My hair is light brown/dark blond with some white hairs (not that much).
I want to color the whites with cassia. I now they will not dissappear but a golden shine would be nice.

What do I mix the cassia with to get the most dye release?
Do I leave it for several hours like henna before applying?
How long should I leave it on my hair?

I would:

- Mix it with steaming chamomile tea (a great conditioner and gold color enhancer)

- Put it someplace warm and cover for two hours

- Apply it for two hours or so and rinse with water and conditioner, do not shampoo for a few days

- seal the cuticle with an ACV rinse :)

Cassia is pH sensitive. You can do the reverse of what is done here, http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=13332. Adding undiluted honey, orange juice, cinnamon and evoo should help give you red gold tones.
