Edit: the interview is over now, and I posted an update on page three with pics of my hair and makeup on that day. :)

I have a job interview next week, and I need some help with my hair. I used to flat iron on the time, and I have taken to plopping with FSG to avoid the damage. I don't really want to resort to straightening, but I guess I could since it will only be one day.

Please just ignore my face in these pictures, I have no makeup on and I look terrible. lol

The interview is for a job in the Financial Development (Fundraising) department of a college. I need to look older/more experienced. I am 21, but I get a lot of comments that I look younger than that, especially now that I am growing my hair out. I used to have a pixie cut (about 1" long, spiked up with gel) in high school, and people always guessed that I was over 25. When I graduated, I started growing my hair out, and now people think I'm under 18. Frustrating. So I thought that maybe I should wear my hair up to mimic the short look.

I don't have a picture of my hair straightened, but it usually looks pretty good. It looks quite a bit longer when it's straightened. But it tends to get a little wavy pretty quickly.

Here is my hair as I normally wear it:

Here is the style I am thinking of doing (a gibson tuck?) from the back:
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/8871/photo0427.jpg (http://img294.imageshack.us/i/photo0427.jpg/)

From the side with bangs:

From the front with bangs:
http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/9339/photo0429l.jpg (http://img685.imageshack.us/i/photo0429l.jpg/)

And from the front with bangs pinned back (you can't see it in this pic, but unfortunately the bobby pin is highly visible on the top of my head, and I don't know what to do about it):
http://img830.imageshack.us/img830/7166/100827133331.jpg (http://img830.imageshack.us/i/100827133331.jpg/)

I hate my bangs right now. I have to straighten them or they do weird things, and even then they don't look good. I'm thinking of growing them out into side swept bangs, or just growing them out altogether. I have grown them out before, and I always end up cutting them back in because I feel like I need something around my face. Decisions, decisions.

What do y'all think of straightening my hair and wearing it down vs. wearing my hair down like normal vs. in this updo vs. in another updo (please explain)? What should I do with my bangs? I can't french braid my own hair very well, and my hair tends to slip out of buns. I can do a sock bun, but I would have to straighten my hair first, otherwise it looks crappy and bumpy.

I would hire you based on your no bangs updo pic, it's not about your bangs being bad or anything (they are great, I love bangs and always wanted to have ones but my hair is curly), it's just that open face makes you a naive open person ppl would like to boss around.

I'm going to vote for the gibson tuck, no bangs. I think it opens your face up more, which is always good in an interview :)

Has any one every told you that you look like Felicia Day (http://www.google.com/images?oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&q=Felicia+day&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=univ&ei=Lwt4TKKhDoepnQfOmNCdCw&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CDcQsAQwAA&biw=1275&bih=626)? Because I think you do :)

I like the Gibson tuck with bangs, but perhaps swoop them to the side a bit more.

No bangs would be best in my opinion. In the picture of you with bangs it looks as if you are hiding behind your hair. No fault of yours, I know, it is just the way that length of bangs is. (Been there, done that, got the T-shirt!)

You don't really need anything around your face - it has a very pretty shape. And while it may be nice and familiar, and work to accentuate your looks, as I said, your face does not need it.

If the bobby pin keeping your bangs up is vexing you, why don't you go for a decorated one, and make a fashion statement out of a necessity?

I'm liking both looks, but have no opinion on which is more professional. I know I'd definitely wear my hair up for an interview though.

Thanks for your vote Nightshade! I have not been told that before, but thank you! :)

I really like the look of side swept bangs on me, but at the moment they are just long enough to be in my eyes, but not long enough to sweep to the side... if I move them to the side, they stick out at an odd angle.

Thanks Alvrodul! Re: hiding behind my bangs. Yes, that it what I was thinking too. They are at such a bad length right now, they are covering my eyes. I had them trimmed a few months ago, and the hairdresser did something weird and I was never able to get them to behave after that, so I haven't cut them since.

Now that I think about it, obviously when my hair was super short, I didn't have anything around my face and I liked it just fine. I guess having more hair has thrown me off... I know I don't like it when the grown out bangs just come down on either side of my face, but I don't mind it when the bangs are pulled back (which gives a similar look from the front as when it was short), so I guess I'll just do that as they are growing out.

I will look for a more decorative bobby pin. Thanks! :)

So does the natural texture look ok in the gibson tuck or would it look better straightened? I will have to use hairspray to keep everything in place, as I have some chin length layers that will barely stay in the tuck.

So does the natural texture look ok in the gibson tuck or would it look better straightened? Natural look, definitely. I am absolutely flabbergasted at how women today have been brainwashed into thinking that their hair looks better straightened. Back in yee olden days when I was your age (ie, the '80s), we spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars to get exactly the waves you have in your hair. [sigh]

I vote Gibson tuck with bangs swept to the side.

I really like it!

The Gibson tuck, without bangs. It really shows of the beauty of your face.

I like the Gibson tuck, but I'm undecided about the bangs... If I had to pick, I would say pin them back. Let us know what you decide! :)

Also, you don't look like you need makeup IMO.

Thanks Peter, that's sweet. :)

I think I will go with the Gibson Tuck, and the bangs pinned back. I've been experimenting with a French Twist, but I can't get it to work very well, and I know the Gibson Tuck will hold so I'll go with that. I also had a thought that if I pinned the bangs back in a "bump" it would help hide the bobby pin. I'll just have to use lots of hairspray to hold it in place!

Thanks so much for your votes and encouragement everyone! I am very excited about this interview. :D

Another vote for bangs either pinned back or off to the side. It looks lovely with or without bangs, but the bangs "feel" more casual to me.

I'm voting for the tuck w/ the bangs pinned back. Although personally I think you should separate your bangs into two sections to pin back, instead of just one section. You could use the X bobby pin configuration above each temple to keep them swept back while avoiding the "pouf" look (unless that's what you're going for). ;)

I vote for the Gibson tuck and no bangs. Your face, and therefore expressions and emotions, are more accessible. You can communicate better and I think this look makes you appear open and professional.

Good luck! Given fianace can be stuffy, I'd suggest straighten your hair for the interview. I love the waves and wurls, but this can be a tough area. Once you have the job, work the waves!

I like the gibson tuck! It looks good with your hair's texture. You could add a fancy clip that matches your outfit to add even more professionalism to your look. Best of luck on your interview!

I would go with the no bangs style, or I would cut the bangs shorter. just my opinion.

Gibson tuck with no bangs, it makes your face look so pretty and open and to me it looks more professional. Good luck with your interview.

Iīm with the natural texture Gibson and bangs pinned back. It makes you look together aswell as more open and trustworthy. I would also like to say that the shape of your eyes is amazing and if you want to use make-up I would suggest for an interview to accentuating them with subtle and natural coloured eyeshadows rather than liner. However, I agree you donīt need make-up at all.

I vote the tuck with no bangs. I agree that you should try growing to some kind of longer bangs. :) It would look so cute on you!
