View Full Version : dumb bun question

Okay, so I've been on LHC three years, and I keep forgetting to ask this question. When everyone talks about a cinnabun, I picture a bun where the swirls are all visible, because that's what a cinnamon bun looks like. When I make my basic bun, I only have one swirl visible, and the rest are underneath and invisible. So it doesn't look like a cinnamon bun, but more like a doughnut. (Not a bee-butt bun, I know what that is.) I've seen pictures of both what i do, and one with all the swirls visible both labeled as "cinnabuns."

My mom always called the bun I do a "chignon," which I know is a pretty generic term. When my hair is shorter, I pin the ends under, and when it's longer, I use a stick or two.

So is the bun I do a cinnabun, or is it something else? Sorry no photo, I have a photo phobia after a few weird online experiences. If no one understands what I'm talking about, I'll try to get a picture up temporarily.

I always thought the cinnabun was supposed to look like a cinnamon roll (http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:QG1SzjblefhcvM:http://www.blogadilla.com/img/bacon-cinnamon-roll.jpg). The twist gets flattened on to your head and the coils wrap around and out in a concentric circles sort of way.

Take a look at the Nautilus bun (aka inside-out bun), which is just the twisted version of the lazy wrap bun. Lots of names, same sort of thing... That might be what you're doing.

Mine always ends up looking like some other kind of a roll because I have to stretch the innermost loops out around the outermost loops to get the whole thing to pin securely.

That's what I thought, too, so what is what I do called? I just flatten the first swirl over the other ones so it has the shape of a doughnut.

I think that's called a Gibralter (as in "holds like the rock of ...".

I tried and tried to get a copy of a Gibralter and cinnabun to post side by side here but I'm not geek enough to have figured out how to cross-post from my album. I have a picture of both, but not only are they not side by side, they're not even on the same page. Darn! Anybody else able to post these buns side by side?

When I try to do the big flat lovely cinnabun, every time I twist and wrap more of the hair around, it tucks itself underneath the previous rolls. So I end up with a cylinder-shaped cinnabun sticking out a good 3-5 inches from my head. Pretty weird looking on me. -_-

That's the bees butt bun. I have to keep pressure against the first coil to keep it flat to my head so the others go around it rather than behind it, otherwise I'd end up with the bees butt, too.

I think it comes out different depending on length and thickness plus technique. If you secure the first coil so it is flat on your head and don't let any of the hair get tucked under, it should look more like a cinnamon bun.

The Nautilus looks different but similar to the Gibralter and starts with a bees butt bun rather than the cinnabun.

1. Put your URL (everything from http to the end of the link) in your clipboard

2. Start a post

3. Click on the 'postcard' button in the toolbar at the top of the posting box. It's the third from the right, with a mountain and a sun on it

4. In the box that pops up, paste your URL (there will be an existing http part in there, but it will be highlighted, so if you just paste, it will be erased)

5. Click on OK and the tags and URL will be inserted into that point in your post

This is what I came up with for yours:

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=1680&pictureid=19819

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=1680&pictureid=19827

I'll add an extra * in the text of these links so you can see what they look like in the posting box when you do them. If you remove the * from these examples, they will post as photos instead of text:

[*IMG]http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=1680&pictureid=19827[/IMG]

Hope that made sense!

Those buns and especially the ornament in the Gibraltar bun are gorgeous, Spidermom! And now I know a new bun :D I'm glad this question was asked!

Oh-it's the Gibraltar I've been doing. With hair as thick and slippery as mine, it's a good one:)
