i have rather thick hair. My ponytail is 5" thick and my hair length is below bsl. I do love the thickness of my hair but i find that many of the styles that people can do at this length impossible as my hair is too thick. I understand that thick hair often needs to be longer to do many styles but it is so frustrating. Anyone else feel the same?

Sometimes I feel this way. For example, I can't do a figure-8 bun, even though I'm at waist, because my hair is too thick. But I usually appreciate my thick hair, because so many people would love to have thick hair like us!

It doesn't really bother me. My ponytail is 5.6" and that is with my hair layered AND thinned. I am at hip length and I can't do many of the bun styles, hair sticks and clips end up snapping and I spend a lot of money on conditioner ! But it's totally worth it :)

Yes. I found it really frustrating to see people with the same length as me being able to do hair dos that took me years more of growing to do
I couldn’t do a “normal” cinnamon bun until hip length! And by “normal” I mean a self stabilising bun that you don’t have to hair-pin the crap out of to get to stay up
But in the end, it’s so rewarding to have a thick mane. You get a higher “wow factor” once you get there, but you may have to grow longer to be able to do the up dos you want!

I don't have thick hair, but I can see how it would be challenging! For the most part I like having thin hair (never have to worry about it looking 'bushy') but sometimes I think that it'd prefer thick hair... My braids are soooo pathetic, haha. I really admire you ladies who have braids as thick as your arm!

When my hair was middle-length it was a pain (people used to tell me to get it cut in layers, but fortunately I didn't), but once it's past about bsl it really makes it look better. So I'm glad that I have really thick hair.

Yep, it certainly is frustrating. When I was younger I used to get compliments from hairdressers about how lovely and thick it is, but I couldn't really see the beauty in it at the time. I do now, but it still has its downsides. I wouldn't trade it though. Like Igor said, once you get to the lengths necessary to do all those updos you miss out on earlier, they have a certain "wow" factor.

I have extremely thick hair, and I find it beautiful but only annoying when it comes to taking care of it. It tangles like crazy and takes so much time to wash and condition!

Oh, yes from time to time me and my hair really hate each other.
Like when I tried figure 8 bun and spidermom's bun that stays and my hair just said ***** you and fell down :P
But I love my hair when it behaves. It truly is a wow factor then :)

Agreed, agreed. At about waist length, it's frustrating to try and do new 'dos, only to find that my hair won't cooperate. I was even ordering a shelot from Raven and had to have her extend the middle bit so it'd fit over the thickness of my bun!
Though, like others have said, I look forward to the day that my hair has more length and is still this thick!

My hair is very thick...it really is like a horsetail when I put it in a ponytail even though I get it cut in layers. I usually leave it down because it's so heavy. It simply refuses to stay up for longer than an hour unless I use a lot of mousse or gel (which I hate), especially when I have to move around a lot and yes- sometimes that is kind of frustrating. ;)

I am finding it more frustrating as my layers and razor thinning grow out. My hair toys are becoming too small much more quickly than I expected. I see these people who can do figure-8s at APL and I'm sooo jealous. But it is nice when doing braids...
I think the frustrating thing for me is having FINE thick hair. It tangles like crazy sometimes.

Yes, I do find it difficult when I am trying a new hairstyle. I usually have to adapt the instructions on many of the tutorials from Youtube/the articles here, because my hair is thick. I love the look of it down though :) I may get layers put in sometime around goal, just to see whether I like how they act. I like how layers look :)

I don't mind having thick hair. Actually, I like it. The only thing which I hate about it that I can't use usual hair toys, because they are too small. I have beautiful big french barrettes but I can't use them to make a ponytail. :(

I also have thick hair and it was a problem to try different hair dos and not be able to do even though my ponytail is 4" without the bangs included.

It was frustrating at shorter lengths, but waist has been the magical length for me whereby I can actually do several good buns, and that makes like immensely easier. Plus, mine started shedding like crazy due to hormones and I lost some thickness - I didn't think I'd miss it until some of it was gone!

The frustration of thick hair is pretty much why I cut it to pixie length!
The drying time was my biggest complaint...there's no way air can penetrate to the scalp to get everything dry in a reasonable amount of time. I think water-only washing is helping me with that though... my hair repels water and dries much faster than ever!

I miss my thick hair. Why can't it be as thick as it was when I was 25? Why!!!

Yeah, I find it really frustrating. It's actually why I chopped 10" off a few months ago, because it took all day to dry and really aggravated the eczema on my scalp. There's no advantage to thickness at my current length (APL), but then the advantages of it being thick when it's longer are outweighed by the fact that my head is itchy and sore the whole time (yes, I know there are blow-dryers, but I really dislike them and they're not worth it IMO).

My pony circ is 4.25", not counting new growth from pp shed (it's still too short to go in a pony). I love it most times. It is annoying that I cannot do many updos others can at this length, but I can't do updos too often anyway because the weight gets to me, and my scalp gets itchy - suffocates I guess, lol.

How about moderate thickness, sleekness, no fairytale ends and slipperiness...?
There is up's and down's with every hairtype out there. But good thing is there is a updo for every type of hair! :D

definately prefer having thicker hair. it is great insulation from the cold of winter and a fan in summer time.
in the early stages of growing out from short it wasn't much joy as it was took ages before it could stay neat and tidy however now that it's finally long enough to fully tie back in a tail it is easier to control. as thicker hair grows longer i think it looks and begins to get heaps better once it's past armpit length.
and yes the shear volume of it does make it a challenge to tie up and it does get tangled easy and takes a few minutes to comb out in mornings and last thing at night but i prefer it loose anyway.
it does take a bit of time to wash, shampoo and condition but much prefer thick hair to thin hair anyday. funny how many associate thick hair with coarse hair. mine is quite thick and fine at the same time and therefore fragile which is the only minus point that i see when washing it. i have to do it slow so as not to damage it.
