Not a dumb question at all! I'm horrible at it so I'm definatly going to hang around this thread too to see what the seasoned pros say.

Well, Torrin Paige (http://www.youtube.com/user/torrinpaige?blend=2&ob=1) has a wonderful YouTube channel that gives instructions for a variety of braids. She explains how to do hairstyles really well and I highly recommend you check that site out, especially if you're a beginner because a lot of the styles she teaches you how to do aren't very intimidating.

If you don't know how to do a basic three-strand braid (English braid), you could gather your hair into a ponytail first and then practice dividing your hair into three equal sections. You can find instructions for a three-strand braid here (http://www.dreamweaverbraiding.com/braids/basic3.htm).

If you are afraid to practice on your hair at first, you can buy some fake hair and make braids in that before you move on to your own hair. If you have younger siblings or cousins that have Barbies or My Little Ponies, you can practice braiding their hair, too.

Braiding takes a bit of practice, but you'll eventually get it. :)

I hope that helps! :flower:

ETA: I also highly recommend you read Ursula's Braid 911 (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=59). It gives some great tips on how to keep your braids looking nice and neat. My braids turned out much neater after reading that article.

I agree, check out Torrin Paige, she is good and haunt Youtube, there are great videos on self braiding. I learned how to from a book, A Book of Hairstyles, it's by the Klutz company and it really helped me, also I braid my own hair with my eyes closed. It's so weird but if I do it with my eyes open then my braid looks kind of sloppy:rolleyes:, give it a try:).
