First off, gotta apologize because this post might get lengthy :p Been lurking here for a couple years, but my hair concerns have finally gotten to the point that I need some advice. (There's an ad for "younger fuller hair" above this that's really depressing me ;))
So summary: I have medium-fine hair, and it's very thin (about 3/4 of an inch in diameter, I suppose it would be if I added my shorter layers in). For the past few years, I seriously deprived my hair nutritionally/hydrationally and lost a lot of weight. And I mean serious depriving, but my hair shedding/thickness always stayed relatively the same. I used blow dryers and straightening irons every day, and my hair did absolutely fine. Better than fine, really
Then a few months ago, my hair dresser commented that she thought I was losing more hair than normal. No one else that I knew was noticing it and neither had I, but it would scare any of us. :p So I started taking omega-3 pills and a multivitamin (very low dosage. I'm planning to change what supplements I'm taking), turned into a health-food-nut, and started drinking around 50 oz of water a day. I even went off all the hair torture devices! The nails started getting better just a few days ago ;)
The problem is, even after all this, it seems like things have gotten worse. My scalp was dry, itchy, and flaking a lot, so I tried EVOO on my scalp and hair. Not only did it make my shedding worse, but it took me 6 days to get the oil out (never trying THAT again =(). Then I decided to switch off my old 'poo (SLS and SLES) for JASON's aloe 'poo. Before, my hair had been drying out quite a bit and getting wavy-curly, which wasn't such a bad thing (my hair is naturally very oily). Now my hair is heading back to oily and limp, though my scalp is still dry and itchy (not quite as flaky, but still bad).
I went to two doctors (regular and derm) and got a blood test from one and a "go get a dandruff shampoo" from the derm. Haven't gotten the blood test results back (praying for something to be wrong, sadly), but I don't really want to go out and get the shampoo the derm recommended. So if anyone here has some vitamin supplement advice, hair/scalp treatment advice, or anything else that might help, I would really appreciate it before I go out and start buying new things.
