most cones (this is coming from shampooing and conditioning every day with heavy sulfates and cones). I'm expecting to see some damage at first from lack of cones, so well see.

p.s. ~ my hair currently hits the bottom of my elbows...that would be past waist, right? Or no?

Just trimmed my hair yesterday. Now it's on waist lenght! Sadly, the last 2-3 inches are very thin, almost see-through! I guess that's because of the bleched highlights I had two years ago and poor haircare-knowledge... Oh well, luckily the rest of my hair is healthy and thick (thanks to the tips I got on LHC!) With my growth rate, I'll hit TBL on autumn 2014!
Happy growing, everyone! Patience is the key :)

Well. This is me, just about a half inch past tailbone finally. 39". I don't like it and will have to trim back to waist, I think. This is old highlights, peroxide and two sheds growing out, so that's my excuse for the raggediness! Although to be fair to my hair, this is after taking it down from an all-day bun, with bunwaves rapidly falling out.

Tori, If you stretch those waves do they hit the blue scarf? Do you want to reach that length wavy or stretched? I read in Elaine Masseys book about tyoing your curl based on difference between stretched and natural length and it was right on the mark for me. She types them swavy, boticelli etc. yours looks like s'wavy so you will reach your goal curly faster if that is indeed your goal. All in all very pretty waves--enjoy the present length

Tori, lovely waves!

Well, it seems I've actually made it to my goal length of BCL. Only temporarily, I'm sure, since I'm due for a trim in a couple of weeks - I won't actually consider myself to be at my goal properly until I'm still there after a trim, but... Still, getting there at all is something! (I think tailbone would be another inch and a half or so, but I don't think I'll be going that long.)

So this is my hair right now... just past boobie length, or as others may call it, just past waist length. I think it's actually back at waist now that it's back to its poofy state. I was hitting tailbone, but as much as I freaked out, I am glad for the change right now. I did some damage lightening it to get it back to a red henna rather than a burgandy henna. I'd henna'd a few too many times, and although my hair was beautiful and healthy, I wasn't happy that it was brown in doors.

I'm in love with the green! I plan to not cut anymore until December. That is my big goal. I will trim then if needed or a micro emergency trim before that if I have too. My hair tangles super easily and trims make a huge difference for me. Anywho, here is my hair. :)

Wow, everyone has such beautiful hair! :) Great progress everyone!

I was just starting to grow past waist, but I had to give myself two half-inch trims this week because I was starting to shed more (from 10-20 hairs a day to about 50 hairs a day). :( This happened to me before when I was this length, but much worse, and it only stopped when my mom cut my hair back to APL. As far as I can see, my shed rate is back to normal already, thank goodness! I'm so happy that I didn't loose a lot of length this time around. :joy: I'm only a little sad that it'll take me longer to finally get past waist, since it's sort of become a scary length for me that I just gotta pass. shudder:. Ah well, with each day I take better care of my hair, so I'll make it through sooner or later! :p

Getting a trim today, probably about 2-3" to get rid of extensive damage. Years of poor treatment, plus my bleach and dip-dye from 4 months ago have created a tangle-prone, dry, and splitting mess. I'm going to just bite the bullet and get all the dip-dye damage removed. I estimate I'll be around BSL after my trim. I'll going to hang out here in the waist to tailbone thread though...BSL to waist on me is a whopping 2" so I'll be back here soon enough anyway.

My hope is that if I trim a larger amount now then I can avoid trimming again for a while. I'm a teacher, so my thought is to trim now and then not trim again until the end of the upcoming school year. I haven't been caring for my hair as well as I could, so I'm going to make sure I'm treating my fresh ends nicely.

Ah well, with each day I take better care of my hair, so I'll make it through sooner or later! :p

50 hairs a day is absolutely nothing for me :D

My longest layers are at hip. Definitely feel like I need more length for it to start finally feeling long enough :D I thought the perfect length was hip-length, but no dice, gotta grow longerrrrr :rollin:

Normal shedding is around 50 - 150 hairs a day. 50 is a good day for me.

50 hairs a day is absolutely nothing for me
Oh yeah, I remember seeing those numbers in a thread here before. It's good to know that there's a lot of room in the normal range:p . I should have mentioned in my previous post that I only count the hairs I shed when I comb and braid/bun. So I probably shed much more than 10-20. Every time I vacuum at home, which is once a week, I get soo many hairs in the vacuum cleaner that I know are mine, and sometimes my dad has to cut them out for me. I don't know how that happens since I've stopped combing so often, and generally keep my hair up. I tend to get paranoid when I shed more than usual because of a bad shed in the past.

My hair is curly-ish, depending how many days since my last wash. When it hangs normal, it's just past waist.. when I pull it (as far as I can without feeling a pull in my scalp) it reaches to the top of my jeans.

Is it the hang length or the pull length?

It's the pull length. It wouldn't be fair to compare a curlys length to straighties length otherwise. So pull away when you measure ;)

It is? I always thought that body markers ("waist to tailbone") were marked by the hang length -- as in, you're only at waist when the hair looks like it's at waist. Measuring with a tape measure is of course only accurate on stretched hair, but for body markers... that was what I thought. Otherwise, I would have already had hair strands at BCL when really, I've never even been to hip (curly).
Though it is unfair for people with tightly curly hair with lots of shrinkage; I suppose you're right about that.

So did you end up trimming a lot patienceneeded? I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. Was the bleach really that bad then? I thought dip-dyeing would be a fun, minimal-damage way of playing with color for a little while. Of course you have to stick around on this thread anyway.

It is all upto you how you want to measure your length and growth. I have often seen dogmatic posts, 'no way no how can you claim x length' and it surprises me as I see this place as a support group and a helpful place to get tips in your hair growth journey. For those whose hair stretches out as it grows longer, measuring hang length (nice phrase) would work and for some it would probably never stretch out and appear waist or higher but they maybe knee length--surely one cannot deny that they have reached that length or that their hair needs care and upkeep that such a length requires.

There are days my hair appears to be higher than waist but it would be unfair on my part to hang out in bsl to waist thread as my hair is definitely past waist and into hip or beyond region when stretched. My experiences wont match others in that thread.

I had a look in the mirror after washing my hair today, and the longest part of my hair is at BCL when wet and stretched out. Finally! Tbl is about 1" away, so fingers crossed for good growth! I'd like to be at tbl when dry by the end of 2013. :)

I'm about 1" away from BCL while soaking wet. TBL for me is about 1.5" lower than BCL. In reality, I will need nearly 3 more inches to reach proper BCL length and about 5" for 'real-life' TBL. But I'm actually not really going for TBL, BCL is enough. I already have to 'watch out' when I'm wiping my butt and my hair is down :rollin::blushing:

I always have it in single braid and it would still grow, maby It have come to a point where it neads to be completly up instead? I dont want to beleave it is terminal just yet, if damage can grow that long my helthy hair (around my ears now) would be able to pass that

do you wear it up al time?

I just posted is in the mini-milestone thread, but I usually sleep with my hair down, but it has now reached a length where it annoys me half to death while I'm trying to sleep.

How do you guys wear your hair to sleep? I was thinking maybe a low braid, as I don't want to wake up with a headache from having it totally up, and I lay on my back sometimes so I think bun is out. Any suggestions?

I usually wear a low, sort of loose braid. Sometimes pigtail braids, but usually just one. Occasionally I'll bun it on the crown of my head, away from where my head hits the pillow, but not often. One braid is enough to keep the tangles to a minimum and keep it out of my way.

I braid mine too, low loose braid. I also have a sleep cap which works great when it works, but sometimes it either falls off of my head or gives me a headache for some reason so I only use it occasionally. When I've just washed my hair I wear it loose to bed as I wash in the evening so it's nearly dry in the morning.

Thanks guys. :) I'm gonna do a low, loose braid tonight before I go to sleep. I also have a satin sleep cap that I never use, it's sort of uncomfortable for me to wear to bed, and I'm sure it would fall off after a night of sleep. I'm looking into buying a silk/satin pillowcase instead.

Your hair looks lovely in your sig, animetor! And you're very close to hip.

Quick update since I'm on the thread... I've been getting massive tangles in the shower lately, which I think is due to the fact that I've been washing my hair less frequently (and hence, detangling less). After having spent several showers fighting my hair for a half-hour even with globs of conditioner, I've now more or less found a solution... pre-shower detangling.
I know, I know. It sounds like a no-brainer, but as a curly I just never detangle my hair dry. I used to find it really easy to detangle wet hair with conditioner, but something changed. Working my fingers through my ends on dry (but oiled) hair helps reduce the tangles I get when I wet my hair. Pretty relieved, since I was getting desperate. I've never had tangle problems before! (Possibly a milestone?)

Happy growing.

I think I might be at tailbone. I still can't locate it :D, but when I sit down and stretch my hair to its longest length, my hair pretty much reaches the seat. I'll have to take pics soon!

Am unsure if I want to grow even longer - I think this length is pretty much perfect, because I can still wear my hair down without it being a hassle (I'm wearing it down at work today and it's great), but I have enough length to do all the updos I want. But I've never had hair longer than this even as a teenager, so a part of me wants to continue growing just for curiosity's sake. Hmmmm!

Yep, same here. I'm currently at BCL and will probably hit TB by the end of the year. That was my original length goal, but now I'm unsure if I want to go to classic. I'm debating about maintaining at TB for a year to thicken the ends a bit (probably a smart idea) or just keep micro trimming until classic and then maintaining there. I know I don't want to go any longer than classic though. I think it would start to get in the way of other things I like to do, and could even be dangerous for things like rock climbing.

Thank you DarkCurls! I'm glad you figured out your tangle problem. I can't imagine going multiple days without detangling!! That would be a nightmare with my mostly straight hair, it would look like one giant bird's nest. And more tangles could definitely mean more length or at least greater thickness, so congratulations! Also I love your hair PamelaViktoria, the wave pattern is so pretty as is your color!

Hairitic and Vrindi, good to know I'm not alone in my "grow as long as it gets or maintain at this length" conundrum! :) The good thing, of course, is that we can always cut it back to TBL or wherever is optimal even if we end up growing to classic and beyond!

Got irritated at my ends over the weekend and trimmed off a solid inch all around. Oops. I seem to get perpetually stuck at this spot - about an inch or two above true tailbone - because I can't help but chop off the ends :brickwall: Classic seems an unattainable goal at this rate...

Hi everybody! I've been lurking this thread pretty much since I joined, and I think it's finally time for me to join in! :waving:

I've been growing my hair for years and years and years, and BCL/TBL (they're only an inch apart on me) was always my ultimate goal. Of course like many here, since finding the LHC I've changed my goal to longer. "As long as I can stand it" is my current goal!

I'm just starting to brush Hip right now, which is just amazing to me! It's been such a long journey thanks to trims that were too big, and Hip is always where I thought really long hair began! :D I have dye damage (and damage related thinning) from about APL down, and I'm planning to trim it out over a few years. So I'll probably be in this thread for a couple of years since I want to keep it about an inch or two above tailbone while I grow out the damage.
Here's a few pics of my current length, comb-straightened and natural:

So I have:
Waist at 28"
Current length (calling it hip!) at 31"
and Tailbone at 35"

thank you for the tip, I'll try that out :)

I will do "work practice" at a company where I nead to keep my hair up to avoid glue and other things, so at least 5 days a week I will have to be better at updos :)

I've been thinking about buying silk band to make paranda of, but It is an economical matter so I dont know if/when I can, but I think it wont cause tangles, hopefully wont dry it out completly (yarn did not work for me) and would probobly look pretty :P

Hi bunzfan, long time no se :)!

If you do a search for "recycled sari yarn," you'll find a bunch of silk yarn. It usually runs around $15 or so on amazon. I haven't bought mine yet, but I've got my eye on some for a paranda. Might be less expensive than a scarf or band.

I have been at waist for SO LONG! Just when I was solidly waist my mum took me and my sisters to the hairdressers to get a 'trim' and I ended up shorter than waist >.<

I'm jut brushing waist again now and it doesn't feel very long as I'm also quite high waisted like some of you guys. I agree about the mid back abyss, it's going to be a while before I hit hip. *sigh*

By the way this picture was before the haircut and I was also looking up so it looks longer.

My account didn't get activated til last month, so I've been creepily lurking and admiring people for almost a year... :couch:

Welcome, LadyMockingjay! It looks to me like you have great shine and a lovely color!

So I have a bit of a worry going on since measuring my hair... hope you guys don't mind if I pontificate and ramble a bit...

I know from measuring my roots that I get roughly 1/2" to 3/4" growth every month. I've only had half an inch trimmed since January... but my measuring tape says that in that time I've only gained 3 inches! Which means that at least an inch (and possibly as much as 3 inches!) has disappeared from my ends!!! shudder:

There are two things I can think of that would cause that:
One, my dye damage is causing breakage. Now, I don't have hardly any splits, and I don't see broken hairs when I comb over the sink, but maybe my hair breaks 'cleanly' and I don't get splits from it.
Option two is that maybe I've shed out the longest hairs. I've had at least four stress-induced sheds in the last year, and that might have added up!

Blagh, I guess I'm just going to be happy that there's less damaged hair than there otherwise would be, and hope that when it's all healthy I won't have disappearing growth.

this here waist length would be no more than bsl to the majority of people. But it is waist length for my stature non the less. :) I don't land mark the length of my hair when wet. But the length of the hair strand in the curl, which is 31" inches. The length of it curly shrinks to 27".. oh well.

I vote for option 2. :) Older, longer hair is more likely to shed out. My growth gain has slowed down tremendously since I was at collarbone, and the shorter bits that used to be face-framing cheekbone-length pieces grow a lot faster than my length. *frustration!* Your hair is beautiful - that color!!

Marbid, what a glorious mass of hair!

In the spring I spent some weeks lightening my hair using a chamomile tea/cinnamon/honey/lemon combo, and i have also been measuring hair growth by my roots. I also noticed that it does not seem to match up with my overall length measurements. This concerns me, and I may or may not be starting to become paranoid about breakage lol.

Does anyone have tricks to keep their hair from breaking? I feel like mine breaks so easily. Sometimes I even hear it make the snapping sound, which makes me cringe. What can i do to reduce breakage?

If you do a search for "recycled sari yarn," you'll find a bunch of silk yarn. It usually runs around $15 or so on amazon. I haven't bought mine yet, but I've got my eye on some for a paranda. Might be less expensive than a scarf or band.

oooo never thought of that, thank you :P

Made a cloverbun (waitingsolong tutorial) yesterday and it was secure al day on my first try :)! I desided to do one today again (went superfast I feel so stupid for not practice enough buns before) and used a lot of hairsalve (nightblooming's) to do a nice treatment on it (it was superdry) and I dont have to se how greasy it looks and can visit my friend withiout thinking to much about it :).

I never liked how my hair looked when It is al up in a bun and its like there is no hair at al, but now I have to (worktraining) so maby I get use to do it without thinking to much about it :P it is nice to have it out of the way and the neck is free without hair over my shoulder, oh my what a newbe I sound like, lazyness is my first enemy ^^

Thank you for the compliment, PraiseCheeses! Your username always make me giggle. :D I really do hope that it's just shedding, I'm okay with that! It makes sense that the shorter hairs will still be showing growth at the roots even if the longest hairs aren't actively growing.

I'd like to echo you; Marbid, that's a Glorious mass of curls!

I appreciate the commiseration, Eve 322. I'm wondering if many growers experience something like this once a certain length is reached? The longest hairs aren't growing even though the rest is? So even though the shorter hairs are showing growth at the roots, the length isn't lengthening? ;) (and I would also like to know if anyone has tips and/or tricks for preventing breakage)

Things I will be doing to avoid and mitigate breakage if that's the culprit:
More buns instead of braids for my protective styles
Satin sleep cap religiously instead of sleep braids
More moisturizing deep treaments

Ba-WOW, Mononoke! :thud: Gorgeous hair!

And congrats, TheVegan6! I, too, am growing things (damage) out... we can comfort each other in times of impatience! ;)

I did some serious S&D over the last few days, and found less than 20 splits (I counted, lol). I looked extra hard at the area where my dye damage starts, and couldn't find ANY splits to support my damage thinning theory... hmmm. I thought my taper was because of breakage, but now I'm thinking it was caused by all of my sheds this year. I guess that's a good thing, because the shedding has been normal for months, so yay! :)

Also, my hair is so much wavier above APL where there's no damage. Grow, Hair! I wanna see what long undamaged hair looks like, NOW! :Petulant foot stamp: :p

Welcome to the thread, rose313! You have such shiny locks! :D
I'm the same height (5'2"), and my hair at waist is 28 inches.

I was curious and did some more measurements, it's the first time I've done it!
So I have:
Waist at 28"
Current length (calling it hip!) at 31"
and Tailbone at 35"

Darn, I shouldn't have done that, lol! I just spent a few minutes calculating how much it's grown since January, and calculating how long it'll take me to reach TBL... (ack, not even getting half an inch a month!)

Thank you! My tailbone is I believe at 34.5 inches. I feel like this is going to take forever.

I too see at least half an inch of roots monthly. And I don't think I've been growing as fast. I do not see broken hairs or splits either. I do have slight dye damage from years ago, but I don't double process, and I do roots only, I don't touch the ends with anything.

My spreadsheet says there's 3 inches to go until I reach TBL and about 2 inches to BCL which according to my averagely growing hair will mean 6 months and 4 months depending on how much I micro trim. If I do not trim that much, then I should be able to get to BCL before my birthday in the beginning of February. :) I would have been there slightly sooner, but I trimmed nearly an inch a few weeks ago. Now I don't intend to trim for a few months.

veryhairyfairy
September 19th, 2013, 07:48 AM
Wow, Ocelan, wouldn't BCL be a nice birthday present? (I got waist this year as a birthday gift!)

I try to figure out where I'll be on my birthday in January, and when I leave for my summer trip in Mid-June(ish). I only take two-three length pics a year, so I plan them for special days! :)
So by my b-day I'll look solid Hip to myself, and by this summer I could be an inch from TBL/brushing BCL! :D

My hair has grown 3" in 5 months. That's the last time I measured at 32", and I'm now at 34.5", and I've had two 1/4" micro trims since then. So, it's growing about average, but that feels slow for me. I wonder if losing weight affects the speed of hair growth? I'm certainly not complaining though. I'm less than 2" from 3 feet of hair and TBL. Part of micro-trimming is that you reach your goal slower, but with healthier hair.

Hello all, I have juuuust hit this milestone (just barely, but still :p) though considering I am in dire need of a S&D and maybe even an actual trim *GASP* I wonder if I won't have to retrace my steps back to the BSL-Waist thread... :/ and that makes me a sad panda.

See my hair does reach waist, but it's only some of it at the middle (my hair "hem" is somewhere between U and V shaped in part due to an old layered salon haircut, my "bangs" have just reached shoulder length!) and maybe because it's getting cold it's been extra dry lately, especially at the ends since I am also still growing out a good 5 inches of highlights which I have kept because they look amazing with henna. And I want the length damnit!
My plan was to eventually, slowly cut it off gradually once I reached hip length or so, to even it out as well since it could use some of that too. Don't know if it will survive that long though, it's dry and tangles so bad sometimes! I have been using extra coconut oil lately but it still doesn't feel too good to me. I also have so many baby hairs and flyaways, especially on my temples, which I assume is from a couple of years or flat-ironing my hair about 2 or 3 times a week. D: I used to be terrible I know! But at least it's growing back lovely. I hope...

Lately I've also tried sleeping with my hair in a sockbun (the kind that rolls all of your hair into the bun a la Loepsie) on top of my head and that seems to make all of it a lot softer, (and shinier!) so I guess that's my new sleep look even though I look ridiculous in it, I live in a dorm and I have to share a bedroom, my roommate must think I'm so weird sometimes lol. But it's the most protective sleep hairstyle I can think of.

So yeah, HI ALL!!! :)

Vrindi, I also wonder if weight loss affects growth? I would think that it does, because your body is using more energy than it's taking in, so there's less energy for hair growth... right? I need to eat more... :yumm:
(and WOW! Three feet of hair is so cool! You'll be there in no time!)

Welcome, Ruzovy! :) I don't see why you can't hop in here and sit a spell even if the bulk of your hair is less than waist... and even if you trim to a bit above, the more the merrier! Ahhhh, I am also in the "planning to trim out damage slowly once I reach a certain milestone" boat, I feel ya. (and thanks to your post I have that unintelligible song stuck in my head! I believe it took me a bit over a year to grow from waist to tailbone.

As a disclaimer, though, I really had no idea how to take care of my hair until this year. There was a lot of breakage and taper. I trimmed it back to waist to "start over" after discovering LHC so I'll see how it goes this time. My eventual goal is classic, but I'm sure I'll have to be much more patient for that.

VJG, welcome to the thread! In June I cut from hip to waist for the same reason, now I'm back to hip and being more careful (it was the last of bleach damage). The plan is to be patient and careful until classic length. Maintain there for a while - as long as it takes to grow my layers into a blunt cut to thicken my hemline, and get rid of any more damaged hair before attempting to grow any longer.

A bit of a stretch... LOL!

I just want to vent. Since cutting 5 inches off my hair on July 16 to get rid of my layers, I haven't notice a bit of growth. In fact my curl revived and actually shrunk a bit. I'm not sure I can even be classified as waist any more. :(

Vent all you want, but your hair is GORGEOUS! And that certainly looks like waist to me.

Chiming in, kitschy, with another compliment: I LOVE YOUR HAIR! :thudpile: Don't leave us! ;)
(and I've always thought that curlies should go by the measurement of their stretched hair, it's more accurate in terms of required care and hair age.)

Digging this thread out from the zombie pile.... :p

kitschy, your beautiful curls might not look waist, but you have hair that, root to tip, is hip-length. It just chooses to express itself by spiraling around and hide the true length. :) No matter the length, you have extraordinary hair, both the curl and color. It must be really frustrating to not see the visual-length-gain in a direct relationship to hair growth!

Hi Andeee! :waving: Welcome to the forum and the thread - and I see you are a fellow violinist! :cheese: :beerchug:

On a hair related note: I can't stop pulling my hair down behind me to see if it will touch the waist-band of my hip huggers! I've started a 'wear my hair up for a non-specific amount of time' challenge to make myself stop!

Thanks you guys. I appreciate your encouragement.

I knew immediately I had been too aggressive with my cut and regretted it. I've been trimming off layers since I joined LHC - just going slowly, and then a couple of months ago, I got a bug to be done with it once for all and did the big cut. I've been trying to convince myself that it would grow back in no time, but I'm afraid it's just going to take longer than I imagined. Oh, I know it will grow.....patience, damn it!

Hmmm. I had to re-examine the length of my hair in terms of measurement.

The first time I measured it I used an arts and craft ruler. The plastic lil rulers for kid school. I got a fairly accurate measurement of 27" for such a method. This time I used sweing measuring tape. The flexi one. This is as accurate as I can get (since I was not the one who measured me). I measured in at 29 inches while curly. I don't know how long when whet since the measuring I did on my wet hair was done with an arts and crafts ruler also. But I guess its also 2 inches short of the true length. Oh well. It's still pretty good for a ruler measurement anyhow. :)

I've been getting overly obsessed with growth since becoming active on this site, so I decided to start wearing my hair in buns constantly... It's pretty different!
My go-to comfort style has been a single english braid for the last like, three years... it's weird to not have that tassel to constantly comb through with my fingers. And this is all made funny to me by the fact that 2-3 months ago I decided to start wearing my hair down more to get used to it!

Howdy! :D
I'm also having my annual autumn shed. I don't really do anything to try and stop/slow it... after this last year of extreme stress shedding, it's a lot easier to come to peace with little sheds lol!

I've been having super great ends lately, and I've changed so many things recently I don't know if it's just one thing, a combination of a few, or all four of them!
The four recent factors at play: Sleep cap every night over an unsecured bun, leaving in a small palm-full of my regular conditioner, squeezing about 5 drops of oil (jojoba, currently) into my sopping wet ends before t-shirt turban-ing, and dry CO washing.

My version of a dry conditioner-only wash is basically:
Mix conditioner of choice half and half with water (Suave Everlasting Sunshine is my favorite), use watery mix to completely saturate dry hair in the shower -emphasis on the roots, obviously-, leave for duration of shower and rinse. Voila!

Have you clarified lately? I get dryness when I go more than a month without shampooing off the build up from my hard well water and coconut oil. I always have amazing hair if I shampoo all the way to the ends 2 times in a row and follow with an SMT or deep conditioning treatment.

Wishing you luck! :flower:

I want in on this thread, I have been wanting to grow out to tailbone since I realized I'm at waist. Didn't even know how long my hair really was until I started frequenting hair forums, right now I'm a little past waist I believe. Now I've just been trying to keep my ends moisturized because that seems to be my hair's weakness, I also use the s&d method for splits and did a dusting recently to get anything that couldn't be saved. I'm hoping to be at tailbone at least in a year but it really depends on my ends I guess.

Have you tried using tea rinses? I heard that it can help with shedding, I don't have a real big shedding prob (I think what falls out my head is pretty normal) but I started using tea rinses anyway. I don't think I've been using long enough to determine if it's a miracle for my hair though, only a couple of rinses under my belt, but it might be something to look into.

I started stretching my washes and using a tiny bit of oil so my hair stays soft on my second and third days. So far I've been able to go about two and a half days without washing on average, compared to either daily or every day and a half. If I can go until tomorrow morning I will have gone three whole days! I think 3 days will be good for me, I get cranky when my hair is too greasy and I can't use any products besides oil when stretching washes or my hair gets very angry at me.

My hands are a little below waist in my avatar, maybe about an inch? So I'm guessing I'm right at waist now, does that seem right?

Lol, I also learned this about myself when I first found LHC! The funny thing is, I'd been 'growing my hair' for going on 5 years when I found this site, and suddenly I became a LOT less patient about it! Just goes to show what 'watching the pot' will do!

Welcome to the thread, you have a beautiful color and just plain gorgeous hair in your profile! :)

Hmm, I think I can join in here too. :)

I'm kind of somewhere in between waist and tailbone depending on how curly my hair feels like being for the day. Feels like I've been there for way too long though, so really looking forward to hitting tailbone at some point soon.

:blushing: Thanks everyone.

@ bunzfan: Thank you! It's actually quite fine, just good at creating volume and hiding that fact in pictures (and then tangling like crazy to make up for that little deception) . I'm actually pretty happy to see the hemline finally thickening up though.

I love how smooth and shiny your waves are by the way. :)

WOOOOOOO! :beerchug:

took a length shot (my first!) some days ago. Still a loooong way to go :(

(IMG Snip)

Looks really shiny and like it's creeping up on BCL from what I can tell!

I love when this thread gets pictures! I wish I took more length shots, but my next one isn't til January. (former obsessive checker, here, had to tame that beast)

I've got a 1/2" trim scheduled for today because the moon is waxing in Scorpio (good for growth). This is going to be my first more-than-microtrim in over a year, I'm excited for that 'fresh ends' feel!

I posted in here yesterday that my hair has reached tbl while wet! Today I realized that I'm due for my semi-annual length shot, so here it is:

For the first time in my life, my hair is legitimately touching my waist while dry!!! I belong in this thread now! :cheese: Super duper excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (did I mention that I'm excited?)
I posted this on October 11, 2011, wow! I don't consider myself tailbone yet, but it's close!

P.S. It's my 2.5 year LHC anniversary! :D
(Yes it says I joined in January, but I didn't really do anything until March!)

I'm not graduating from this thread yet, I'm waiting for solid Tailbone. :)

Wow kme81, that's some seriously gorgeous hair you've got there. Most of the time I'm drooling over the wavies and curlies here, but your picture made me happy seeing how beautiful straight hair can be. Yours is also very close to my goal length so there's confirmation for me, that length looks great! :)
