Used up a peach and nutoil conditioner (perzik- en notenolie in Dutch) from Garnier Ultra Doux, and another Herbal Essences Hello Hydration conditioner (hate to see that go, 'cause it's so good for tangles).

If anything else gets used up, I'll mention it here (instead of listing my stash (shamefully can't be done, it's too long of a list)).

Doubt that I have as many hair care products as most of the others here... which doesn't mean there's not more than enough to use up before buying anything new.
Now for my current list:
Balea Kids "Dusche&Shampoo" - almost full
Alverde conditioner (green coffee and something else) - 3/4 left
Lush Jumping Juniper shampoo bar - a 1/4" thick slice left
Lush Big (solid conditioner) - barely touched
Guhl shampoo ("prachtvoll lang" as far as I remember) - half the bottle left
Herbal Essences Naked Shine conditioner - barely touched

There probably still are some products not on the list. You know... the problem is that I don't live in just one home. Which makes it hard (if not impossible) to know what I have and what not.

I'll join, even if I don't have a lot of products. So here's my list:

-1 bottle of Timotei Pure conditioner

-1 bottle of banana conditioner from The Body Shop

-1 bottle of coconut oil from The Body Shop

-1 small bottle or argan oil

-1 bottle of ACV

-Juniper and Aloe Vera mask from NaturVital.

And that's it! I want to finish with the Timotei conditioner, and buy the Radhe Shyam Balsam conditioner with henna. It is my all-time favourite, but I must finish with the other bottles of conditioner first! :p

Lol I caved and bought two Suave Naturals conditioners... But they were on sale for 99 cents! And it's one of the rarer scents that I love! And I'm challenging myself to do CO for the rest of the month (my hair loves it but I've been lazy and doing s/c) to use up some of my conditioners as that's the biggest bulk of my hoard- I mean stash. ;)

Hi! :)

I think it's time to join the thread. Let's make an inventory (hope to remember most of stuff, because of the move, majority of it is in the new place, but anyway I'll edit the list later if needed.) So:

Shampoo:
Handmade soap/shampoo bar

Styling:

Oil:
Jojoba Oil
Broccoli Oil
Argan Seed Oil
Burdock Oil

Other:
Sunsilk Silk Drops (silicone)
Soap Nuts

Update! :D
I'm both failing and succeeding at this challenge... as I've given away, thrown away, used up and BOUGHT more stuff. Ugh.

Threw away:
Suave coconut conditioner with lavender eo mixed in for scent... still couldn't stand the scent and knew it would make me dread showering...
Nature's Gate Pomegranate Sunflower Shampoo... I used it today and it made my hair feel so awful...
Arm & Hammer Essentials Fresh Deodorant: I have come to accept I sweat to much to go the non-antiperspirant route.

Gave Away:
Dove Go Fresh Cool Moisture bar soap, I just put it in my parent's bathroom as they use anything. I *love* the smell but it makes my skin break out (yay eczema)

Used Up:
Aquafresh Toothpaste

Bought:
Apricot Oil
Sweet Almond Oil
Herbal Essences De-Damage Boost Conditioner (gonna use this as a deep conditioner, I love the smell)
some sample size sprays from Bath and Body Works since they're discontinuing MY FAVORITE SCENT EVER... :( but also it makes my allergies go nuts as much as I love it... Hoping to find something to replace it

My ultimate goal is to have one shampoo, two conditioners (regular/deep), one oil, (maybe one lotion as well), one soap, and one makeup kit (not a problem, I'm not a huge makeup person). I want to be able to move out and put all my cosmetics in one bag comfortably and to not waste money on products I don't need, or that don't work for me, ever again. Plus I feel bad having a buncha junk everywhere. I need to de-clutter my life in general.

I just went through my drawers and found three more bath and body works lotions... And two body creams... And 2 hand sanitizers. UGH. The creams and hand sanitizers I had bought as Christmas gifts for other people but never saw them... So I kept them to give them to them later but still haven't done it, plus one is a discontinued one so they'd know it's been sitting in my drawer for a year now... Lol. I have a full size lotion that I'd used maybe 3 times, I tried to slather some on the other day but unfortunately I no longer like the smell and it nearly makes my eyes burn to smell it... It is a lovely fragrance and I'm mad to have spent so much money on it though (even though I use coupons, those things aren't cheap I tell ya!). I also have a travel size summer scent that reminds me of tanning lotion mixed with pineapple and coconut (ew). Lastly I found my little 2 oz container of rio rumberry, the only summer scent I ever liked :) I might ask my mom and sister and my friend to see if they want the barely used full size and travel size ones. I feel terrible to have wasted so much money... But now that my skin is *completely* breakout free for the moment I don't want to mess it up with scented lotions, especially if I don't like the scent that much.

Ooh, I should be here. I'm trying to simplify the routine and have less bottles.

shampoo, liquid
Shikai everyday, 1/2 gal refills bottle in shower. This is the baseline I'd keep.
Vanart green, thick don't dare use it regularly. 25 oz or so bottle, mostly full. Clairifier.
TJ's triple treat knock off. Shared with partner. It's his main shampoo. SLS free, works as clarifier if it isn't too bad.

Shampoo, solid, including soap based bars
Pamela's Soap, six or seven bars. Soap formula used on hair and body
Aquarian Bath, two bars.
Lush Trictomania. Bits of bars. I need to melt these into travel sized dollops. That's what it is best for. It is SLS, so no acidic rinse needed.

Conditioners, liquid
Getting better here.
365 Everyday conditioner unscented, 32 oz pump. I honestly could use just this.
Kirkland moisture 32 oz pump. This is the coney conditioner. Used only on last six-seven inches.
I'm happy with those two.
kiss my Face conditioner lime 23 oz pump. This is being used with body scrubs. It's light, smells good and doesn't do a thing for my hair.
Random bottle of thinned conditioner, likely the last of TJ's Refresh citrus. Dear Trader Joes, quit discontinuing my favorites.

Conditioner, solid
Under control. I have samples and a bar or two. All stay in the travel bin.

Oils
Argan, two bottles, both above half. Winter will change that.
Triple moon anointing oil, right at half.
Random partial bottles, avocado, almond, jojoba.

Coconut and olive snagged from kitchen as needed. Not an issue here.

Other
Alba Hawaiian deep conditioner, last third. Nice to have. Nice smell. Not priority on replacement. An SMT does the same with ingredients I have.
Coney shine spray. Great for sealing ends of hair and allowing occasional wearing down. Almost full bottle. I'd keep this and be rid of the deep conditioner.
Two packets of deep conditioner. Impulse buys. One, Giovanni, is fabulous. I've had it before.
Tube of aloe Vera gel

Goal
Not acquire more. Find what works and in what combo.
Fewer bottles.
Use up drips and dabs.
Streamline hair care.

Glad to see everyone doing well!! Question: I have half a bottle of antibacterial body wash I had to use when I got this crazy virus back in summer. I used it until it went away (about a month and a half) but I'm not really wanting to use it now as antibiotic resistance scares me to death. However since I used it for a month I'm wondering if it'd even be an issue now as whatever is on my body had been subject to it for that long...

I'm joining this challenge. I'm looking at some almost-empty and nearly-full bottles in the shower while contemplating buying new stuff. I recently bought a lot of stuff and changed my routine, now I need to stick to it before I change again.

Shampoos
Dr. Organic Aloë vera (nearly finished)
Dr. Organic Virgin olive oil (1/3)
Dr. Organic Morroccan argan oil (4/5)
Fuente herbal wellness (nearly full)
Aussie frizz miracle (nearly full, last SLS/SLES I bought over a year ago)

Soap bar
Aleppo (new)

Conditioners
Dr. Organic Aloë vera (nealy finished)
Dr. Organic Virgin olive oil (1/4)
Dr. Organic Morrocan argan oil (nearly full)
Fuente anti aging wellness Mask

Oils
Coconut oil (hardly used)
Almond oil (hardly used)
Argan oil (new)
Castor oil (new)

Other
Dr. Organic serum (Coney and hardly used)
Raw honey (nearly full and yes, it's in my bathroom)
Sheabutter (new)

It's not too bad, but now I have a reason to finish off those nearly empty bottles and not buy new stuff before I'm through with the stuff I have.

Update!
I finally finished my Pantene Beautiful Lengths conditioner! I'm doing WCC to use up a lot of conditioners as I seem to collect those (and lotions, OMG) the most. I have 40 days left until graduation, and if I find a full time job by then, I'm going to be moving out (YAYYY) so I have about that long to really try to cut down my stash! This week I'm focusing on Aussie 3 minute miracle strong deep conditioner, and Matrix biolage conditioning balm. I'm also still working on the tokyo lotus and apple blossom shower gel.

On the makeup front, I have to go buy some mascara on my next paycheck as my sister used mine. I'm donating the lipsticks as I don't ever use them. I did buy some Nivea creme (thanks Lapushka for the reference!) which is making my face feel awesome. I'm going to use the other lotions on my body for now. At this point I'm pretty sure I could take a bath made of lotion (which my skin would probably love). It's just now starting to get chilly around here, which will help me use up more of them I hope.

Adding Herbal Essences Naked Cleansing Conditioner

ArienEllariel
November 9th, 2014, 06:55 PM
I'm working through an old bottle of suave coconut shampoo, I vary my shampoos anyways lately, so why not add one to the mix? And I'm rotating through 3 different conditioners, however I feel like there is probably some lonely bottle of condish that's hiding in my closet.. I'll have to check so I can add it to my list of things to use up.

There are several Bath and Bodyworks products that are slowly making their way towards being used up. My family always seems to give me MORE when Christmastime rolls around, though I'm not a huge fan... and it takes me forever to use it up. I repurposed a bubble bath after it was far enough used up. It is now watered down to be used as hand soap.

amanda_the_tall
November 10th, 2014, 02:54 PM
Arienellariel I'm glad you mentioned using them as handsoap. I was just wondering what to do with the little bits I have left as I finally broke out from all the fragrance use. *sigh* so I am going to mix some of the body wash in with my handsoap (it's the same scent) so that way it won't go to waste!!

So I have these body sprays I ordered from b&bw. I lost my receipt because I ordered online. Fortunately I got the travel sizes, as they're ok, but not how I expected. Has anyone tried mixing body sprays with stuff? As in could I maybe use it to scent conditioner? Or lotion? I'm trying to think of a way to use them, because they don't last at all on clothes or skin...

I'm doing good with my stash reduction. I have one leave in conditioner to go and I will have only one of each thing (Shampoo, conditioner, leave in). Oils I have : Argan, coconut, castor and apricot kernel and I'm about to finish that last one.

I do have a lot of essential oils to use up and I'm not sure where. I don't do aromatherapy really. I have a burner for such things but most times I'm too busy to set that up. I do some hair oils with them but not nearly enough. I've resorted to making some home made poopouri to use some of them up. Any other suggestions?

I was thinking about this earlier too. Just found out I have a stash of EOs in the bathroom cabinet.

Besides using them in homemade facial masks, I thought of mixing some in a carrier oil like coconut and using that as a body moisturiser.

Hmm.. I haven't done home made masks in a while as got batch of sheet masks somewhat recently and didn't care if my skin peeled off and rotted or not before that (work stress). Might start using some if I make mixes. Thanks for that idea!

I use pure coconut oil after baths and like the coconut scent of that and don't usually use a body moisturizer otherwise so that's out. I don't like perfumes either. Herm...

I hadn't thought of that! Ooh, I might use it as a car/bathroom spray! :D Thanks for the suggestion! I think this thread is one of my favorites. It helps me save money (somewhat) by using up my products and keeping track of what I already have. Only bump I've come across is using up this toothpaste I bought on clearance a while back, it doesn't seem to get my teeth as clean as my old kind. But I have two containers of it, so I have to use them. Hopefully the other flavor will feel more 'clean'.

It seems like I have been doing that more & more with Avon and Bath & Body Works Body Sprays. Bath & Body Works especially changed their scents in recent years and I find they are much harder to tolerate, but they are fine as room sprays. Yet those coupons are tempting sometimes! Hope the room spray idea works for you too!

Toothpaste is one of those things you are stuck with, and it feels like elves are constantly coming in the middle of the night to refill it since it takes forever to use up. But here's a list of things you could do with it if you really hate it. Maybe clean the headlights of your car or something if you want to get rid of it:
http://consumerist.com/2010/11/18/34-uses-for-toothpaste-outside-of-your-mouth/

For essential oil ideas, you can put a drop on a light bulb and when you turn the light on and the light bulb heats up, the scent fills the room. You can also put a couple of drops in the toilet for bathroom odors. The mint and citrus ones work well for this. More economical than spending money on "Poo pourri".

I also have used stuffed up, added to my stash and given stuff away. I must forbid myself from buying any more leave ins or serums, since there are only 2 that I like and ever seem to really use. However, if I find any Herbal Essences Drama Clean conditioner, I will have to buy a bottle to match the shampoo I have. Clairol apparently had a brain fart and discontinued Drama Clean :(

I like this formula too & use it as a room spray. The glycerin really helps the scent to linger a little longer. For a while there I was buying Zum mists, but their prices have gone up a lot so I saved the bottles & use that combo. Very nice!

I keep getting tempted to add stuff to my stash... I used some of the Chagrin Valley whipped cocoa butter on my face and it is heavenly... I want to buy more so I don't run out, but I have literally a drawer full of lotions. I also am tempted buy her soaps as my eczema is flared and I'd like the idea of using something more natural and soothing than my current bar soap, even though it does a fantastic job on its own. *sigh* Coat with steroid ointment, use up current stash, maybe buy some later for my birthday (only 9 days away now!) or get someone to gift me some for Christmas...

Really proud of myself! Since my last update I have been getting down to it in downsizing my stash and I am quite pleased with the results.

Kiehl's Sunflower Color Preserving Shampoo - Gifted to my brother. He likes it much better than I do.
A'kin Rosemary Shampoo - Finished
Avalon Organics Shine Shampoo - Finished
Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat - Finished
Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose - Finished
Australian Organics Revitalising Penetrating Conditioner - Finished
It's a 10 Miracle Leave-in Product - Swapped

New product - Ikarov Hair Stimulant

I have a lot of products that have just been sitting around because they didn't work for my hair. I find that using them in other ways helps in not letting them go to waste. Eg. using conditioner as a shaving cream, shampoo as body wash etc. etc.

Nice going, milque.

I'm getting my head around using stuff in another way, too. It will help getting the staan down.

I finished one bottle of conditioner last week. I used the last bit of the dr. Organic aloe vera in my first SMT. As it had the smallest number of ingredients, I thought it would be a good one to try. I'm glad it's gone now.

I thought I had a huge stash of products, but in comparison to some of the lists I see here, I'm a serious underachiever!

I have 4 bottles of Suave Naturals Coconut Conditioner
1 Bottle of AO Biotin Conditioner (that I really don't like)
3 bottles of Aubrey GPB (also not working for me so well anymore but I adore the smell)
1 bottle of Garnier Fructis something or other that is so smelly I can't use it (that one might just get tossed)

That's it.

I'm working on the AO Biotin condish now. Can't wait to be done with it.

I'm down to half a bottle of Eucerin lotion! I only have to use 7 or 8 pumps of it each time I use it, so it's going to take a while to finish. I'm scraping the sides of my whipped cocoa butter, and finished a container of apricot kernel oil. I have about half a bottle of shampoo left (I think my sister drinks shampoo.... I left it in the shower by accident a couple of times and I only use about two quarters worth each time I use it, and haven't used it that much). I've gotten down to two half used bars of Dove unscented bar soap, and one travel size of lavender vanilla body wash... and I ordered some soap and shampoo bar samples from Chagrin Valley. Still working on using lotions...

*sigh* I really need to learn to just buy what I need and then run out of the store. I went to the store yesterday for razors then saw a pink box that caught my eye above them. It was a soap and it said "naturally moisturizing" and "vanilla with pink orchid and patchouli". I sniffed it and was like "maybe this is the cure for needing a gentle sulfate free soap for my eczema, but not liking the glue scent of my regular unscented soap". I tried it today, and dry tight skin resulted. Compared it to my dove and could definitely feel the dove was way more moisturizing. Ugh. At least it was less than $2, and I only bought one even though if you bought more it'd be cheaper (4 for $3). It smells so good though!! I wonder if there's a way to liquify it and mix some oils in with it as a body wash....

Used up a Garnier Ultra Doux "met plantaardige melk" ("with plant-like milk" is as good a translation as you're gonna get). It was the last of my bottles and you can't get this type of conditioner anymore. Garnier Ultra Doux conditioners are quite runny and I hate that. Never buying them again, but do have some others I need to use up.

Also, my "bucket" of Eco Styler gel (it's the largest container they do) is almost gone. Yay. Will be telling you when it's empty. I have another one ready to go already. ;) Don't say I'm not prepared. ;) :p

One of my Dove soaps is gone! It's not really gone, but it's the tiniest sliver left that I won't be able to use without breaking it and it ending up in the shower floor. I'm currently using one of my CV soaps. I also added to my stash Trader Joe's tea tree tingle shampoo and conditioner. It smells glorious, but I don't get any tingly feeling except for on my neck when I leave in the conditioner during the shower. I think it *might* end up being my HG shampoo/conditioner, I really like the nice ingredients it has. My other sulfate free shampoo/conditioner made my face/neck/ ears break out in cystic acne. I might try returning it for store credit at my work, as I bought it from CVS, just a different store location. Overall my stash is shrinking, slowly but surely! I'm getting really good about using lotion like I'm supposed to, because of this challenge. :)

I really like it! I don't have acne (usually) other than the occasional pimple around my period. The past two weeks or so when I switched to a "new" shampoo/conditioner is when I started getting the bumps in my hairline and behind ears and on the chest which I hadn't had in years. Granted a. I was switched to name brand on one of my medications this month (birth control), and b. am under a load of stress from finals and graduating (if I pass finals) so it could be any combination of all of these. However i washed part of my face (forehead where I'm really broken out) with the the shampoo just to see what would happen and it is smoother/less inflamed today. I have a bad habit of scratching at bumps though as I have dry skin also but *so far* I think it is helping, or at least I haven't had any new bumps appear.
Also I have super sensitive skin (like having to use steroids a good bit) and so far it hasn't aggravated that either!

Almost done with my apricot kernel oil, using the last of that in the castor oil pre-wash mix. Working my way through the rosehip oil for face. Coconut oil is being used for body.

I have some V05 conditioner that I started alternating with the Russian conditioner, to have less bottles around. Also now that it's dry inside I've started using more nivea cream on the dry spots to use that up.

Switching to WCC for my skin is making it happy! I wash then put on sweet almond oil, (or bath and body works lavender vanilla oil if I want to smell awesome) then layer on eucerin lotion on top of that. Haven't bought any new lotions (though I'm tempted) but also bought a foundation I've been eying for months, it was 40% off and then I bought a blush for 75% off. My face is peeling from dryness and the foundation is powder so it doesn't look so great but it covers the redness well so I'm ok with it! Also merry Christmas and happy holidays fellow de-stashers!

For all the hair junkies out there! whether are oils, conditioners, treatments,or even hair toys! we know we have to stop buyin stuff for our hair :p
Personally,im going to officially start this challenge in 2 weeks when we're finally done with some stuff in the house.
Till then ill have one chance to restock on staples/favorates or just something i have been craving to buy lol.
after that, this challenge should go on till the end of the year with buying absolutely nothing for my hair, with the exception of only one time to restock a really needed product during this period.
you can post a list of all the items you have here and edit it through out the challenge.
if something is really not working for you,we can use our stash to swap products with each other, and so preventing waste and further spending.
you can also post your adjusted regimens to try to finish up your products more (e.g more deepconditioning/oil soaks/cowashing etc)
you can also use this challenge to include beauty items in general (make up,face creams, body lotions.perfumes watever addiction you have lol:p)
So Who is with me??

This is such a good idea. I have so many products that I need to finish using. I can't even name them all. Other than buying conditioner and apple cider vinegar throughout the year i'm in!

I'm trying to decide if I want to try to use up my lotion hoard, or donate them. Using them up *would* save money for now, but the scented ones are likely to make my eczema go crazy, so I'd have to spend more money on prescription steroid ointment to keep that in check... I want to hit my past self for ignoring my dermatologist's advice and thinking I could buy scented stuff and get away with it...

Thinned conditioner is a use or two away from gone.
Kirkland is starting to feel light, maybe at one third. Still need to decide between that or cone serum. No good reason to have both. I barely use the serum, but love it when I do. It's a great weight to lay down new growth hairs.

Two soap bars have been used up. However, I got two in a swap. Static.

In shower, I have Shikai shampoo, one shampoo bar, half a soap bar, two bottles of conditioner.
Back stock is clarifying shampoo, the rest of the bars (won't need to buy until fall, I think), kiss my face conditioner (which might get made into a leave in spray), Shikai half gallon.

Oils are the same.
The alba organics conditioner ran out, partner thought it would be a great gift. So, I have 3/4 of a tub.

Gone:
One bottle of thinned conditioner. (In a couple washes)
Two bars of soap

Need to use up/repurpose
KMF conditioner (just put away the 365 and use this up to be done with it?)
Alba deep conditioning tub (keep tub to mix my own smt from existing stash)

I absolutely love Kirkland shampoo and conditioner! I use the shampoo totally watered down but the cream rinse, in gobs and gobs! I have heard that this is the generic for Pureology brand! I matched up the ingredients and they are very similar. Anyways, at 7.49 for a liter size bottle, I stock up on these!! Love this! I am a coney girl and my hair need them! Yes I have a true dependency on cones! :alcoholic:

I've been thinking about doing this for some time now, as my hair care shelf in the bathroom is getting a little crowded. It's possible that I give some of the products away if I don't like/use them. I accept buying more if something really good is on sale, though. Now, enjoy long product names.

Shampoo:
Schwarzkopf Essensity Color and Repair 250 ml (main shampoo at the moment, opaque bottle, but I guess half full)
Schwarzkopf Bonacure Smooth Perfect 200 ml (3/4)
Garnier Ultra Doux 5 plants 250 ml (3/4, I use it only rarely when I need a stronger shampoo)
and one other shampoo with caffeine that's a little less than half full (250 ml)
Herbina dry shampoo, sensitive 200 ml (new)

Conditioner:
Davines Alchemic Red 250 ml (2/3)
Davines Love Lovely Smoothing 250 ml (1/3)
Schwarzkopf Essensity Color and Repair 200 ml (nearly gone)
Schwarzkopf Bonacure Smooth Perfect 250 ml (mostly full)
Nivea Diamond Gloss 200 ml (1/4)
Inebrya Ice Cream Dry-T 100 ml (1/3)
Avalon Organics Awapuhi Mango (1/4, doesn't work well with hard water here)

Masks:
Schwarzkopf Bonacure Smooth Booster 200 ml (mostly full)
Schwarzkopf Essensity Color and Repair 200 ml (2/3)
Alter Ego Krystal Milk Smooth Booster 1 litre (mostly full)
Davines Finest Gloss 280 ml (1/2+)

Leave-ins, serums:
Prosalon Argan Oil Gold Serum 100 ml (3/4)
Schwarzkopf Bonacure Oil Miracle Rose Oil 2x5 ml (mostly full)
Schwarzkopf Bonacure Oil Miracle Light finishing treatment 100 ml (1/3)
Schwarzkopf Osis+ Glamination Prime prep spray 200 ml (full)
Schwarzkopf Osis+ Glamination Smooth polish elixir 75 ml (full)
Hairwonder hair repair cream 100 ml (mostly full)
Nivea Gold Explosion mousse 150 ml (1/2)
Wellaflex ultra strong hold mousse 200 ml (mostly full)

Color:
Alter Ego Passion Fruits Color Conditioner Mirtillo 300 ml (new)
two toning conditioners to be given away

I'm not counting all the oils, mixes, infusions and diluted sprays, but I'd rather they last anyway.

I added, a BUNCH. But I used coupons and sales and got a lot of stuff for cheap, and I won't need to buy anything for a while now.
Adding to stash:
Pantene anti-breakage shampoo & conditioner
Dove unscented body wash
Softsoap heavenly vanilla body butter wash (smells good, but too strong, gonna use this up quickly, even though it makes my skin noticeably softer)
Venus Razor
Satin Care shave gel
Almay unscented gel deodorant
Secret Outlast deodorants X 2

I also bought two containers of sunscreen but I anticipate they'll be used up on our upcoming vacation.
I think I'm going to have to donate my Nivea creme, as much as I love it, because the smell is so strong. It wasn't that bad before, but last night I put it on and almost couldn't sleep because it smelled so much. I'm hoping to switch to mostly fragrance free stuff (minus shampoo/conditioner, because it's pricey and what I use now is ok) I'm testing out Almay unscented antiperspirant right now since it said its active ingredient is the same as another "clinical strength" brand, so I'm hoping I can just use that then add the scent of the Secret brand for when it gets really hot out.

Yesterday I found a use for that Guhl conditioner I don't like (apart from adding silicones it does nothing for my hair): I have no clue why I had this idea but it worked! Normally I get a rash when I shave my legs and it burns pretty bad but yesterday after shaving my legs I put on some of the conditioner, let it sit for 1 minute and rinsed it off. My legs are perfectly well! I'm so happy right now :hollie:

Finished another conditioner (an old one). The "Vitala" conditioner by Kruidvat own brand (300ml), for dry and brittle hair. Kruidvat is a Dutch chain. I thought it wasn't that bad, but it wasn't very moisturizing OTOH. It contained MO, and most of the time it moisturizes my hair properly. But oh well: it's gone!

I've been struggling with this for as long as I can remember. Of course, it certainly didn't help that I worked in retail forever so I always came home with an excess amount of products I didn't need. My biggest vice is cosmetics (fragrances, makeup, body care, etc.) since I worked at a makeup counter for nearly 3 years - I think I have enough makeup to last for several lifetimes and there's no way I'm going to be able to use all of it up before it expires! What has helped me (besides quitting that job) is giving a lot of freebies to my mother since she has a tendency to over-use products, but at least this way, someone's using them up!

I do, however, have a drawer full of perfumes - I want to estimate 40+ at this time! Sad thing is that I only ever wear it for special occasions (which, there aren't very many) and I normally only switch between 2. And, I have an abundance of lotions - I normally go between 6 different scents at the moment because I like to coordinate them with my body washes. Again, I have a problem.

I've gotten much better at hair care products since I've found the specific ones that work best for me, otherwise, I was purchasing something new to try every week - a very expensive bad habit! Now, I have 3 different shampoos I switch between - depending on if my hair is feeling dry/fluffy, normal, or oily, 2 conditioners - regular and deep, and only 1 treatment/leave-in. All in all, that's a huge improvement compared to my 30 different products I was using several years ago!

Skin care is pretty normal, too. One face wash (although, I'm almost out so I am switching to a new one), one face scrub, one toner, and one moisturizer - nothing too interesting. I do have a ton of face masks, though - only because I like to experiment and try different things.

Like I said, I have gotten better because I'm not purchasing anything new just because it catches my eye, I'm only replacing products I especially like and need to have.

Ok time for an ultimate update: with pictures!
This is really embarrassing but I love looking at pictures of people's stuff. Please ignore the grossness that is my shower...

First off: what's in my shower right now:

Unpictured: oils, too many photos in this post. I have a nearly full container of coconut oil, and a half full container of sweet almond oil. Love oils for skin!

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=15890&d=1423769867

So at this point I'm like "yeah.. that ain't so bad, the vo5 is gonna replace the trader joe's conditioner since it's nearly gone, and the pantene is almost gone, and the herbal essences is halfway empty"

well.. uh... there's more.. *facepalm*

What I keep on my dresser:
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=15891&d=1423769877

(plus two full size body sprays, partially pictured)

Recently purchased body butters/ lotion acquired from my sister (she legit hadn't used it in two years, at least):
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=15892&d=1423769888

My skincare drawer (where I keep the extra lotions):
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=15893&d=1423769897

BUT THEN, there is the shower caddy that I use to hide stuff... (my sister won't buy her own stuff, and will use anything she can get her hands on... and use it up)

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=15894&d=1423769907

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=15897&d=1423769935

What's even more dumb is... I have another (3 ounce! not too bad! and limited addition!) body wash ordered... with 2 bath bombs and a bath melt from Lush. I've never tried their stuff, and don't have anything like them, so I cheated and added to the stash. But I definitely won't be adding to the stash for a while as now I have some expenses coming up... Only thing I might have to buy is deodorant but not for a while as I have two right now.

Lol. True, but I need to bring down my overall stash... As one can see I have a lotion problem lol. And a soap problem. When your skin lets you only use one soap for years you get excited and buy a lot when you try and think (note, think) it will be tolerable of fragrance/sulfates again. Sigh. Could be worse. I am getting to the bottom of the stash! I will need to buy shampoo in July (-: and conditioner before then.

And I have only the current in use face creams and by using the bath oil and slathering on the body creams I am even making headway with them. Run out in September I think. I am bathing at odd times, very early or very late on weekends before or after the little one needs me and that's now diminishing the ranks of bath goodies.

I will come back and update, but after our move.

It takes a lot longer now to finish products as I wash only every fourth day. My current shampoos and conditioners are nearly running out though, so I need to think about a new brand. Dr. Organic doesn't really make me happy.
I might try my cheap and simple SLS shampoo for a while, just to see how my scalp likes it. I would need a very good conditioner with that, I think.

I love my oils, before and after wash. I use so little the bottles will last me for years, so no progress to show there.

So basically not much of an update, but I'm working on it. At least I didn't buy more stuff. :D

I resisted the urge to buy another lotion today. I hate/love when we get new products in, the consumer in me says "look new shiny thing that promises moisturized skin!" I think I'm gonna use my gross shower gel as bathroom cleaner... Smells ok-ish when not on skin so it will make my bathroom smell like pomegranate! I'm going to try double using my shampoo as a makeup brush cleaner also. I've noticed ALL my hair stuff has protein in it and I don't think my hair appreciates it but I'm trying to still use up before buying anything else.

Only exception, is schampoo and conditioner, because I recently got sebhorric dermatitis (I will never learn to spell that word >.<) so the ones I've had before is going to stay on the shelf until I'm ready to get rid of it.

Finished (well nearly, less than an inch left) my sweet almond oil yesterday, by surprise! But I bought another bottle as I use it daily for my skin. Also got a nice vial with a dropper to decant some to put on my dresser for face applications, and put a drop of lavendar eo in it! I think I'm going to put my body butters in with the "gift pile" which is a little stash of unused items I keep for last minute gifts throughout the year. I just can't handle the scent and neither can my skin. Today or tomorrow I'm going to try whipping up my own with cocoa butter and sweet almond oil. I might try adding coconut oil too.

I have two shampoos and three-four conditioners to get rid of.
Soon enough, I'll be able to use the stuff I actually want to use that I have at the back of that stash.
I did finish my one scalp treatment that did more harm than good, now I can use peppermint oil to stimulate my scalp.
There are plenty of leave-ins for me to get rid of, primarily coney, but I'll go slower for those.

My sister has ran out of her shampoo (she leaves the empty bottles in the shower, weird) so I know she's sneaking mine. Which is good and bad, as I only have two shampoos left, both partially used, and I know she's using the "good" one... So I will have to buy more shampoo meanwhile the conditioners last forever...

im using a herbal essences shampoo that I am over on my body as well as mixing it with cone and sulfate free conditioner to make it a little gentler on my scalp.

Once it runs out I may transfer to sulfate free shampoo

Wow! This is totally me. I have so many almost-half empty containers of hair products sitting in my shower and in my cabinets. I always end up aquiring more stuff before completely using up what I aready have. This is especially true for shampoos & deep conditioners. Not so much styling products, as I don't use them often so they seem to last me a really long time anyway.

Right now, I'm trying to get rid of an It's a 10 shampoo & leave in, a BioSilk Silk Therapy oil, a Mythic Oil, a Morrocan Oil Mask, and a Wen Mask. I think that the Wen & Morroocan Oil are going to be first to go. I'm really working at it because I want to try the resoroative mask by Living Proof and I refuse to buy it until my others are completely gone.

Welcome Amanda (hey I like your name :D) and rina!
I'm now down to... Three shampoos (two partially used, one full) four conditioners (two cone free, close to being done, and one mostly full one and a 1/2 of another), and two deep conditioners!! Getting closer! :) I bought two shave gels, and I'm going to try to experiment with leave in conditioner as shaving gel... I figure it's the same as using normal conditioner for shaving.. Or I might try using it as a rinse out conditioner.

This is the thread for me :)

I've been trying to cut down the amount of products i have for a few months now. I have heaps of travel and half finished bottles of shampoo and conditioner but my main stash product is moisturisers. Im making a concerted effort to not buy anything new at all until i am right out and I'm trying to moisturise whenever i remember. Hopefully i'll end up with at least one more drawer in the bathroom empty by the end of this and have nice smooth skin as an nice side effect :)

So, I suck at this. Really. I just buy more and more stuff. But a lot of my hair products is now left at my ex's (and I'm a poor student so I can't really get new expensive ones), so I'll make a NEW list with stuff I actually have access to. I guess something good have to come out of a break up... :P

Shampoos (3):
Body shop Ginger Anti-dandruff
Desert Essence Tea Tree and lemon (been like 1/6 left foreeeever)
Bodyshop Rainforest volume

Conditioners (4):
Desert Essence Coconut
Garnier Avocado and Shea (like, half a use left...)
Naturelle for normal/dry hair
Klippoteket for normal hair
Pantene Pro-V volume for fine hair

Deep conditioners/hair masks (1):
Garnier Response Mother of pearl deep conditioner (about one use left)

Oils, serums and leave ins (4):
Argan oil
Klippoteket water soluble silicone leave in (winter-use only)
Pantene Vitamin E dry oil
Panacea samples (1,5)

I'm eliminating these things from my stash because I want to start using the DermOrganic line, I have it stashed for later and I want to wait until most of my stuff is gone to start using it.
Shampoos
- Pantene Volume (SLS+)
- Dove Dry Oil Shampoo (SLES)

Conditioners
- Down Under Naturals Argan Oil (cone free)
- Dove Dry Oil (cone free)
- Pantene Sleek (cone loaded)
- Pantene Volume (Amodimethicone)

Leave-in
- Marc Anthony Strictly Curls Oil of Morroco (my sister's old stuff before she got dreadlocks. Cones)
- my sample sized Nightblooming salve trinity pack. I know I love Panacea and am going to buy more of that.

Not as bad as it used to be, I used to feel like I was drowning in product.
Soon enough I'll achieve my dream team hair products.

I have shelves and shelves of beauty/hair/skin/etc. products. I was just bemoaning this fact the other day and.. ta da! .. here I find this thread. I couldn't possibly list the number of products I have waiting, suffice it to say that I never met a new shampoo and/or/especially a conditioner that I didn't HAVE to try. It's like a drug. I went to CVS to pick up some prescriptions today and... somehow... came home with three new hair products. THREE. Because, you know, just one or two would have been silly.

Arbonne face wash GONE

Thank you I'm trying. Some things I go through naturally because I use them a lot, lip products for instance I love to have lip balm applied all day so I can use an entire in about a month. Makeup is harder as I only apply it 2-3 times a week. Nail polish I pick a colour and only apply it until it's gone (my nails have been teal for 2 weeks now). Lotion however takes me a long time because I'm lazy. I also focus on one product from each category at a time. So I'll only use one oil or serum, a shampoo and conditioner until they're gone then I move onto the next one

Well my "stash" is relatively small compared to some, but there are still some products I'd like to get rid of. Here's what I have, all told:

Shampoo
1/8 cup-ish clarifying shampoo
1/2 bottle Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus
1 bottle Shea Moisture African Black Soap
1/2 bottle T/Gel
1 bottle T/Sal

Conditioner
2.5 bottles GVP Conditioning Balm
1/2 bottle V05 Strawberries & Cream

Treatments/Other
Shea Moisture Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque
Spectrum Refined Coconut Oil

I also have aloe and 2/3 bottle jojoba oil, but I'm not looking to get rid of those. Jojoba oil 5-ever. :cloud9:

The main reason I'm here is because I figured y'all might have some advice. I don't have a *ton* of stuff to get rid of, but I don't know how to deal with the stuff I want gone. First: the coconut oil. I've only tried this kind, but I'm just not a huge fan. Can't say why. Maybe I'd like a different kind, maybe unrefined is the way to go, but so far my favorite oil is jojoba used on dry hair. So what do I do with 14oz of coconut oil? Heavy oiling as a pre-wash treatment? Use it to shave? Moisturize my feet? All of the above? Second: the shampoos. I'm experimenting because my scalp is weird -- maybe SD, maybe something else, I can't get to a doctor yet so I'm just going to see what I can do. But I don't know of any great ways to blow through medicated shampoos, you know? I've used body wash I didn't like as hand soap, but do I really want to wash my hands with OTC medicated shampoo? I'm keeping them all until I find something that works (currently trying the African Black Soap, thinking about maybe alternating that with the Coconut & Hibiscus) but what do I do with the ones I decide are duds?

Hi, all! I'm crawling back to this thread again. I've been tweaking my routine and in doing so have accumulated more products than I'd like. I have limited storage in my bathroom so I have to keep a tight rein on the amount of products I have at once.

Things I want to be rid of:
Tresemme shampoo/ 2 bottles
Whole Foods 365 sulfate-free shampoo/ 1 32oz bottle. Might give this to my boyfriend.
Herbal Essences shine shampoo/ most of a bottle
White Rain conditioner/ half left
Tresemme anti-breakage conditioner/ nearly a full bottle
IC Fantasia anti-frizz 'coney serum/ 3/4 left

Coconut oil has a ton of uses:
Shaving aid; after-shaving moisturizer
Take a spoonful and swish around your mouth to help with a migraine? My friend swears by this; I've never tried it.
Cooking, baking
Ah, um... lube. For nocturnal activities. But do not use together with latex condoms. Non-latex is fine I think.

I use/will be using the Tresemme conditioner for shaving, as I can't use it on my hair. It hates that conditioner. It will take forever to go through it all, and serves as a reminder to not buy a giant bottle of something that you're not sure if your hair will like.

I'm not too sure about medicated shampoos. Maybe you can use them for cleaning brushes or silk garments, depending on ingredients. Or give it away to a friend or relative.

I lol'd at the phrasing of "nocturnal activities." Thank you for the ideas!

And now that you mention it, my brother has worse scalp problems than I do and might use some of the stuff I have if I offered. Don't know why I didn't think of that before.

Everyone seems to be doing well! I'm down to 1/3 to 1/4 of my clarifying shampoo, and I'm going on Vacation and plan to use up all the rest of my travel size stash (shampoos, conditioners, lotions). I did add two body sprays to my stash, they were free so I was like "why not". I don't think I've bought any new hair stuff since I've last updated minus some sample travel size ones... I do plan to get some Sally's conditioning balm soon though.

Finished a bottle of my favourite conditioner, Ayumi's hair treatment (I have another one anyway, but I was waiting to finish this bottle to open a new conditioner that I bought) and almost finished the Active Hair Conditioner by Biofficina Toscana (only 2 usages left), when this one will be gone too I can open the new conditioner up by I Provenzali

I have been unconsciously participating in this challenge. I bought a pantene shampoo and conditioner that I tried only once after I bought it and I love it but I'm forcing myself to wait until I use up the rest of my shampoos and conditioners.

Tressemme Naturals Moisturizing conditioner finally finished.
Finished my Garnier fructis split remedy leave in.

Working on finishing the L'oreal total repair 5 conditioner.
Still have an organix sulfate free shampoo and the l'oreal evercreme sulfate free shampoo both of which are still about 2/3 full to finish. Problem is I'll be done the conditioner much faster than the shampoos and won't have any conditioner to match them with and I don't want to buy one just so I can finish the conditioner. Maybe I'll save the shampoos once I'm done the conditioner in case I want to go back t being sulfate free after pantene.

I'm such a notorious hair product junkie. I use a lot of my products until there is only a few washes-worth left in them, but I end up abandoning them anyway. My non-silicone conditioners, on the other hand, I seem to go through monthly whilst CO-ing. If hair sticks had a limited capacity on wearing, I would go through a few each week.

You don't mix & match your conditioners? I never use a conditioner from the same line as the shampoo - it won't hurt. Just use any old conditioner to finish up the shampoos. It will do.

This thread has inspired me to try to use up most of my stash this summer. Problem is, I have several shampoos/conditioners that I bought and absolutely hated so I'm trying to pawn them off on my mother but she always forgets to use them  The rest is a ton of discontinued Bath and Body Works stuff that I feel pained about using since I could only find them again on eBay for a pretty penny. Lol that may seem odd but whenever I have something that I love and know is really hard to find, I tend to hang on to it and not even use it.. Which kind of defeats the purpose :p But I'm going to try my best. Starting with whatever products are closest to empty. There's something so satisfying about seeing an empty bottle go into the trash!

I tend to be the same kind of "hoarder". But it will go bad one day, so it's best to use it. I'm coming around to that notion. ;) And yes, nothing feels as good as seeing that bottle go to the recycling bin.

Ugh. I went searching for a sunscreen to replace mine since I'm allergic (of course) to it now. Ran across alba botanica? I think that's how it spelled, and found a sunscreen to order plus I found a BUNCH of shampoos/conditioners I want to try!!! I'm down to one shampoo half full, and a ton of conditioners. Like five. So I'm making myself use all that up before I can order the other kind. Stupid conditioners, and body wash. They never go away. And I can't use the body washes too often otherwise I'll break out.

It wouldn't be so bad if I actually used a good bit of conditioner. Right now my hair is barely APL and super thin, so I can only use a little bit at the time. I did finish up a conditioner last night, and threw another one away because it was moldy on the lid (cheated, I know) so now I'm down to 3 deep conditioners, 3 regular conditioners, and that one shampoo. Plus I have two body washes to use up. One is a big one and half full, the other is a travel size one that's only 3 ounces, but will still take forever for me to use up because it has stupid stupid sulfates in it. Plus a bunch of lotions in various sizes. Ugh. I did order the sunscreen and one shampoo and one conditioner, but I won't use them until I finish everything else.

I can't stand it either when I have things I really don't like or ultimately have no use for. Although if I really, really hate a conditioner, sometimes I will use it as shave cream just to use it up, or clean the toilet with shampoo or shower gel that I don't like and get rid of it that way. I try not to rely on that too much, but it works to use up those things you just don't like. Hope you like the new items that you purchased and don't have to resort to those kinds of desperate measures , haha :)

Oh, I too have used those measures before, lol. Fortunately I like all the regular conditioners I have now. The deep conditioners... not so much. I usually only use them once a week though, I'm going to maybe try twice a week (more conditioned hair at least!) if I can remember. Btw I love your avatar picture.

So... I'm adding to my stash. :couch: I kind of have to, though. It turns out that all of my conditioners have protein in them, and my hair is currently in a very angry state of protein overload. It'll probably take a lot longer to use up my stash now, so I'll be trying to give some of my conditioners away to friends and family.

Is there anyone on this thread who de-stashing their wardrobe? So far I have retired 2 shirts, 2 pairs of shorts, 2 pairs of jeans, and I still have copious amounts of clothing that's too big to go through

**I am also selling things to destash my life as I prefer life as a minimalist (I've moved at least 18 times in the past 8 years) so I am selling 1 hair comb, 2 pairs of earrings, 1 flat iron (1 only have 1 here in Mexico once I'm back to Canada I will sell the other one), multiple pairs of shoes, some clothing, 2 bags etc.

I totally am! I'm going through my wardrobe right now. Most of my clothes I've had since high school which was 6 years ago. Full of holes, too. I should probably throw those out, actually.

I had to throw out my jar of coconut oil last night, it had gone bad and mold had started growing on the inside of the lid :( didn't know it until I had it all over my leg though, it smelled HORRID. Now I will always remember to do the sniff test before applying. Ugh. Overall my destash is progressing very slowly.
