A lot of the trends from spring continue to the summer, so for us longhairs there are good news for the summer season as well

Two trends are general for all the styles that are in: Either keep it shiny and slick, or rough and messy.

Braids
Braids continue to be the biggest thing in hair right now!

http://i43.tinypic.com/28rjpex.jpgBraids of any kind: Herringbone, rope braid, English braids, crown braids
http://i43.tinypic.com/28rjpex.jpgThe side braid continues as the absolutely hottest thing there is hair-wise. Braid it tight and shiny with product or keep it matte and messy: Simply leave your sleeping-braid alone and rub a little leave in-conditioner or oil up and down the length to rough it up

Middle parts

“Undone” relaxed waves are huge for around shoulder length hair. It should look like you just rolled out of bed and ran a comb through it; All natural texture with healthy shine
Wear it with either a side part or the middle part

More decorations
http://i43.tinypic.com/28rjpex.jpgA single, contrasting stripe of coloured hair is coming in. Go for an obviously fake colour clip in and let it show for a playful contrast (Just make sure its fake hair so it’s not coming from a poor woman’s head or from a misinformed LoL donator!)

Also, bangs/fringe is still trend on, so if you got them, flaunt them!

On a somewhat off-topic note, there is an avant-garde trend on bleached or pale eyebrows, so if you colour your hair darker, leave your eyebrows alone. If you’re feeling brave, it might be worth buying a bleaching product
It does bring a lot of attention to the eyes!

Wow, great post! But alas, I have light hair and dark eyebrows! Hmm...maybe I'm just really, really fashion-forward and the world hasn't caught up yet. :p

I'm really loving all of the braided looks I've been seeing for the past couple of years. I like the imperfect look of most of the boho braids. It's nice to see the rope braid and the herringbone braid a lot too.

Whether bangs are "in" or not, I'll always be wearing them though.

Thanks for the great links!

Oooh, I like that link with the bleached eyebrows. I have extremely pale eyebrows anyway, and a florid complexion (read: I go pink very easily!) so I don't really need to bleach them any lighter!

I'm totally loving a kind of messy side-braid thing right now. I've been doing it most days for a while! I especially love the herringbone variation, but that takes a lot longer so an english braid will do most days. But I did a side herringbone for clubbing on a friend's birthday and got lots of compliments :D

My eyebrows are naturally really pale and a lot lighter than my hair (they are actually white and barely visible).. people always ask me why i dont have eyebrows. I dont care about trends but this made me happy :o

I really like the milkmaid braids with ribbon, but that's something I do now and then anyway.

It looks like I can walk around with my hair soaking in oil and will appear stylish. :)

I must say I don't like the bleached eyebrows. I'll be either leaving mine alone or making them darker, because that's what I like (no offense to anyone with naturally light eyebrows, that looks fine).

Maybe I'll be able to find some headbands I like in stores soon, not the giant bows, but one of those links mentioned a row of flowers, I think. That would suit my face.

I like to pair a middle part with those decorative chains that go over the part and have a little pendant at the end over the forehead. I don't know if that's been in style yet...I don't keep track of this stuff.

Oh well, it is fun that long hair is currently fashionable, but it goes against my usual tendency to be deliberately unfashionable. :D

I love the braid looks, too. Huh, I haven't tried milkmaid braids, yet; maybe that'll be my next project.

Ooh, thank you so much for this post Igor!! How exciting :)

A couple months ago when I was reading my guilty pleasure, Seventeen Magazine (hehe), they had a big article on long "mermaid style" hair and how it's the new "popular look" for summer. So that made me happy. Except for the fact that my hair is still APL. Le sigh.

But these styling tips are going to be excellent - thank you!

Wow! Thank you for such an informative post Igor!!! Awesome I love the overall embracing of texture! I have naturally wavy/curly hair and so texture is always there whether I like it or not :p

I adore side braids and only wish my hair was long enough to make one :(

Not a fan of bleached eyebrows...nm.

My favourite style was probably the fishtail french braid with the side swept up giving it a retro look. Adorable :heartbeat:cool:

Great links....I love being suddenly "on trend", with my usual mesy braids and buns and transparently pale eyebrows. I should rock it while I've got it...who knows what will be in style next year.

That was fun, Igor! Thanks for posting these.

The milkmaid braids are adorable. Think Angelina Jolie was doing these before they were trend (as Lara Croft).

Igor this post is brilliant. Am so glad my hair is now long enough to do these styles. Bleached eyebrows though? Mine are naturally black and that is how they will stay. Think of the roots i would get if i bleached them! It's only recently i have accepted and begun to love my dark brown hair (henna is now my friend thanks to you guys at LHC). Loved the links with the photos. Brilliant.

Long side braid: that one is my ready for sleep look. I could wear that one the rest of the day if I didn't mind looking trendy.

It annoys my so damn hard that something is suddenly 'okay' to wear just because someone put it on a model. :justy:

Otherwise, I'm glad that they see the glory of the long side-braid (which I've been wearing for years and years XD)

IMO, long hair is always in style. You just do something different with it, ie. buns vs, braids. Thats why I <3 it :)

Hahaha it does seem a bit daft that long hair can suddenly be soooo this season doesn't it... Like all of you though, I'm sort of chuffed that my bed-head is suddenly trendy LOL!

The side braids are really cute. :) Thanks for sharing!

When I was looking at all of the braids, I noticed that the vast majority of them taper at the bottom in a serious kind of way. This makes me feel good that my braid taper is "fashionable." LOL! I still want to trim to lessen the taper, but at least I feel better about it now.

I love side braids with a passion. Although I am nervous about looking dated when they go out of style. Normally I don't pay attention to what is "in" or "out" but generally, things that are "in" with gusto, tend to go "out" with similar, if not exponential enthusiasm. It is easier on one's style mentality to attach oneself to styles that were never really "in" in the first place.

wow! great article for us!

Did anyone else cringe looking at the teased, hairsprayed, messy topknot? ACK!!

I thought about that too. If it is in now, it'll be out soon.

I'm taking advantage while I can. At least this summer I can wake up with my hair looking like a fashion model's.
