View Full Version : Curly color-treated hair - Best products? Is jojoba color safe? BWC?

I have been coloring my grey roots for a few years but I recently noticed my greying roots coming in faster. I either have recently had extra growth (an inch in a month) or my color faded faster. I used both jojoba oil and Beauty Without Cruelty Leave-in Conditioner (BWC) daily this past month. BWC is suppose to be safe for chemically treated hair so I assumed that meant color-treated hair. I believe jojoba is very gentle too. Do you think I just got more growth this past month and unfortunately that meant more grey this time? Or do you think my products stripped my color?

For those of you who have color-treated hair, what products work best? Has jojoba oil been safe for your color-treated hair?

Thanks!

Unfortunately it's one of the downsides to colouring greying hair that the intervals between touch-ups will get shorter the more grey you get in your hair. Blondes have it easier in that respect since their roots tend to blend in with the rest, but for a medium to dark brunette like me it's now "Re-touch every four to five weeks or skunk stripe!"

I'm currently using the Nivea colour care shampoo, since it doesn't have cones, but am currently thinking about switching since I feel my colour has been looking quite dull-ish lately. My conditioner is a German drug store own-brand (Alverde) so that probably isn't going to help you much.

As far as jojoba oil is concerned I've never noticed it having any colour draining effect, and I'm using it almost daily as a leave-in on my ends.

Hope that helps

I have found the Giovanni 50/50 shampoo and conditioner to be very friendly to my color treated hair. I use Carol's Daughter products for leave in purposes and they are very gentle on my color too. :)

Thanks K Hepburn and Copperhead for the advice.

I do think that more grey is coming in around the temple so that is why it looks like I need to recolor after only 4 weeks. i also think I got more growth than normal this past month. At least that part is good news. I'm going to try to wait longer. I do not like getting such visiable greys in my dark brown hair in my thirties! Especially since the curly greys are so wiry, dry and try to frizz more than the rest of my hair. But at least I can take gentle care of it.

Since I believe it is new growth versus fading, I believe the jojoba and BWC are not affecting the color retention.

Thanks for mentioning the products you all use.

I still am interested in any one's recommendations on more products that work well on color-treated hair.

Non sulfate shampoo if you use it is way better on colored hair. I have heard oil does pull color from hair so I dont use it for a few days after coloring. I dont hardly ever use it on my roots because Im so afraid I will have to color the greys sooner. I do use it on my length and sometimes I do heavy oiling. I have not seen any color fading on the length though from the oil. I think its just me being paranoid.
