I've just been cast as a quick fill-in as a flapper in a play about Amelia Earhart and I need some ideas as to what to do with my hair. My hair type is to the left under my avatar. It's a little longer than the length listed and I won't be cutting it. Does anyone have any suggestions on artificially shortening it either by way of a page boy style, or maybe tight curls? I need to find a way to eat up some of the length, but the style needs to be really stable because I'll be bouncing and dancing all over the place.
I don't know what to do with it! All suggestions are welcome :)

Instead of explaining the basics, I'll just give you a link to a video. It's in Norwegian, but it's not complicated at all, so you don't really need to hear her instructions

Now what you have to do differently is to not roll your bangs/front hair. Do a centerpart or a sidepart. Leave the flapper hairband showing across your forehead (or place it over your bangs if you have them). Roll like she does in the video, but not as tightly. Don't pull the top layer out for more volume, tug on the rolled parts instead, since that looks more flapper-ish. If you curl or crimp your hair first (sleep with foam rollers, small braids, rag curls, etc) this style will look quite flapper-ish. Oh, and it helps a lot to use a thicker hairband :)

Hairnets (invisible ones, they come in colours that blend in) are also awesome for giving a "neat" 1920s look, if you do a side part and a low nape-bun. (Many women did not cut their hair but wore it in very smooth, polished, low chignons in the 1920s.) A helpful website:

Here's another link to a style you might try. Looks like a bit of work, but it might be a good effect you can use.

Thanks for the replies! Fingers crossed that I'll have time to try them all and get one to work before the show next Saturday :)
