weird fiber-optic hair

Question for you dark-haired ladies (or guys) out there...

What does it mean if the very tip of a hair (less than 1 mm) looks brighter and lighter than the rest of it? It looks almost like fiber-optic cable. Is that a split waiting to happen? Is it bent near the tip and just catching the light differently?

Wish I had a microscope so I could see what this is.

I think I will do some S & D and trim those off just in case.
