Hey!
Just a few month ago I started my journey to longer hair. My hair is still short but it is growing...now it is between my chin and shoulders..and this is not a fun stage for me.

For a while now I been thinking about getting bangs. It has grown so much that I can now tuck it behind my ears...
But I am not sure at all if I like it like this, or if I should cut and shape my bangs. And if I cut my bangs - what shape should I get....:)???

So I was thinking - if you have bangs and would like to share - please add a photo of your bangs/hair on this thread. Then everyone like me can get som great inspiration :D!!!! I would LOVE to get some different ideas....:)

Thank you sooooooooooooo much!
I will also try to dig up old pictures of me - with and without bangs! Not sure what looks best on me.

Thank you for your time!!!!!:)

I've been struggling with the same question. Bangs or no bangs. Mine are currently a little longer than chin length. But I keep wondering if I should cut them back to eyebrow length and whether or not I'll be happy with it.

For now I'm observing the 2 week rule and thinking about it. :)

Good luck w/your decision!

I have had bangs in the past, & I am thinking about it again. Like Islandgrrl, I am using the 2 week rule. It has been several years since I last had bangs.;)

Dar your bangs look great!

I've been wrestling with this myself for several months. Up until 4 years ago I always had bangs, but up until finding LHC I was never able to get my hair past bsl. Now my 'bangs' are at bsl and being my shortest layer kind of drives me batty. I think it's because my hair is thick, the hair will not stay behind me, it's still constantly falling forward and getting right in my face. My husband met me when my hair was to my neck and my bangs were to my cheek bones, so he's never actually seen me with bangs. At 37 I've had bangs for 33 years of my life. I do miss them in a way, but in a way I'm happy I don't have them.

Hubby keeps saying I'll regret it if I cut bangs in. I don't know if I will or not. So we compromised, my fist goal is tail bone length hair, my second goal is no layers at tail bone. At that point I want to see what my thickness does to my 'bangs' if it's not bothersome I'll probably keep my bangs long, but at that length if it's still bothersome you can pretty much forget me keeping my bangs long.

I always have bangs. Just a few weeks ago, I had short layers cut in, and I lurve them!!! They are long enough that I can still pull them back in an updo without any falling out. Without the bangs, I always feel that my face looks exactly like this smiley face - :).

I have bangs/fringe.

I go through stages of trying to grow them out, add more, grow out part, blah blah. It is a horrible cycle. I really think I look better with them. DH has no opinion (the putz) and any one I ask, it is about 50/50. I have a very thin fringe, like 3 mm along my hair line. I had made them so it was a nice straight line across the front but decided they were to thick and required to much styling. I JUST started growing out the extra and they are about an inch longer now than the part I am keeping.

This is what I did a few months ago

This is a before and well, kinda what it looks like now

Me no bangs EEEK!

Well, it isn't that bad, just makes me self conscience about my face.

Keeping them thin and/or longer give you some added options of styling them out of the way.

Im thinking of having some fringe maybe some type of bangs when I go in to my 1 year LHC aniversary salon visit.Thats in September so I have plenty of time to think about it.My old bangs are reaching chin length. One thing Ive noticed with my bangs is that they seem to grow slower and thinner than the rest of my hair, which is why its a big decision for me.

I had the exact length you're referring to with bangs and it was really cute. I had it that way for years.

If you get sick of the bangs, you can grow them out a little and do sideswept bangs like this:

Interesting topic! I had non-stop bangs from the age of 13 to 33, through long, straight styles as well as short permed poodle styles. I never dared try to be without them until I was mid 30s, but I didn't look back. Now that I'm over 40 and have a furrow in my forehead, I am considering hiding it with bangs. Last night, however, inspite of being too busy to even sleep or finish my work, I managed to spend 3 hours ransacking my storage closet in search of an old box of photos with inciminating hairstyles. I was reminded of how my face looks with dark (unbleached) bangs (very sinister), with half-bleached bangs, and freshly bleached bangs. I have decided for now that my very flat, fine hair needs all the volume it can get, and so frown marks or not, I'm gonna stay bangless for now!! With bangs, when I put my hair up, it's a lot less severe than with no bangs, but that's about the only pro I can see for myself right now for having them cut back in again.

So great to know I am not alone in this...bangs...or no bangs question....lol...I just love all the pictures. And I think everyone who posted with bangs looks great! I like it on everyone else...but my face is very round...so I am not sure...aaahhhh...
I am happy my problems are not bigger than this for the moment....lol....

Here is 2 of me...the first one is with bangs...but more pulled to the side. My hair is alot shorter in the first picture. The second picture is just a few weeks ago. My bangs are alot longer and my sunglasses are pulling it all back. What you think:)???? The first picture has alot better lighting...don´t let that fool you :D!!!!lol....

You suit both!!!!!!! now thats what people say to me and its more confusing lol but really you do, thing is my hair being fine i wonder that if i grow my fringe out and have it in with the rest of my hair thats gonna add some thickness to it so i am going to try and grow them out but what to do with it is the question i am 36 and feel too old to wear a little slide like a kid lol or a hairband but maybe thats just me being silly, it would prob look ok, but you look great with or without bangs so whatever your decision it will suit you.

I love bangs too, have always had them. I used to get them cut straight across but last time I had them cut to the side at an angle. I have a pic of them in my album. As my hair gets longer, I might wear them longer too.

Thank´s Lady G! :)...I do know the feeling of having to put my bangs up. Even if it is now just below my nose they fall forward and I have to put them up with a clip. TÍ got a few new once and also tiny claw clips....does look ok, and there are some really nice clips out there....

Florida mom - love your bangs...if I get bangs I will get someting similar.

Just so hard to decide. But I will go for the 2 weeks as many suggested before I decide.

Paper - I never found a picture of your bangs..maybe I looked in the wrong album..?

I guess if I will get bangs I need a good hairdresser to cut it. I tried cutting bangs before but ended up looking like a 2 year old used the sissors...lol...

Big hug to you all

Hi, this is my fringe:

I was inspired by Kate Moss and her long, shaggy fringe -- neither too thin nor too thick, but falls (charmingly) over the eyebrows! I like it. :)

I was hesitant to go for it because I think fringe that is too short or too thick is not very flattering, but I'm glad I did. It's also very easy to clip back with a bobby pin on either side, so... quite unobtrusive.

I am a poor student and thus cut my fringe myself, one night, very daringly after receiving my best friend's approval on the matter -- there I was with the scissors while she coached me over skype  For someone who has had long hair for a long time and thus tends to think of hair in terms of years, it was nice to realise that even if I didn't like the fringe it would grow out in a few weeks. :inlove:

My hair is about mid-thigh and while I generally prefer the look of fringe-less super-long hair, I wear my hair up so much that I felt it was a good investment in terms of making me more comfortable with updos.

hope that helps.

I think I look better in bangs but am trying to grow mine out. I LOVE them being out of my face but not sure I'll grow them any longer than chin length. To me that seems to be the best of both worlds, you can clip them back or use them to soften.

I keep cutting some in and growing them out again and again. They are at my chin right now and I'm already contemplating cutting them back to my eyebrows.

I hated having full bangs...I tried several times during my teens to grow them out, and about chin would get sick of it and cut them again. When I was 20, I finally grew them out all the way.
Then barely 23, I cut them to chin with some angling. Then they grew out again.
I wanted side-swpets bangs forever, but never wanted anything *too* short, I finally caved and got some on the 17th.
Love, love, love my side-swept bangs! I have a huge forehead, and I think siders look better than full-WAY better. :} I look older, too, which is good since I am 24 and look 18 (on a good day!).
Pics of all three stages in my profile.

Anyone know of any good tutorials on cutting your own bangs?

I like this one:

http://www.wikihow.com/Cut-Your-Own-Bangs

I find the twisting and snipping gives a lovely curved edge to the bangs (rather than blunt) that blends in with the longer hair. It also avoids that 'just cut' look.

This one is also very good with tips on choosing a style:

I think about bangs again, every once in a while. The ones I admire on the boards here - well, a lot of them have a different hair type than I do.

I grew mine out a loooong time ago; do I want to cut them again? The entire front section of my hair has tapered (untrimmed) ends. Hard to give up.

I love my bangs. I have a high forehead, and I think I look better with bangs and some face framing layers. I might go in this weekend for a bang trim because it's been a couple months. I'm trying to stay away from the hairdresser to avoid a crack in my resolve to keep growing my length. I really REALLY want long hair, but I feel like an addict going through haircut withdrawal! Going to the salon is like a recovering alcoholic going to a bar!

I spent years growing mine out and it was a very painful process for me. I like the way I looked in bangs, I had a bob and very deep cut thick bangs. My dh said I was hiding my face behind my hair and didn't like the way it just hung on either side of my face. (like all one length hanging down on either side of my face is much different.) I would like to try bangs again, but it took WAY to long to grow them out - so it's not a go for me at this time. You might want to read some of posts where people are asking for advice on growing out bangs before you get them cut.
But... it's your hair - do what will make you happy :)

My hair is currently layered in such a way that the back is past shoulder, but the entire crown is quite short, falling into heavy bangs and giving a nicely rounded shape to my pointy little head.

Following a recent bout of "Arrrgghhh! I have no hair!!!", I decided to grow out all my layers in order to give myself a shot at a ii (!) thickness, but I just can't quite give up the bangs. I've done without them before and looked fine, but right now I feel like I have way too much forehead, LOL!

What I am doing to maintain them is to make a part right across the front of my head - there is a little indentation in the hairline at each temple, and I go straight from one side to the other at that point. Then I comb the hair to be trimmed forward into a tiny handheld pony and just snip the ends off. This way my bangs are shortest in the center front and a little longer on the sides so they can blend into the longer hair. This cut also makes my bangs feather slightly at the edge, so they look softer than a perfectly even blunt cut would.

So there's my :twocents: :flower:

Saoirse, I love your bangs!
And those of everyone else I've seen here, actually.

Just wondering, because your hairtype is similar to mine in thickness and texture (although yours is much longer, of course) if you've noticed a marked difference in the thickness of your braids etc?

The kind of bangs I'm thinking about getting are very similar to yours, but I do worry about the loss of diameter in my braids....

And yes, I am seriously considering getting bangs again.
I used to have them as a child, very heavy ones, then didn't (mostly) when I got short hair, and now that I've let it grow again, I'm bangless - but I find myself yearning for them again.

I like my face without bangs as well, but I think it looks a bit stronger with them; and, as I get older, my eyebrows seem to get thinner and thinner, and I think bangs would give my face a bit more 'structure' again.
It's not about hiding my high forehead, I rather like my high forehead...

What I'm worried about it loss of thickness, greasy bangs when stretching out my hair washing, and trouble wearing hats....

So I'm still trying to make up my mind, and observing the 2-week rule.
Having said that, I did make an appointment at the hairdresser's for the 10th of June; that is over two weeks away from when I seriously started craving them again, and it's always hard to find my favourite hairdresser available.

When I go (IF I go, I might still cancel), I'll have them trim a centimeter off the ends as well, it's time for my six-monthly trim anyway.

In the mean time, I'm looking at all kind of pictures online, and old photographs of myself.

I did cut (trim) my bangs and I think I like it. I will try to get a picture soon. I also had to cut just a tiny bit on my top layer. I do want to grow out my layers, but the ends were so damaged - it does look better now and my curls really liked the tiny trim :D!!!! Will get a pic soon.....

here is my bangs growing out a bit when i didnt trim them when i joined.. as you can see after puberty my bangs sort of flipped to the side.. it was worse when they were short.. ahh henna.. yes i know im wearing too much makeup.. my eyebrows werent really that dark and drawn on.. thats a photoshop effect i used to make the face easier to animate into a gif

Awesome! :) Aren't bangs fun? I've been using the cold setting on my otherwise neglected blow-dryer to make them soft and fluffy, but they wave nicely if I let them air dry.

I while back I had some semi-bangs cut into my hair, just to see how I liked it. And I did like it, but my hair was only shoulder length then, and I don't know whether I should re-cut something with what's grown out (and is currently driving me nuts) and a bit of extra hair, or whether I should just go with the no-bangs look.

The whole business is complicated by the fact that my hair is firmly curly, and I'm just not crazy about the "few sprigs" look around the face for "bangs" on me. I'd want a more wavy, sideswept blend. Like what Gemma and SugarBabyDoll are sporting on this thread. Now, this might be possible, as when my hair is shorter it tends to have more difficulty forming full spirals and looks kind of 2B/2C, but I'm kind of afraid to take the plunge and find out.

Also, I'm not sure about how that would look--spiral curls and 2B bangs? It could be a little odd-looking.

Thank you Saoirse!

I did get bangs cut last week (should really post on my blog about it, was a great experience - later today, hopefully!), and I LOVE them.

They're eyebrow-length, full but not extremely thick and like you said, the difference in the rest of my hair is not really noticeable (although I haven't measured the circumference yet).

They're not completely straight across; she left them a tiny bit longer at the edges and they're a little bit feathered, as it were.

My hair has a lot more body and character than the last time I had bangs!
