I get some serious tangles on the underside of my hair if I wear it down.

But on the other hand I think that buns and braids are getting too regular for me.

I tried to search for wearing hair down, but I got lots of threads on how to avoid it.

How about some waves? Torrin Page has a lovely video on making waves in your hair. As long as yo do not brush them when you take out the braids and curlers to make them, they should not frizz or tangle too bad.

Oiling your hair might help with the tangles on the underside of your hair as well, but I am not too sure about it as I have never had to use oil on my hair for those reasons. Hopefully someone with more information can help you out. :)

I posted a similar question here and I received a variety of responses.

Maybe one of the suggestions will work for you. I have found that topping off super-moisturized hair (hair immediately after an SMT) with some coconut oil, gives better slip. It didn't completely get rid of my tangles, but detangling was easier and my hair felt better than it used to feel after detangling.
Mini braids also help, but you have to make sure they don't show. This is difficult if you have very layered hair.
