View Full Version : A two in one style - a fake out & sleep style

I adapted this from this thread: A new style - the Rag Bun!
http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y371/Bluegrass-Babe/th_nikonpics009.jpg (http://s1031.photobucket.com/piture/y371/Bluegrass-Babe/?action=view&current=nikonpics009.jpg)

My mom-in-law's jaw dropped when she saw me walk in! :p
It is great for sleeping. I have outgrown Purplebubba's sleep ponytails (they were stretching out my sleep cap). And for those who find that strangers want to touch their hair, its great for running errands around town without attracting unwanted attention. :cheese:

Here's the adaptation: Keep the pony low and the elastic just below where you want hemline to be. Start rolling from the side instead of upside down and over your head. Once you have the first few rolls secure, just roll from the back up or the hemline will be slanted (shorter from the side you leaned to start the roll). Roll all the way up for short bob or only half way for shoulder length. Tie scarf on top of your head instead of around the roll.

Hope that helps someone. Post pics if it works for you. :)

I used this faux bob on April fools day and got a lot of people on my facebook page mad at me for cutting off my hair. :D

I'd love to try it, but I'm a little confused about what you mean by rolling from the side. :o

I have a tutorial on my Youtube hair page here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1IvsCdd9Gw

That should help you Quixii!

Wow, thank you so much for that video Orca! I'll love to do that in the future... :D
It's such a gorgeous, awesome and trickable style!

I wish there was a way to replicate this with layers! My layers keep falling out and makes everything so messy. Le sigh! :p Are there any 'making-shorter' styles that make it easier for layers and don't use a ribbon? :)

Little Orca your hair is the most stunning I have ever seen!! Looks like pure polished gold! You are one of the reasons I decided to join LHC.
I love your mermaid vids - the costumes are awesome and your swimming is impressive. I can't get my face wet without a panic attack!

There is another youtube vid similar to yours but the lady there didn't roll the hair.
She just tightened her scarf and pulled the hair up and under. When I saw the Rag Bun vid I just thought to combine the two techniques. Did you have a thread on that style here on the boards? I found LHC while looking for sleep styles.

How long did you fool your friends? I really liked the shocked look I got and the eye roll later!

Thanks for the compliments. :) :o I still see it as a huge work in progress though, hehe.

I had my friends fooled all day, some of them even stopped me at school the next time I saw them and were like "I thought you chopped it off!" It was awesome since I didn't think it would really work. My LHC friends were like "Wait a second...!" and they knew what was up but the others didn't, so therefore it should fool most of the world. ;)

I'd love to try it, but I'm a little confused about what you mean by rolling from the side. :o

The lady in the rag bun video leaned foreward and flipped her ponytail up over her head to roll it. She was facing the countertop and her ponytail. I leaned forward on counter top but I turned my head slightly and pulled my pony over my shoulder (away from my face). Mine kept rolling funny and pulling hair when I stood back up doing it her way. But it might work for you. Maybe it depends on hair length.

I wish there was a way to replicate this with layers! My layers keep falling out and makes everything so messy. Le sigh! :p Are there any 'making-shorter' styles that make it easier for layers and don't use a ribbon? :)

I had that problem too when I watched the other lady's video. It is on youtube under "Youtips4U - Have a short hair style instantly without cutting your long hair". (sorry I don't have the hang of linking yet) I wish I found LittleOrca's video first. My hair kept slipping out. If you use a bandana it is not as slippery. If you try LittleOrca's method you should pull down your ribbon/scarf just a few inches above your shortest layer. It may take some practice to tuck/roll rest of your ponytail. I would watch all the videos and then try to combine parts of each to get something that works.

Then come tell us about it. :) Good luck!

Oh, yes. Cuddledumplin posted this long, long ago. Lemme see if I can find it.

I was desperately trying to find this type of info last year, but found only youtips4u on youtube. It didn't work for me. :(

Why didn't I find this earlier? Cuddledumplin's thread is in the archives so maybe that's why I didn't see hers. The search feature here is not all that great.

My friend called to tell me she saw my post but my pictures don't show-"just the pretty mermaid girl's pictures". :D
Are yours on an offsite photo host? She is not a member, btw. I really want the whole world to be able to see.

They were linked from my FB account. I don't think I have them on anything but that.

:shocked:How did you do that?! I knew there was a way!
Mine are from my LHC album so that is probably the reason. I should've used my photobucket.

Thank you LittleOrca and WritingPrincess for the links. I forwarded them to another thread where a woman was looking for this very thing!

(now off to give you credit)

I did something similar to that when I was trying to decide whether to cut my hair. When I saw how I would look with shorter hair, I joined LHC.
