View Full Version : The Chic HairDo List

Whenever I've thought of 'chic' I've always thought of short hair; an angled bob or a sharp pixie cut. Short looks are the kinds of hair cuts that come to mind when I think of 'looking chic'. Long hair tends to make me think of more romantic looks.

But I saw Breakfast at Tiffany's for the first time the other day; its hard to argue that Audrey Hepburn is not ICONIC CHIC in that movie, and she was in updo's for the whole thing. Like this:

So it got me thinking about chic looks for us long hairs, and I wanted to start a list.

So I'm asking everyone to add to this list your favorite hair do (up, down, or whatever) that you like to wear when you want to feel super fashionable for a big night in the city, and artsy party, or whatever :)

I'm adding my favorite to get us started. I like to wear a low sock bun, to one side, with my bangs side swept. I always feel good in this :) (sorry for the creepy distortion)

That is very chic and elegant! I can totally see Audrey Hepburn wearing that. :)

Ooh lovely!

I like French twists, and flipped cinnamon buns. I think it's the volume at the crown and the sleekness that makes them look chic :)

Got to work the Gibson Tuck, classic and able to be current with toys at the same time.

I am a massive fan of the lazy wrap bun. I think it looks so simple and classy.

So much of a nice updo rests on what is happening at the front of you head, a nice side-swept fringe or a bit of volume at the crown makes all the difference.

I think a sleek ponytail or bun, anything that takes hair away from the face and shows off the angles of the face (essentially what the pixie and bob do) seems chic to me.

I like the 1940s-style pin-up. It's not sleek, but I think it looks elegant.

cinnabuns and braided buns...though am still seeking a stylish, easy way to hold up braided buns:confused:, forks fall out for me. I'd love to master chignons but don't think it's gonna happen as I've been working on em for years now.

I've gotten lots of compliments on these...

Pin Roll Flower Bun (http://rapunzelsresource.wordpress.com/2010/09/03/my-first-video-tutorial/)- I take more/smaller sections of my hair to accommodate my thickness, especially since I only have normal-sized bobby pins.

Tucked French Braid

FrannyG's Summer Updo (http://frannyslonghair.blogspot.com/2010/05/frannys-easy-summer-updo.html) - When my hair was longer, this wasn't exactly what I'd call an updo, but I've gotten lots of compliments on it, so I thought I'd post it.

Victorian Updo - This isn't exactly what I'd call 'chic,' but, again, I've gotten lots of compliments on it, so I'll post it here, too.

The rope braid bun :) Low and off centered with a twist or higher and in the center depending on occasion.

Your hair looks very nice. I wear my hair in a somewhat similar way with my fringe swept to the side and a french plait crossing the back of my head and ending in a little braided bun (it's not very long yet). I just wish people would stop swirling out their faces, it gives me the creeps :/ What happened to the good old black square :p

French twist with spirals hanging down a little from the top of the twist. I wear this on occasion with a few face framing spirals as well. It looks great and only takes me about 2 to 3 minutes to do. :)

Usually a tucked French or (preferably) Dutch braid. My biggest problem is that I can never seem to get the hang of the whole side-swept bangs idea. My bangs just don't cooperate without hair spray, which is bad and I don't have any more, anyway.

So, instead, I end up with the whole bald look, which goes just great with the double chin!

Oh, well. I never was one to do "chic," anyway. This is more like me:

And I forget about this. It is a variation of one that Lilith Moon did, but my hair was not as long as her extensions, so instead of a long bow on the bottom, I got... Well, whatever you want to call it.

And I did manage to do the side-swept bangs that day, with help from a curling iron (never owned a flat iron) and hair spray. Yes, that was just before I discovered LHC.

I wear a high, slicked back ponytail when I want to feel put together and chic.
