View Full Version : I did it! My first 5-Strand Braid(s)!

So it only took me like 2 hours... one hour after I gave up trying to make it a five-strand French/Dutch braid and went with two five-strand pigtails!

I had to do them wet since my hair dry kept having a mind of its own.

Pay no attention to my Spongebob Pjs... :o

Now, once my arms recover, and in a few days, I might try for one big one and maybe a French one.

That's awesome! I've been trying that one for ages and my fingers just refuse to do it. I end up giving up after awhile lol. So glad you figured it out, it looks great.

That looks fab. I would love to see what a french 5 strand braid would look like! I would need a couple more arms to even attempt that!

WOW!

I did one (for the first time) to sleep in (it didnt make my hair kink too much when I took it out either so yay) last night but because I am BSL and growing out layers mine looks pretty weak in comparison :p It also had an interesting curve where I got far too distracted by watching the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice.... whoops!

I love it :D You got good tension too which isnt easy. Your hair is so shiny and pretty!!!

Did you kind of weave it? I used to do 4, five and size strand braids by kind of weaving them. They came out more flat like a beavertail, not 3d like those scoobi-dos (little vinyl string things that you made into keyrings for friends).

Looks great and well done for not giving up until it was mastered!

They look wonderful! I can barely make a decent normal three strand braid myself; my hair pokes out in weird ways. I guess practice makes perfect, though :)

These are great, LittleOrca! Very sophisticated looking (even with a Spongebob background... heh). I love your hair color, BTW. It suits you perfectly.

I would love to learn how to do a braid like this. Maybe I'll give it a go, even though I am positive mine won't be as sleek as those pictured here. :o

Your hair is beautiful and the braid looks awesome!

By the way, a bit off topic but since I figured you like the sea and sea creatures...

On the West coast of Ireland we have a wild dolphin who just happens to like people! He's often seen swimming up to and alongside boats :)

That's awesome, LittleOrca! Wet or dry, as long as you were able to get it down that's all that matters. My dry hair, well my hair whenever, has a mind of its own. Haha. They look phenomenal!

Holy cow! That is stunning! I've never tried this. I've attempted a four strand, but it was not nearly as neat as this. Kudoes!!

Thanks everyone. :D I am going to try more at the coast during down time to get the big braid done now that I know I can do the little one. :) The biggest part of the big braid that was a pain was that my arms hurt after a while and just resting them on the wall by leaning against it didn't work after a while, hehe.
