View Full Version : straighten hair without heat?

Does anyone know of a way to straighten 2a/b/c hair without using heat? I have vowed to put down my straightener, but there are some days when my hair won't cooperate with plopping or other heatless curl techniques, and it would be so much easier just to straighten. Is there a way to make it straight(er) without using heat and without damaging it and making it frizzy? Will doing something like that *discourage* the curl the next time I plop?

I was just doing some searches myself for this same thing. DD11 has 2c/3a hair and wants to wear it straight and I no longer want to use a flat iron on it. I would love to hear what ladies here do.

Wrap your hair after you wash it:

^ I use that technique. I wrap my hair soaking wet, and use large duckbill clips and clip my hair in various places so it does not fall down. I then wrap a tshirt around my head and go to sleep (it's surprisingly not uncomfortable). In the morning I take it down, and although my hair is not PERFECTLY straight, it is pretty dang close. I get a blow dried kind of look. My hair becomes very smooth and manageable. Actually yesterday I had somebody ask me what brand of flat iron I use! It may take a few attempts to get it right. Good luck!

Here's my hair naturally: (sorry about the blacked out faces, not fond of these pictures LOL)

Here's my hair after wrapping (I apologize that I don't have a better picture! Also, this is second day hair, not freshly washed, so it is a bit flattened out even more.):

Without any heat or products whatsoever, I'm incredibly happy with this technique!

I dont think there is a way to get that straight look you get with a hair straightener, I wish. Maybe you can try blow drying with cold air.

The wrapping thing is AMAZING! See this (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=51781) thread for some action pics and tips :)

I tried that wrapping technique, but I had issues !
Issue # 1 : I think I may have too much hair for this. It was crazy trying to wrap all my hair around my head this way and I had to cheat and use a bunch of clips. It was hair overload.
Issue # 2 : I tried this with damp hair and then went to bed. When I woke up my hair was still just as damp ! Not sure why it didn't dry atleast some.
There is a different video of this wrapping technique by a different lady and she uses Saran Wrap instead of a scarf and she sits under a dryer. She takes the Saran Wrap off and shows her results and it is super straight like she used a flat iron. Really impressive ! Just maybe not for my hair :(

Yes, thanks for suggesting wrapping! I want to try it, but there's a heatless curling technique I want to try first (I'll be doing it tonight when I wash my hair), so I won't be able to try wrapping till I wash my hair again on Wednesday night. I'll take pics though!

I am 2a/2b, I have waves, not curls, but when I want to have my hair straighter than usually or when I want to get rid of braid waves I just do a ponytail wieh few elastics, one under another one. If the elastics are soft and not thin they won't leave any "wavy" marks on the hair.
