View Full Version : Question about Hairline Frizzies

Hey LHC-ers! With my curly hair, I've accepted the fact that I'll often have a halo curls. No big deal.
But my question is about hair that NEVER seems to exceed just a few inches (maybe 3-4) in length around my hairline. This is most noticeable at my temples and at the nape of my neck. I would really love for them to lengthen so that they stop escaping my "clumps" of curls and end up just looking like frizzies. Sometimes, the nape-hairs will make lovely spiral curls that escape my updos, and I never mind that :).
I'm just curious if maybe these hairs have a super short terminal length, or of they just experience the most breakage from friction when I bun my hair at night and sleep on it (I sleep on my back and sides mostly). How would I try to assist these particular hairs in growing?

I don't have an answer for you, except my hair does that too. Though recently I noticed something interesting and kind of related. I started to think that the hairs at the nape of my neck were shorter than the rest of my wavyish 1c/2a hair. Well, I gave one a tug and realized it really was much closer to the length of the rest of my hair (though still a few inches shorter than my longest layers) but for some reason, maybe it's the humidity or a change in routine, they've become insanely more curly than the rest of my hair, giving me frizzy tight curls there.
As for the sides of my head... I'm beginning to suspect some of the hair by my temples has a terminal length of 3 or 4 inches! I get these lovely (ha) wings. :p Fortunately I've discovered that Night Blooming Panacea is fantastic for getting my wings to mesh better into the rest of my head.

Don't worry, that's perfectly normal. They're just hairs with a shorter terminal length. Lots of people have them. If you're interested, here are some random other threads on that subject! :)

My hair does that. I always have a halo of little fluffy baby hairs that get eager to greet the world. Also I have hair along my hairline that only gets a few inches long if even that, since more are shorter). Mine all have a short terminal length, so as much as they can rile me for some things, I've had to learn to live with them.
ETA: I know a few other curlies that all have the exact same issue, so they've just had to adjust to it as well.

My daughter has the same problem. The hair around her face only grows to about chin-length. I always thought it was due to wearing a pony-tail most of the time - maybe the hair breaks more easily when it's in a covered elastic.

Thanks for the links, naereid! I thought I did an appropriate search before starting a thread, but apparently not .
I actually don't mind them. They're easy to "manage." I was just worried that I was maybe taking bad care of those areas. Glad to know I'm not failing them! I'll still try to vary the way I treat them to see if they'll get a bit longer. It wasn't long ago I learned about terminal length anyway! Thanks everyone!

Don't worry about it, I'm a total search fiend!
