Could somebody point me in the direction of a good 3-strand rope braid tutorial? I understand how the 2-strand rope braid works, but can't get the 3-strand variation to stay tight.

The only one I know of is this one: http://2good2lose.com/braid-rope.shtml
Basically it works like with two strands, you just have to twist the rightmost strand then put it all the way to the left, twist rightmost strand again and put it to the left (over both the other strands). Hope that helps :)

And once you get the three-strand one down you can take a shot at the four-strand rope braid (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=5314)!

Thanks Phexlyn! I just tried it and it worked!! My braid is much tighter now.

I do think that the whole hand positioning explanation in the tut is making it harder to understand than it really is, though. Your explanation made it much more clear, so double thanks for that:flowers:!

...showoff. hehe, :p

I'm assuming both of these variations (3 & 4 strand) eat up quite a bit of length, yes?

Ah great, pictures!! I'll give that a go too! Perhaps one day my signature style will be the 20 strand french and dutch rope braid rose bun :)
