So after taking the plunge and giving myself bangs, I am left with about 15" of hair in a pony tail that I cant bear to part with!

I am interested in making a braided headband to achieve this look:

I am assuming once I seal the ends of the braid I can glue it to a plastic headband and voilą!

Does anyone have advice for how I might seal the hair? Im thinking of giving it a run through the sewing machine against a piece of lace, but the thought of glue has also crossed my mind.

Any tips LHC'ers? I think I'm on to something here!

Hmmm.. I have one of those at home, but I bough it, and it is just glued, but it doesn't hold that good. Maybe glue and seewing machine could work? Cool idea, btw! :cheese:

EDIT: This is how mine looks, just that mine is dark brown.

I would think it needs a coating like a shelac or sealer for wood.

I was also thinking this, maybe polyester resin?

I understand that you want to reuse the hair, but you can actually get those headbands for decent prices at accessories shops or on Ebay, so that might be a less messy option than making one. If you must make one, the advice here sounds good.

Someone linked to these shrink tubes (http://www.manedepot.com/non-adhesive-unlined-shrinkies.html) the other day. They might work, though you'd have to ask one of our stylist members whether you need any special tools to make them work, or if heat from a hairdryer is sufficient.

I think that the only thing that would hold the cut "ends" together will be glue (hot glue perhaps), Sewing it to lace won't work, the hairs will pull out. This reminds me of an Etsy shop that sells hairbands and faux cinnabons affixed to headbands created using fake hair wefts. I can't remember the name of the shop off the top of my head, but the proprietor of the shop is a member here. Perhaps she can chime in with advice since she makes such pretties herself?
