I thought that it would be nice to have in one place how many people are taking DE (Diatomaceous earth) and how much you are taking.
You can also say how long you have been taking it & what all results that you have noticed.

I am taking 1 Tab. in AM. I haven't seen that much in growth in 6 mon. but it has helped in the shedding problem, so I keep taking it for that reason.

I have been taking a tab spoon a day split between AM and PM. I have only been taking DE for 3 weeks, i havent noticed any great inprovement in growth, but like Fairlight63, i hardly shed any hairs now. Other than that, i sleep like a baby...seriously, i can't even remember falling asleep when i close my eyes, and my dreams...whooaaa! VERY vivid dreams! Has anyone else noticed these differences with sleep?

Does Tab mean Tablespoon? I think the usual abbreviation is Tbl, so I wasn't sure.

But I take roughly 1 tablespoon each evening mixed with a small glass of juice/water. I say roughly because I just have a plastic teaspoon in my tub and scoop a big rounded spoonful into my cup.

I would take it twice a day, except that it makes me *very* sleepy and when I've taken it in the morning I have spent the entire day just wanting to do nothing but lounge around.

I've been taking it for a week or two, and I take a tablespoon in the morning and another in the evening. I haven't noticed too much of a difference in growth yet, but definitely less shedding! I've been sleeping better, and my, err.. digestion has been much, MUCH better, too. Love this stuff.

1 Tbls am and pm, good growth, digestion and sleep. I have been taking it for 7 weeks, and have had 2 inches growth in that time.

Currently taking 2 heaping TBSP in the morning (when I can remember to take it, that is). I haven't measured my hair in a few months (looking to get an average, not spurt, type measurement) but my first week it grew half an inch... :)

I tried some that I bought in Italy a few summers ago and liked it a lot but I can't find any here in the states! :( Where do you all get yours? Would they have it in stores or would I have to order it online?

I put two tablespoons in my afternoon shake, which has been wonderful. I haven't been taking it consistently, but I've noticed that my bangs have grown about 1/4" in the past two weeks!

I ordered mine from Amazon. I got the 10lb bag which is big, maybe 50+ cups. It'll take me FOREVER to get through that!

I`ve been taking it for 2 days and I`ve had 1 teaspoon at night. Once my body gets used to it, i`ll up the dose.

Hi, here is the link to were I got mine.
I live in Norway, and it took about two weeks to get it in the mail, should take a lot less time for you since you live in the states:)

just started - doing 1 tsp. - will up that to 1 tbsp next week. yeah, the dreams .... disturbing, so weird and so hard to pull out of them - usually my dreams are pretty normal, but the dreams since i started 3 days ago - whoa! i used to take algonquin co.'s lucid dream tea - this is nothing like that! if anything, i feel more deeply immersed and less in control of the dream, and i keep trying to pull myself awake and then i dream i've woken up and i still haven't woken up and then the alarm's been going off for i don't know how long and i still can't wake up! i might have to take this stuff in the morning :)

I take a heaping teaspoon every morning. No amazing growth, helps me fall asleep at night though as has been said.

A question though; someone said that there is a kind of DE that helps digestion and a kind that helps hair growth and neither does the other's job. I had never heard this before, any one know what this was about?

That sounds very strange...do you mean someone referred to the DE foodgrade powder when saying this:confused:

DE powder is what it is...
Diatomaceous Earth is 84% Silicon Dioxide (Silica).

DE powder is not separated into different things so you can buy one DE powder for hair and one DE powder for stomach, since DE foodgrade powder is what it is, namely 84% Silica...

The one I am taking is DE and can help for many things, not divided into separate powders so one can help for that and the other can help for this...

That is at leas what I have read on the website, I can`t find anything else that matches what you are told...?

Maybe get back to person who told you this and get some clarification since this sounded a bit strange. Unless there is something I don`t know (which is possible, lol:o)

I'm confused - isn't that the stuff in kitty litter and that's used in insect killer???

I confess to knowing nothing about it, but the name of the stuff caught my eye because I was researching it a little while back (we had an infestation and someone said sprinkle kitty litter because this stuff was in it and would do something to the ants' exoskeletons - I don't know, it was somewhat confusing).

Anyhow - tell me how this works?

If you want you can click the link I put in, in my post (# 11) you can read a lot about it there, a lot of info there:)

Also takes you directly to the powder in question:)

apparently, it doesn't harm good things in your garden, like earthworms - only harms insects with exoskeletons (the beetles, ants, and so on that munch on our vegetables and roses!!) by piercing their hard shell and then the insect basically dries out. the info. pamphlet i got with my DE from Agrogreen Canada was really interesting - it explained why DE is so useful for adding to the feed of cattle, pigs, and other livestock - there is a clumping action where the silica binds the food together in the digestive tract and at the same time, aids the digestive juices in breaking it down - so the food goes through the tract more slowly, and gets better broken up, before passing out. livestock get more nutrition from the same feed that way. also, as most livestock have some kind of intestinal parasites at one time or another, the DE prevents malnutrition and other losses (as from diarrhea) by eliminating the intestinal parasites. anyway, it was a really interesting pamphlet - there is more info. on DE on their web site, as well - www.agrogreen.com

An interesting question would be is there a difference between the DE people are taking. I just got some amorphous silica. Does anyone else know if we are all certain we are talking of an equal substance? I have heard conflicting information and wish to alleviate confusion.

I bought some from ebay last year to treat my cat's fleas, I asked the vendor if it was food grade because I had read that it is possible to get pool filter grade by accident and this is not the kind you want. Thankfully it was food grade.
I tried it on the cats coats and it was a nightmare to apply especially as I am asthmatic, and I never tried again but I always thought I could use what's leftover as a food supplement. So far I have not tried partly through fear!
Are folk still positively raving about DE as a food additive or was it a passing fad?

So far I've been taking it for two weeks and I've upped it from one teaspoon to two, and next week i'll be doing a full tablesppon.

I've noticed the improvement in the tummy area. But I have a question... has anyone noticed the poops getting smaller?
