Yeah, I am glad to have that mask outta here, because I'm no fan of Aunt Jackie's anymore. Tried 4 products by the brand, 1 leave-in (still in use), 1 curl cream, 2 conditioners. The only product that is somewhat OK is the "in control" hair mask, but nothing spectacular; I have had better drugstore products. It kind of disappointed me because the range looked promising to me (not too expensive for a natural hair brand).
There is nothing worse than spending money on a product, getting it home and discovering it does nothing for you at all. Ugh.
The thing for me and it sounds like for you as well lapushka...I hate wasting. So I usually will suffer through and use it up anyway just so I don’t feel like I’ve wasted my money. My one friend throws products away after one use, if she doesn’t like it...but I just can’t do that. I was raised to not waste anything.
I like buying a lot of my hair products from Trade Secrets and Sephora, here in Canada...because both places will allow their customers to purchase a product and try it out...but they will give you a full refund with no questions asked, if you don’t like it. Or you can trade it for something else...and there is no limit on how many times you can return products. They want you to be happy. I love dealing with places like that...places who have outstanding customer service. I notice now too that even one of the drugstores I frequent is now saying I can return used hair products if I’m not happy!!! How cool is that! The way it should be.

Yep that is so me, I will not be wasteful. But the curl la la (Aunt Jackie's curl cream), I threw out because the styling cream flaked on me, on its own, so not even with gel on top (because you can then easily leave the gel off). But no, it went in my hair and I had to wash my lengths again. So heck no, that just isn't right!
We can't return used items in the EU such as body lotion, shampoo, make-up; it's just policy.

You know what? I use to be the same way.
Well I noticed lately that my hair is getting worse and condition when I am using product that my hair doesn’t really like. The more and more I use a product that my hair doesn’t like it makes my hair just feel so bad!
Then I use something I do like and my curls get better and my hair starts to get normal again.
I try to use products up in every way possible But sometimes it really isn’t worth it!

Yup, I see your point too. Sometimes, it’s better to just give something away if your hair is just screaming “Nooooooo” every time you use it.

9x 13 Fl oz garnier dandruff shampoo
3x 32fl oz dandruff shampoo
4x 16oz Ryo hanbitmo shampoo
1x 20oz V05 clarifying shampoo
1x 28oz Tresemme clarifying shampoo
1x 12oz Sunsilk shampoo
39x 10 Fl oz John Frieda conditioner
5x 32oz Tresemme Moisture rich conditioner
0.5x 28oz Tresemme Naturals cone free conditioner
1.5x 13oz Ogx conditioner
3x 16oz Ryo hanbitmo conditioner
1x 25oz Citre shine conditioner
0.5x 17.7oz Pantene dream care conditioner
1x 12.5oz Garnier whole blends honey conditioner
Total: 305oz shampoo and 678oz of conditioner! I am really shocked. I might have a couple more bottles in my bedroom closet, but this is the large majority of it.
If I very generously use 0.5oz of shampoo and 1oz conditioner each wash with CWC, with 183 washes per year, I have 3.3 years of shampoo and 3.7 years of conditioner. In reality, I don't use that much, and it could be closer to 4 years of shampoo and 5 years of conditioner. Yikes!
Edit-- this is not even counting all the bottles in my shower. Most of them are nearly gone though. All the products listed above I intend to use. Anything I dont like has already been given to friends and family.

I recently stocked up on conditioner I know my hair loves and extras to try, so I think I need to start this challenge. My problem is I use generous amounts of conditioner but not enough to frequently use up bottles. I'll have to post the list and limitations in the week but if I at least join the thread there's at least some accountability!

I know I'm probably joining this a little late, but I want in on this anyway.
For me, the challenge isn't buying new shampoo. I order mine online about once a year and just switch between types as the season changes. I currently have 4 bottles, which last all year. I also don't use any gels or styling products, so I don't buy those anyway. Conditioners, scalp treatments and oils are my weakness. I make my own oil blends, so I have a bunch of partial bottles of various types of oils and it takes me a long time to go through them. I currently have olive, coconut, jojoba, castor, sesame, safflower, argan, mustard, avocado, sweet almond, camellia, fenugreek... and probably a couple of others. I need to replace my jojoba oil because I am almost out and I'll need to get more avocado oil before the end of the year. But those are the only oils I am allowed to buy for the year. The timing of this is great because I'm getting married about this time next year and I am moving during that time. Having a smaller oil stash will help with that.
As far as scalp treatments go, I use my oil collection to make most of those as well. On top of the ones that I make, I also use Tropical Isle Strong Roots Red Pimento Hair Growth Oil (man, that's a long name to type) and The Innate Life Scalp Treatment for Problematic Scalp. I have one container of each of these products, and 3 other scalp treatments that I made that are partially gone. For this category, I am only allowed to buy one more jar of the Innate Life Scalp Treatment within this year and one more of the Tropical Isle one, but only after I finish using all my partials and reduce some of my oil stash.
Okay, my last category. Conditioners. I primarily order these along with the shampoo online once a year, but I also have a habit of buying extras of this because I use conditioner for making deep conditioners. Which I also buy. So... My goal for this year is to finish all the open bottles that I have. In theory I have enough to get me through the year, but winter just started here... so I can't say I'm not going to need to buy more during the year since my hair will just drink up conditioner. My goal in this category is to not buy conditioner until I use up what I have and then buy only what I need, not buy it to experiment with.

I used up one of my conditioners - the ACV one. It was nice, light, protein free and smelled like apples so I might repurchase it sometime in the future. I'm also using both of my hair masks as a conditioners. Right now I'm doing wash-condition-leavein routine every other day, so I hope to use more product up by the end of the year.

My favorite thing lately has been to dump all my kinda meh/okay conditioners together in one giant Pantene bottle. It's very satisfying to downsize on bottles. So now there's like 3 mixed together. I feel like I'm making progress quicker that way, I don't have to choose which to use each day either. I've been using a whole palm full of Tresemme conditioner every night so that should be finished soon.

I just realized I wanted to buy new product without even looking at what I have left from last year.
There is quite enough of everything - 3 shampoos, 4 conditioners, 2 masks, 3 leave-ins, 2 serums, few raw oils and cassia and henna for at least 6 root touch-ups. I'm continuing destashing :)

I don't know if I could ever use up my stash of hair products. I'm a junkie for sure and I am always trying some new shampoo and conditioner. I always think something else will work that much better. I am finally coming to the conclusion that regular old pantene moisture is the one I like best. Still won't stop me from wasting money on something new. I also have blue shampoo for when I'm highlighted, brown for when I'm wanting to tone down and be a bit richer colored and now red to try and offset my greenish hue.

Hey, I know the feeling 2gaits. ;) I can also admit it that I'm a junkie as well, and I don't know if I'll ever use up my whole stash either. I think I would have to wash my hair 2 or 3 times a day in order to use up what I got. I love trying out new hair products too! I'm always trying to find something new that works better for me too. I love the old pantene moisture products too. They work best for my hair too. Right now, I'm loving Garnier Fructis and Herbal Essence Hello Hydration Conditioners. I also have some purple shampoo and conditioner for when I used to bleach my hair many years ago. I still want to use that up as well.
And, just this pasted week I bought some Garier Fructis Triple Nutrition Conditioner a 33.8oz bottle for 4.92 at Walmart, and some Herbal Essence Hello Hydration for 4.92 33.8oz bottle also Walmart, and a tub of Garnier Fructis Smoothing Treat Hair Mask for $2.96 at Walmart. This is not going to stop me from spending money on hair products either. ;)

If I don’t like a product and it was expensive or I just hate to throw it away than I’ll slowly mix a bit of the product I don’t like into one that I do than I can’t notice it and it gradually gets used up.

Does it count if I give away some of my stash?
I have a co-worker who recently bleached her hair--color looks great, but the resulting texture and damage, not so much...
I gave her a jar of SM protein treatment, six or seven single-use hair masks, a jar of Pantene Damage-Erasing Balm and a bottle of Fructis Damage Remover conditioner.
I found what works for my hair, but never got around to using/finishing those items. I found it better to bless someone who can get some real use out of them than to keep them in my Happy Home, collecting dust and remaining unused, unwanted or unloved.

I don't know about this thread (I'm not the OP), but in the project use up you have to actually use it up (or state otherwise).
MusicalSpoons
June 19th, 2019, 04:29 AM
The OP mentioned swapping to reduce waste and further spending; personally I think giving away falls into a similar spirit - it certainly reduces waste and prevents unnecessary spending for someone else :) [of course we state what we've done with it anyway, fairly automatically, whether that's using it up, repurposing it, giving it away, or whatever else].
The project use-it-ups are mainly to see what we use up within the timeframe of a year, whereas this thread is more generally about getting through our stash of products/cosmetics. (I hope I remember the outcome of that discussion correctly! ;))

My stash has fluctuated a lot this year. Officially I have used 19 products so far. This year I have used one whole bottle of shampoo and four half empty shampoos, also shared a shampoo for some time with my SO but I didn't count that in the Project use it up challenge. Shampoos left at the moment:
- 200 ml Vichy Dercos Soothing shampoo
- 400 ml L'Oreal Elvital Low shampoo
- 250 ml Dermosil Deep cleansing shampoo
- 100 ml TRESemme Luxurious Moisture shampoo
I have used five whole bottles of conditioner and tossed one half empty away. The ones I have:
- 400 ml L´Oreal Elvital Dream Length Super detangler
- 400 ml L´Oreal Elvital Anti-breakage balsam
- 250 ml Dermosil silver conditioner
- 200 ml NJU Peach conditioner
- 200 ml XZ Rowan plex conditioner
As one can see from this list, I'm kind of a sucker for masks and treatments... I have used six deep conditioning treatments (only? I thought it would be more), one Olaplex No. 3 and also one scalp lotion. Treatments & leave-ins left:
- 280 ml Garnier Banana Hair Food mask
- 280 ml Garnier Papaya Hair Food mask
- 280 ml Garnier Macadamia Hair Food mask
- 280 ml Garnier Aloe Vera Hair Food mask
- 300 ml L'Oreal Elvital Dream Length mask
- 160 ml Hair Biology Cleanse&Reconstruct mask
- 250 ml Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Pure Locks
- 75 ml Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Reconstructing treatment
- 200 ml Balea Mango hair milk
- 2 Balea Hair mask packs
- 20 ml DM Alverde hair mask
- 4xSwiss-o-Par masks
- 100 ml Sim System 4 Scalp lotion
- 3xIkoo infusions thermal hair wrap
- 400 ml Garnier Fructis Aloe Air-dry cream
- 50 ml Phyto Hair cream
- 60 ml TRESemme Heat protection spray
- 250 ml Urtekram Aloe Vera leave-in spray
- 200 ml Natura Siberica Scalp scrub
- 100 ml Revolution Beauty London Rainbow Shot
4 items rehomed and 4 or 5 products tossed. Some products I'm trying to get rid of:
- 125 ml Phyto Sun protection spray
- 385 ml OGX O2 conditioner
- 280 ml Yes to Carrots Scalp Relief conditioner
40 left + 9 products rehomed or tossed + 3 products I'll be ridding myself of as soon as possible.

@MissMarmiladka I remember loving the Body Shop Banana Conditioner when I was at around APL-BSL, how are you finding it? I have a lot more porous ends nowadays so I find my hair has other needs than it used to, but I'm slightly tempted to put the Banana conditioner on my wish list again just because I remember loving it...
Speaking of, I've found far less goes into my stash when I keep a "curated" wish list, it's as if my urge to try new things is curbed a little bit just by putting it on the list

I can't remember when I last posted but I have a stash of non-hair toiletries as well as hair products (and hair toys - gradually getting through what I use and what I don't with those). My problem recently is trying and opening moisturisers and my skin rebelling before I ever get to finish it. So I'm going to make more of an effort to repurpose things if possible.
... looking around me, I have 19 different creams/moisturisers open - quite a few are sample sizes, thank goodness! But that's still pretty terrible - plus another 4 in the bathroom  stupid, stupid wretched skin :brickwall: My hands can take about half of them in moderation, whereas my face actively agrees with one and tolerates 2 or mayyybe 3 others used occasionally  Harrumph!
In the last 6 months or so I have finished:
500ml SBC Arnica shower cream
10ml lavender essential oil x2
15ml lavender EO
45g Lush Dream Cream
10g Lush Charity Pot cream
15g Hydrocortisone
30g Eumovate cream
I also used up 3x125ml Sukin moisturisers from my stash, before my skin became truly problematic (not sure how long ago but considerably longer than the past 6 months).

I've been challenging myself to use up my stash and not purchase anything new this year, so this is perfect! I did break my promise when I got a gift card for Bath and Body Works, but that was for body stuff, so I'm not going to list that. Here is what I used up since January 2020:
LUSH Big Shampoo
Alikay Naturals Co-Wash Me Conditioning Cleanser
VO5 Kiwi Lime Squeeze Conditioner
Garnier Fructis Nourishing One Minute Hair Mask w/ Coconut Extract
During the winter I co-wash during the week then clarify and hair mask once a week, so that's why I went through two co-washes and only one shampoo and mask. Now that it is summer I shampoo and condition every other day, so we'll see what kind of empties appear!

I don't have way too many products, but in the last month I almost bought unnecessary things and stopped at the last minute (thank god that online shopping means you can leave products in the basket and come later to order, if I was in an actual store I'd most probably bought the items because I feel pressured).
So this is my stash:
Shampoos:
L'Oreal Paris Total Repair 5 700 ml
L'Oreal Paris Dream Long 250 ml
Wash & Go 100% Volume 400 ml
As I Am Curl Clarity Shampoo 237 ml
Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Shampoo 384 ml
Conditioners:
L'Oreal Paris Dream Long 200 ml
L'Oreal Paris Total Repair 5 400 ml
Cantu Shea Butter Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream 355 ml
Hair masks:
L'Oreal Paris Dream Long 300 ml
L'Oreal Paris Extraordinary Oil with Jojoba Oil 300 ml
Leave-ins:
L'Oreal Paris Dream Long No Haircut Cream 200 ml
L'Oreal Paris Oil Luxury Double Elixir 200 ml
New Well Bioenergy Hair Oil 100 ml
Treatments:
Gerovital Petroleum Regenerating Lotion with Ricin Oil, Vitamins A and E 100 ml
I may get another hair oil because I really thought about it a lot, and its quite inexpensive, but I'll postpone that until I have to go to a store that has it. Other than that, I want to stay accountable and use the products that I already have before purchasing other things.

I finally finished the Cantu Shea Butter Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream, I had it for about a year now. So now I have:
Shampoos:
L'Oreal Paris Total Repair 5 700 ml
L'Oreal Paris Dream Long 250 ml
Wash & Go 100% Volume 400 ml
As I Am Curl Clarity Shampoo 237 ml
Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Shampoo 384 ml
Conditioners:
L'Oreal Paris Dream Long 200 ml
L'Oreal Paris Total Repair 5 400 ml
Hair masks:
L'Oreal Paris Dream Long 300 ml
L'Oreal Paris Extraordinary Oil with Jojoba Oil 300 ml
Leave-ins:
L'Oreal Paris Dream Long No Haircut Cream 200 ml
L'Oreal Paris Oil Luxury Double Elixir 200 ml
New Well Bioenergy Hair Oil 100 ml
Treatments:
Gerovital Petroleum Regenerating Lotion with Ricin Oil, Vitamins A and E 100 ml
Now I'm trying to use up my 700 ml shampoo, I've used about half of it. I should've never bought it, it's such a big bottle and I don't like it so much (not a bad shampoo, it's just not so nourishing as I'd like it to be).

I'm finally down to the point where I only have one extra silicone free conditioner, and no extra silicone conditioner! The rest of the categories do still have superfluous products... A small win for me though!

By the way, what are your goals with this challenge? I'm trying to minimalise all my belongings, and after tracking my haircare use I think I'll do well with
Coconut oil
Sulfate shampoo
Protein conditioner
Moisture conditioner
Silicone conditioner
Some sort of leave in for infrequent use and/or detangling, preferably in a small bottle
Heat protectant
I currently also have some curl products, but with this long hair they're not working for me. I'm undecided about chucking them out though.
And yes, it's not a minimal routine, but I've had so many random products that I don't use and duplicates of stuff I do use that it's all felt overwhelming,

My goal is first and foremost to use up some of this stash before it goes bad. I unfortunately tend to shop for self care stuff when I am stressed and ended up with waaay too much stuff. The hair stuff is worst because I also experience a lot of hair shed when I am stressed so then, of course, I want to try all the products to remedy it.
Number two goal is to figure out what I really need and don't need. I definitely don't need all these styling products. I will probably end up with:
cowash
clarifying shampoo
leave-in
gel
hairspray? I'm not even sure about that one.

My goal is to see how much I use, and what I don't use so that I won't buy again. I did stock up last winter, but I've got 4 bottles of conditioner in the bathroom, and three shampoo. I used to buy so many hair products and then just never use them. I've got several styling products that I'm trying to use up, and I already know what I don't plan to repurchase.

By the way, what are your goals with this challenge?
As you said, I want to cut down on my products. I want to have only one type of shampoo, conditioner and mask. I will continue to use coney leave ins/hair oils for the damaged parts of my hair, but, after cutting the dyed length, I may not need anything else. We'll see how my virgin hair will react to just a few products.

Today I finished a hair mask and a leave-in :). I am surprised at how long the products hold me, considering I wash hair everyday.
Shampoos:
L'Oreal Paris Total Repair 5 700 ml - there is still some shampoo left in this bottle. I do believe it magically refills itself, as some of you said previously .

Hair masks:
L'Oreal Paris Dream Long 300 ml
Leave-ins:
L'Oreal Paris Oil Luxury Double Elixir 200 ml
New Well Bioenergy Hair Oil 100 ml - I've had this oil for more than 1 and a half years and I still have about half of a bottle left. I don't like it, but I also can't throw it away, I feel bad if I buy something and I don't use it all.
Pantene Pro-V Argan Oil Therapy 100 ml - new purchase
Treatments:
Gerovital Petroleum Regenerating Lotion with Ricin Oil, Vitamins A and E 100 ml - I always buy a new bottle every month. I believe that this makes my baby hairs grow stronger (it's the first time in my life that those little hairs grew longer than 2 inches).

Used up my cone and my protein conditioners, and bought a replacement for each so there's not been much change. But I think I'm going to do a cleanout this weekend and chuck some stuff that has definitely gone way beyond the use-by date, but still works, but I'm not using... Like the Cassia. It was poor quality anyway.

75ml Boots Apple and Lime bubble bath (as shower gel)
150ml Garnier green tea face wash (my face used to like it, but I couldn't find a replacement and now my face doesn't like it anyway )
10ml Lush Softy foot cream sample (as face/hand moisturiser) - sadly discontinued
I'm still trying to use a hand cream with dimethicone once on most days to try to use them up but some days I just daren't do it. The eczema on my left hand was reaggravated by something (possibly my conditioner :() and it's really not happy, which is making it hard to use things up! My limbs are okay with infrequent silicone use, maybe I should start using them on elbows and knees once a week or so :hmm:
My goal is to reduce my stash to firstly only products that my skin/scalp/hair like, and ultimately to reduce it to one or two variants of each product (e.g. one moisturiser for face and body, one type of shower gel, one facial cleanser, etc. I don't mind having multiples of products that I know works well for me but I still have so many random toiletries from before my skin turned so picky, and from when I was desperately trying to find anything that my skin liked - including shampoos, from when my scalp pioneered the pickiness before the rest of my skin followed suit).

Wow, Dark40 you used a lot of cosmetics. I'm impressed. My hair, although long, doesn't absorb much of the product. It takes forever to finish one conditioner .

Carrie's hair, yes I know it is a lot of cosmetics I have used up over time. Well, some hair types don't absorb much product well sadly to say. I bet it does take forever to finish on conditioner
I always thought it took me a long time to finish using a conditioner but I've decided that hey...I've had some of these product for 5 or 10 years, and I gotta get rid of them before they lose their potential of working for me. I hope I'm using the right word, *potential?!* You really need to see my whole hair product stash. It is still HUGE! That's why I'm going through trying to get rid of products so that I can buy and try new products. ;)

And have maybe one treatment left of the herbal essences argan and aloe deep conditioner. I liked it. But didnt care for the smell.. Others might love it

Dark40 ha ha, I also have a lot of hair cosmetics, but probably not as much as you. Recently I have been thinking to take a picture of everything, but unfortunately I have some in another house. Btw, is there a "show all your cosmetics" thread somewhere?:eye:

Yesssss !!! That is my whole entire collection!!! I know, it's lot, and believe it or not when I was living in my other house I had a HUGER stash than that. I had 4 BIG boxes of hair cosmetics, and 4 medium size boxes of some more as well. When the movers were moving us they all said, "Dark40 must be trying to start a beautyship..lol" Yes, as far as taking a photograph of it I would have to take the boxes from under my bed, and I'll take a photo of what's under my cabinet as well.
P.S. You're welcome very much for the link to the thread.

That's good, but are you still buying new products? I decided to stick to only what works best. I also don't want to have multiple products from one category. A maximum of 2 conditioner is enough for me. If I need protein, I can add gelatin. So I probably forgive myself the purchase of a protein conditioner :o.
Dark40
November 6th, 2020, 12:49 PM
Yeah that is good. Well, sometimes I may splurge on a product that's new to me that I've never tried before, and I'll buy it but other than that I'm trying to use up what I have already. Then, I'll start all over again buying a new stash. I'm also sticking to what works best for me too. I don't switch all over the place on different products. Yeah, I know what you mean about forgiving yourself the purchase of a protein conditioner. My hair doesn't like too much protein. It likes moisture more. So, I have only 1 light protein/moisture balance conditioner, and 3 really good coney conditioners, and 2 good deep conditioners. That's enough for me.:o

You be surprised when you clean out your stash from under your cabinet or from under your bed what you really have in your stash! Oh yeah, I also remember Suave Clarifying Shampoo as well! Oh, I still have some of the old Head and Shoulders Shampoo (The one for oily hair), and I've had it for 20 years! Oh, I love Head and Shoulders Shampoos and Conditioners that they make these days! I've just bought some Head and Shoulders Smoothing Shampoo to go along with the Conditioner that I've had for 10 years, and never used until a month ago. I also have purple shampoo too! FINALLY got around to updating my lists
HAIR STASH -----
Sulfate free shampoos ----
- Probably won't be getting more in this category. For now, at least.
SLS shampoos --------------
- John Frieda Go Blonder shampoo
- N.A.E Shampoo bar repair
Conditioners -----------------
- John Frieda Go blonder conditioner
- Tresemmé Moisture rich conditioner
Treatments -------------------
- Olaplex No 3
- Garant Organic coconut oil, diy infused with herbs
Leave-ins ---------------------
- CCS Aloe vera gel
- Better You Argan oil (organic)
- Balmain Silk Perfume (silicone serum)
- Nuxe Huile Prodigeuse (natural serum)
Heat protectants ------------
- KMS ThermaShape
Styling products -------------
- Toni & Guy Volume Plumping Mousse
- Björn Axén Organic Texturizing Salt Water Spray
- Budgie Curl definer
I put all of these away in storage. I didn't get rid of them in case I ever decide to do a chop and rock short hair for awhile.
I'm working on using up olaplex, the oil and serum leave ins, and the shampoo bar which I only got because I was curious about how it works. The rest I actually only own one of each which has been my goal for a year or so (I think??) :D

My stash is almost gone now. I don't even have any holy grail's stashed up.
- I have seven single use hair masks, can pick one or two to take with me if I'm away from home.
- One mineral removing shampoo, one medical shampoo and one mild shampoo for regular washes (all HGs).
- Three conditioners, one that I'm using up and two HGs.
- Two cream leave-ins I doubt I'll manage to use before they expire (since my hair can't handle very much product). Eventually I'll probably need to re-purpose or bin them.
- One silicone serum leave-in that will take me years to finish (current one is not HG but silicone serum is a stable product for me and this one is okay, not in a hurry to get rid of it).
- One scalp scrub that I'll either use on my body or throw away, probably won't buy this again.
- One scalp lotion (HG) and one scalp tonic that I use irregularly.
- Three deep conditioners that I'll be using up (one is okay but has too strong scent, one is so light that I'll wait for summer to use it, one is all around pretty good but not HG).
- One half empty Olaplex No. 3 that I'll finish this month, and repurchase some time again when presented with a good deal (HG).
I'm counting 8 products that are not HGs or single use masks. I'm working on Nju Peach conditioner, Olaplex No. 3 treatment, L'Oreal Elvital Dream Length mask and Pantene Pro-V Hair biology Cleanse & Reconstruct mask right now. Garnier Respons The Restoring Honey Milk hair mask waits for summer. Scalp scrub, the two leave-ins and scalp tonic are bit of a mystery.
It would be sooo nice to buy a HG hair mask but I'm staying strong and using up Dream Length and Hair Biology masks first.

Thanks! :o I will probably always struggle a bit with leave-ins and masks... I love the idea of using leave-in(s) often but most don't seem to work for my hair or I use so little that I can't manage to use them up before expiration day. First of all I want to use up the remaining mask (Novex Coconut) and just stick to rinse out conditioners. As for leave-ins I wanted to try all LOL, but after a 1,5 year I think I just need one. The best I managed to find that is available around here and cheap is Nature Box avocado oil repair cream.
The shampoos and conditioners I like to rotate so I'm glad I have a few to chose. I decided the best way to get some new ones in the rotation will be "use two buy one" rule.
Begemot

Sounds like a solid plan, poli :) I also rotate shampoos and conditioners a bit so it's never as straight forward as just picking one shampoo, one conditioner, one mask etc. and using up those every wash. So this project definitely takes time!

Guys, I've run out of a category of product for the first time in over a year! Currently out of second conditioner. Go me!
I still have three serums, where my goal is to just have one, but they're like 10-30 ml each so it's been the category I've focused least on. So close to my goal of "one of each category" now!
I'm going to wait a bit with repurchasing the second conditioner, and use more serum instead. Not sure it will work, but I want to try at least.

I used up the John Frieda Go Blonder shampoo AND conditioner. No, it did not blur the demarkation between sun bleached hair and darker winter growth... And all in all would've been nice if I had ~BSL hair or so, underwhelming if you have WL+ I'd say. At least for me. Heavy for a regular product, not heavy enough if you have the type of tangle problems I have.
They were replaced with the full range of Hair Food Banana products, shampoo, conditioner and mask.
Still working on using up my serums, but it seems they are infinite.
So, this is the current stash --

Last month I used up NS scalp scrub, Olaplex No. 3 treatment and Dream Length mask. So Nju conditioner (for CWC) and Hair Biology mask (and maybe Honey milk mask) are next up.
I have Balea Mango milk leave-in lotion that I will try to use up. Garnier Aloe leave-in intimidates me since it's 400 ml and I don't believe I'll manage to use it all haha, not even half way through it yet. The only leave-in I have ever managed to use entirely was Bed Head's After-party and I kind of miss it a lot. I'm thinking about giving away everything else (3 products) and getting After-party... just thinking.
I'm not sure what I'll do with the scalp tonic since I'm sort of blaming it for couple of scalp pimples I got last month. I can't be sure if it was this product that caused them but I don't feel like using it, at least not right now.

I've been doing them for many years since the 1980's. I've always used a thick or a heavy grease like vasaline. Or, any grease you can find on the market, and when it's time to shampoo it out I just go through 2 washing cycles, and since I'm a frequent washer I shampoo daily anyway. So, all of the oils or grease comes out, and I don't have any issues. I remember telling this to one friend is she went, "Ew!!!!" "Gross!!" That's because she already had oily hair but her hair always appeared dry-looking to me, and that's because she was washing it everyday.

Vaseline? In your hair? Really? People do this? Yikes.
That was my thought too. I can hardly bare to use vaseline on my skin (I accept it prevents blisters for running, but the feeling on feet is eeww). No way would it go anywhere near my hair.
Doesn’t it just perpetuate the cycle of grease, remove oils and re-condition again.. I fail to see how that can be good for hair.

I used to think the same way too but yes, Vaseline! My aunt who is a beautician told me one time when she saw my damaged dry hair to either give myself a hot oil treatment with vaseline or I would have to cut it.

I also used to think the same way but my aunt who is a beautician suggested after seeing my damaged dry hair to give myself a hot oil treatment with it, and she was right. It really work wonders for your hair with giving it lots of moisture, and you don't have to use a whole lot. Just a little goes a long way, and after you apply the oil or vaseline to your hair and scalp you use a sulfate shampoo and do about 2 or 3 subsidings. Sometimes I only need to do 1 or 2 subsidings since I'm a frequent washer anyway. I wash my hair everyday. So, it didn't take no time for me to get all of the grease out.

I think Vaseline (petrolatum) is the "paste"-form of mineral oil (paraffinum liquidum) and some hair masks and whatnot use mineral oil as an ingredient with the same purpose as silicones  It wouldn't absorb into the hair I don't think but it could seal the cuticle layer I think, similar to other non-absorbing oils like sunflower oil
I wouldn't use either personally but that's 'cause I'm too lazy to faff around with any other oils than coconut haha

I use mineral oil, have done for years (not currently though) in my oil rinses. I just don't use it on my scalp. Couple drops (also the amount counts) will do, and it is very nice in fact.
I would, however, never put mineral oil on the scalp. A natural oil will wash out much easier than mineral oil will.

My stash just got organized better. Mom went through it, and she put the FIFO system in place anew (first in, first out). That just means the newly purchased stuff goes in the back or at the bottom. It had been a while since we had had another chance to get to the bottom of the boxes to switch it all out & around.
Discovered I had another Pantene Clarifying shampoo, 400ml (discontinued), and some Palmolive "anti-klit spoeling" (that just means anti-tangle rinse, it's not a bad word spelled differently ;)). And 3 bottles no less. That was such a major staple years ago for long hairs here in Belgium & The Netherlands. It is silicone free but it takes out tangles like you won't believe!!! It was loved by everyone, all around!
Also discovered I had an (old) Inecto conditioner still floating around here. Not such a great one, in my experience. But I'll use it!
So yes, we switched things around and I shopped my stash.
It's fun to just get to pick whatever you want from a pile of things, but... I have said it before. I am going to be taking a look at this stash before I go out grocery shopping. Especially if things are on sale! I will only buy stuff on deep deep sale, and if it's an additional % off just because no one wants it at the store and it's the last one left. Sometimes that happens. Then I can hardly pass it up, right? ;) :p I usually don't!
But yes, so much fun! New stuff to use on wash day. :cheer:

I managed to time my shampoo, conditioner and hair mask so that they ran out AT THE SAME TIME today  *mind blown* First used up products of the year!
Shampoos -------------------
Garnier Fructis Hair Food Banana shampoo 350 ml - - SLS and quite stripping, at the same time loaded up with conditioning ingredients so the hair felt conditioned with slip afterwards. 98% "natural" but no real certifications.
Conditioners -----------------
Garnier Fructis Hair Food Banana conditioner 350 ml - lighter than the hair mask but since I need heavy products this doesn't really have a purpose in my haircare routine. Good for anyone who needs a "fairly" heavy cone-free conditioner. 98% "natural" but no real certifications.
Treatments -------------------
Garnier Fructis Hair Food Banana hair mask 390 ml - quite good for a cone-free deep treatment! Smells very banana. "98% natural" but no real certifications.

Project Use it Up
I did this years ago and swore never to end up in the same position… but here we are again. So many of these have been gifts that I haven’t used up yet, and I’m terrible for getting half way through something and then swapping to something else.
It was really cathartic to create an inventory of all the stuff to use up – it’s going to be even more satisfying ticking it all off! This is a long list!

* Faith in Nature Watermelon, 400ml.

Generally it's for curlies originating in Brazil I think it's like a course of products used for repair, moisture and norishment. Which is basically what we need to keep our hair nice

1x 75ml Umberto Giannini Grow Serum
1x 175ml Umberto Giannini Grow Long+Smooth wonder blow dry Spray
I don't have the energy to list my skincare right now, but maybe I'll do it in the near future because I feel like I also have more than I need in that area too.
I think I don't plan to make my list as minimal as others here, but still it'll be a lot smaller compared to what I have right now.
My goals are:
- Main goal is to keep a "one-in, one-out" rule, so no buying new products until I finish another one.
Then having:
1x Shampoo and Conditioner
1x Chelating/Anti-dandruff shampoo (I'm still trying to figure out if my scalp is just very sensitive to build up, or I really need medicated shampoos)
2x Masks
2x Oils
3x Styling Products (1x curling cream/leave-in, 1x mouse and 1x gel)

I knooow right! I was looking over my list and I have waaaay more shampoo than conditioner on there too! I’m gonna have to buy conditioner without the matching shampoo! - though, side note, I probably will in future anyway, for my oily hair I want a richer conditioner with a lighter shampoo ..

Wow, your stash is pretty much my goal!
I don't have that problem with conditioners here, both bottles are usually the same size but I still use more conditioner than shampoo. What I've been doing lately is shampooing twice, and that way I can finish both bottles more or less at the same time.

I managed to finish off my product hoard over 2019 and 2020, except for the oils, but it probably took me a year and a half! Now it's a strict one in one out!
I'm considering buying one shampoo and two conditioner bottles, e.g. 250 ml shampoo and 200 + 200 ml conditioner if I continue with my current products. For 2020 I used up 2.3 litres shampoo and 4.8 litres conditioner. Actually one shampoo and THREE conditioners is probably closer to the same ratio I had in 2020

New update to my stash :eyebrows:
1. Bought doubles of the shampoo and conditioner I''m using because they were on sale! (Also: small bottles).
2. Started using the hair food macadamia mask and am loving it, even though I really miss the perfume of the banana mask.
3. I put the heat protectant in the leave-in section instead because I'm sort of using it as a "spray on serum". It gives great slip!
4. I ran out of the Balmain hairfume finally, after two or three years. Now working on the Nuxe oil instead.
5. I bleached my front bangs/fringe with two different box bleaches. It looks decent for being a complete beginner!

I've added a lot to my stash lately, though i'm in happy equilibrium so I'm not really "using up" my stash as much as I employ an 1-in-1-out policy
- I've been stocking up on my shampoo and conditioner since they come in fairly small bottles and I keep finding them on sale at random places lol (I'm allowing myself this as long as I have space)
- I repurposed the argan oil as a face moisturiser (1 out!)
- I rebought the Nuxe huile prodigieuse hair oil because it's just sooo good and lasts for years (1 in!)
- I bought the Elvital extraordinary oil rapid reviver because my hair food mask is about to run out soon (1 in and 1 about to be out!)

I made a dent in my stash since I last counted :cheese:
So right now I own 4 shampoos (1 almost finished), 4 conditioners, 2 leave-ins and a hair oil. I have shampoo for years LOL
Not tempted right now to repurchase any masks or conditioners, they are all pretty full. Maybe I will do it at the end of the summer, weather change usually prompts me to change products. Good luck all!

Hey Dark, I'm curious what colour that turns out on you after your relaxing, that I think I saw you recently did?
I finally used up a litre of PM Tea Tree shampoo that I've been working on since about the dawn of man.

I finished my tub of Panacea by Nightshade today, will definitely replace it when I work through my stash a little more. Gave away a bunch of products I had been holding on to as well as tossed a few things in the trash but I'm only going to list the ones I use up personally. My mom loves it when I go through my stash and pass things to her that I'm tired of/don't work for me.
