Fellow Longhairs, I need your help!
A friend of mine, Christine, did an at home dye job yesterday and it turned out...not as planned. From the pictures included you can see there are large patches of hair that the dye did not take in, both root and length. She has a natural color of a light brown, dark blond, and length that had previously been lightened to a golden blond. She has never had a problem with dye not taking in her hair before, and we can't think of why this would happen now. She had no product in her hair when she dyed, and says she saturated completely (she has done at home dye before). Any help is really wonderful, as I wanted to try and fix it tonight while she is in town with me.

If I forgot any information, just ask. Thanks in advance!

You could try something like Color Oops, and strip the dye that did take, and try again later.. Or you could re-dye the patches that didn't take. I'm sorry I don't have anything better to suggest!

Too bad she doesn't like it. I think all the colors look pretty cool and work together.

what color was it suppose to turn out? The dark red. She doesn't want to go lighter, and she doesn't like her natural color. She wants a darkish red. I suggested Henna, but I have never done it myself, so I am not really the best person to advise her on it. She is a little overwhelmed by the information I showed her from Hennaforhair.com. and I don't blame her, it is a lot to take in. Any advice for hennaing her hair?

Henna over what she's got will even it out fabulously - at least, that was my experience. I had several hair colours from highlights, lowlights, previous bleach, and virgin roots, and when I had finished my first henna app, it was all the same, beautiful colour. However, henna is so very, very permanent that if there is any chance she may not like the red, or may want to NOT be red in the next few years, well... that will be pause for thought.
