You girls have seen my picture in my 'I feel ugly thread' so you know what my hair looks like... I was wondering what kind of updos I can do now except pinning it back like in the first picture I posted there.. Cos ponytails look so strict on me... like I'm a bitter headmaster or smth;)

I do not think you would look severe at all.
If you do not like your hair like that then how about a pony tail or bun with some wisps left down?

I always like the look of a high pony tail with some wisps framing the face. I softens look.

Hey, you might get some guy responses, too! There are plenty of 'em here. :)

What about an accent French braid across the front? I think those look so romantic...

I actually LOVE updos for layered hair. You can always bring your layers out of a plait or ponytail or something, and it frames your face nicely and gives you a far more trendy look on a whole. :)

On a side note, would you ever consider getting bangs?

I second Beets suggestion to try a lace braid (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=113), or a lace rope braid, across the front, very cute and keeps layers out of your face!

Also, the Cheater's Bun (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=25145&highlight=cheater%27s+hairstick) works on shorter hair, and holds even if you have layers peeking out.
