Miss Unruh, your braided bun is especially gorgeous!

I don't have a functioning camera at the moment, so here are two slightly wonky webcam pics of my hairdo today:

http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g31/darthsnoo/hair/twinropebuns1_zps67d6faba.jpg

http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g31/darthsnoo/hair/twinropebuns2_zpsde0ebdb6.jpg

I did two English accent braids on either side of my parting. I put the rest of my hair into two rose buns, and then wound the accent braids around the buns. Am really pleased with this hairdo - I think I'll do it again tomorrow! :) I don't do twin buns often; should do them more!

I tried a braided bun with a long piece of cloth. I made the middle section of the braid thicker than the other two, tied the cloth around the middle section and added the two halves of the cloth to the two thinner sections. Then I braided it and twisted the braid into a bun. The cloth was longer than my hair so I could wrap it around the base of my bun.

Later I saw a photo of a girl with a huge sock bun with a scarf wrapped around it and tried to imitate it.

That's a great pha bun, Wildcat Diva! And I looove your glittery hairstick!

I just did a french braided chinese bun with my new Pacific Merchantile hairstick which came in the mail today. I was amazed at how short the hairstick was, and thought, "I'm sure it is supposed to be 5 inches long!" I measured it and it is! It looked so short in my hair, but I guess it means my buns are getting bigger, yay!I also noticed that my hair is really varied in colour, with a real mix of lighter and darker, it shows pretty well in this photo, I hadn't realised it had such variations before....

Sparrowswing, my son would flip out at the sight of those! Lightsabers! So cool!

Here are a couple recent ones... The "I have no idea what it is bun" -- I'll admit, if I can get it looped up in a presentable manner, and it holds all day, it's a winner. I seem to be challenged when it comes to following bun instructions for the various types, the looping, finger placement, wrap this way, then that... Behind my head... Usually leaves me with nothing that resembles what I intended to do.

All of these buns are so pretty and perfect! I'm so lazy with my hair when it comes to styling! lol but it's so unruly and everywhere that it's harder to make pretty buns. Also, I have a lot of frizz/fly aways so they never look that great anyway :/ I wish I had some of the accessories you guys have! I just have one pair of sticks! I'm new to buns and styling my hair so I'm unfamiliar with all the types of buns and the names of them.

Then, thanks to loving the bun but hating how the rope braids caused my hair to tangle, today I've been wearing a braided vortex bun. Only two braids, however. I think I should try it with three next!

I'm very envious of people who can pull off braided buns like yours, bunzfan. Mine always look ridiculous. I have quite a taper, so the inside of my bun is made with a comparatively chunky braid that has barely any 'texture' from the braiding, and the outside is made from a ridiculously skinny braid.

tried the vortex because of Bunzfan ... but I failed miserably ! I made 2 big mistakes I think : 1 my braids were to fuzzy and not well braided where they started and 2 it was the first time I used u-pins and I think I didn't insert them like it should I think.
So trying again and again !
My hair might be a bit to short to I think (start brushing hip with the longest tips)

This is how I wish my braided cinnabuns looked. Sadly, I have too much taper so the middle part always looks like a clunky, undefined lump surrounded by a ridiculously skinny outer coil. One day when I've trimmed off my taper I'll try again.

Thank you :D the only thing that concerns me is using a hair tie i dont want to cause damage and without it its not as secure. i dont tie my ends as im paranoid about causing breakage and making my taper worse, i just seal the ends with coconut oil, its pretty secure once you got your stick, fork or whatever your holding the bun together with. I sleep with 2 braids and just seal the ends again with coconut oil and my braid is still in by morning , though i dont move around a lot!

My lovely SO made this hair stick for me on his new lathe. This one is a very pretty redheart wood! I look forward to posting in the handmade hairtoys thread once I have made some on my own :)
Pretty! Love the hair stick! Your DH is talented!

Excellent cinnabun! I wouldn't worry about the fuzziness. That's me at the start of the day. At the end of the day? Yeah we don't go there. Haha.

Yeah, I'm a bit nonexistent a lot of the time when my own hair is concerned. :scared:

One set of the new hair sticks. The Naughty Mess thinks they are stupid, because they are longer and he can no longer slip little loops over the ends just to be naughty.
Gorgeous stick and bun! Is that another one of your inventions?

I was bored and decided to divide my hair in half and do infinity buns. I made one Half teeny tiny though so instead of an infinity bun over lapping the top of another it's a swirly thing.

Thanks meishkamooshka! :flower:
I haven't tried bunning the 5 strand yet - but now you've put ideas in my head! :p :D
It's basically a giant rose bun, made of five rope braids. Two from the front, one at the crown and two either side on the bottom.
I've found the braid placement to be rather versatile - it also makes a nice high bun, I discovered this evening.

This is in the style of the month thread. They are rose buns (rope braid buns).

I have been experimenting with buns lately and I think I have some photos I need to upload and resize to post. I have a bunch of bun photos but I am wondering if I have already posted them here? I sort of forgot about this thread.

I am looking for ways to "pretty up" my buns without ornaments. I am not an ornament or jewel type person (flowers, etc, I don't even like sticks with toppers). I did tie a scarf around my bun on day and it looked ok but a bit too fancy for me. So I m trying to focus on the "pretty" being the hair itself, adding accents and twists. Nothing really successful yet. My hair is so fine it snaps easily when the little hairs get separated as they always seem to do if I am braiding tiny braids.

My first attempt at a rope-braid bun. Not that big because my hair is only shoulder-blade length.

Wish I could figure out how to upload big pics.

I do believe this is a successful figure-eight, or at least something that very much looks like it. I had a few inches to spare, so I must've grown into this style without noticing. Go figure. Please disregard the terrible flyaway bangs; with the death of my flat-iron, I have now gone entirely heat-free, and they do not cooperate or go into updos yet. Headbands and messy buns are my go-to style until they'll do something else.

The other day I wore a very (very) simplified version of Janet Stephens' recreation of Faustina the Younger's hairdo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_HPj...LsVazw&index=5- mine was just 2 lace braids at the sides and a cinnamon bun made with 2 braids. I'd definitely use some bobby pins if I was wearing it somewhere special (I got away with one elastic and one stick), but for an updo challenged soul I'm pretty happy with it!

Yes I can add it to the list but this one is long and it involves a lot of swearing at The Naughty Mess, I will practice it some so maybe there is less unwillingness to participate on The Naughty Mess's side of things. We didn't start showing off buns because I didn't really think they where anything interesting until I showed off my favorite and figure out they are interesting. I am also going to utilize youtube from here on out with the hair stuff when the tablet finally gets fixed. Mister Fixer man's shipping is slower then he expected. I kind of want to strangle him.

Edit:

Tell me if I've missed stuff but I am making a list for instructions I need to make:

Ear to ear double lace rope crazyness bun

The crazy bun that has a spiral over the top that makes it look like the Michelin man.

The rope french braid with paranda to failed hawser with crazy paranda tail.

The bad word bun that is four lace dutch braids to a four strand. (we will probably do that one first since it will be the hardest)

The 2 dutch lace braids to the inescapable knot knot knot hair stick

If youtube/muffin's router would hurry the *bleep* *bleep* up you would all have instructions. I got the whole video uploaded (it took 3 hours) and then it says "Oh no it's to long. Sign this text that, do the hokie pokie. Okay NOW you can upload it as it is."

So the camera experiment for tutorials is fail. my tab uploads while recording so waiting will just have to happen. Trust me I am getting impatient too.

It's 20 minutes long. Sorry. I didn't feel like cutting it or editing it at all.

No problem. The hair sticks are from Emergent Glasswork I believe. And they use awesome glass. I didn't mention that after hitting a garage door and the floor that the flung hair stick was fine.

Here's a bun I managed this morning after wear two sleep braids last night. I just wanted it up and didn't want to mess with taking apart the braids (too time consuming), so I stuck a stick through both braids at the back of my head then alternately wrapped the braids around the stick, criss-crossing in the middle twice and securing both ends at the top with one spin pin. It's very secure if a bit messy because the braids had fuzzed out overnight.

I finally took the time to figure out a way to wear my moon. (Its sycamore, 3 in prong to prong, I made it.)
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2307&d=1360340503
It is a Hypnotica inspired twisty thing. I made a ponytail with one hand, slipped the moon below the pony, held the moon with one hand and the base of the pony and the length together with the other hand and gently pulled up and twisted the moon until just a couple inches of ends were sticking out at the base of the pony and then twisting in the same direction coiled up the twisted part until the moon met my head, then slipped the moon back just enough so that I could work one end into what was the base of the pony.

I did it the first time without thinking much about it and then thought, hey, that's pretty cool, and took it out to see if I could do it again and promptly couldn't. Took about six tries before it worked again.

Neko,I love your moon and hairdo!!,we have the same length of hair and I just bought a 4 and 5 incher moon and looking at your pic am now afraid they'll be too big for me.Hopefully I can grow into them. And you did a great job making it yourself.

I wasn't sure how big to make it and decided at least if it was too small I could use it for half ups. I could probably use a 4 inch just fine. Not much of the moon shows at three inches.

I have a hawser bun to take pictures of. It's an indistructabun

WaitingSoLong
February 8th, 2013, 06:26 PM
I didn't think the hawser looked very good in a bun on my hair.

I am really wanting to try some braid-accent buns but I am not sure what to do. I think crown braids looks great from the back and horrid from the front (I don't have the face for it). I like twin dutch braids but just putting them into 1 or 2 buns doesn't look that great to me.

Any ideas? I saw a chic on an old TV show that had an accent braid starting from the nape of her neck and then up into a high bun on top of her head. But I don't do "top of head" buns and it got me thinking about starting braids lower. I was thinking maybe 2 low accent braids but...then what?

it's not a flattering bun because the twisty-ness of bun ness messes with the pattern.

I always do side accent braids down the side of my face, as you all have seen through my pictures. You can start them anywhere and do cameo buns, rose buns. knotknots

The Naughty Mess says, "Knotknots are not okay."

Because you can't escape them shush.

The Naughty Mess says, "NO ONE who is sane ties knots in their hair."

Sane people don't talk to their hair either Mess.
