I've been asked frequently to model in pin-up or rockabilly styles, which I must say, was easier with my shorter hair.

Has anyone had any luck with creating pin-up styles with longer hair? I'm very interested in hearing from some Classic Length girls and girls with a variety of bangs. Any tips, tricks or "cheats" are greatly appreciated.

And I do apologize if I did not post this in the correct forum.

Um, you aren't at classic yet, are you? I see 22 inches as current. There is lots of length between that and classic that you can experiment with as you are growing and make the styles and techniques suit you.

Here are several threads in which we have discussed retro styles. There may be more. Try searching pin curls and look to see if any of the threads are tagged. Searching those tags may yield more results than a word search.

At least one thread has some discussion about adapting rolls for longer hair. Essentially, you start the roll in the middle, then wrap the rest of your hair around your fingers before rolling to your roots to complete the look of the roll. This will result in wonky curls when it comes down but it works for making a roll look right.

If you are having trouble shaping pin curls because of the length you may need to move to making rag curls or using sponge rollers or hot stix or perm rods. Or you may just need more practice.

Good luck!

No, I'm nowhere near to classic!

But I am also a photographer, and I work with models who are.

Do a Google Images search for Lily "The Cat Girl" Christine.

She was a burlesque dancer from the '50s and always kept her hair at waist-length or longer.
