The longest mine has been is a little past tailbone.

I keep it, generally, around hip length. Sometimes it gets to tailbone and sometimes I'll trim it to waist length, but hip length is pretty much the average.

I could grow it longer, but I like to be able to wear it down with some regularity, and working in a professional capacity as I do, having knee length hair would require my putting it up all the time. With hip length, I can get away with a low ponytail or a half-up and still look professional if I dress professionally.

I'm debating whether to cut it back again or just keep going. The last couple of times it hit waist-length, I chopped it back to shoulder-length or a bit below. It seems to have slowed down lately, though, so I suspect I'm approaching a limit. Mine was BSL+ 2-3 inches when I was 16. Then I got a box of "semi-permanent" red dye. Which rather quickly washed out of the bangs-to-chin area, and stayed throughout my very damaged length. That's when I decided to go for the punky hair, and I have had fairly short hair ever since, except when it got to APL when I was growing it for my ex, until he told me "your hair is not really good enough to look long." Thanks a lot!:mad: It has been short the past 5 years.

Now I'm torn on whether to even trim!

Now with the info I have found here about c-cow-c, my scalp is much happier, and I think we may be able to get back to tailbone sometime next year.

I think it was around tailbone during college. Right now I'm at "can I call this hip", and its the right length for it to stay up in a bun on its own. I distinctly remember it being a few inches longer than this and that bun not working anymore. I was really annoyed that the "stay up on its own" bun didn't work anymore. Don't think I got too much longer than that before I trimmed back to where it'd stay up on its own again. I was definitely sitting on it though, so I'm guessing around tailbone... maybe just shy of it.

I asked my mom so I could respond to this thread, since my memory is so horrible!
She said my hair is definitely the longest it has ever been. She considers my hair waist length now (I consider it 1-3 inches shy of 'full waist') and she says that the previous longest my hair ever was was a bit beyond BSL with thin wispy pieces reaching to waist.
Yay! My ends are pretty 'thin' and 'wispy' now, but I keep them blunt cut across so I don't think it looks as horrible as before.

The longest I ever had my hair was 29 inches; just above waist, during my first year at LHC. However, pre-LHC damage and a colouring disaster led me to have to cut. A second colour disaster a year later to remove the previous colour disaster led me to cut again, as I was closing in on waist.

I then maintained my length for almost 2 years, and am now slowly growing again, while continuing to cut out that damage.

I hope to be past my previous longest length in a little over a year.

Waist at age 11. The next year, I went to junior high and had it cut to a chin-length bob in an (unsuccessful) effort to be "cool". Other than that, I think that this (just past BSL) is the longest it's been. I've had long hair most of my life, but never past BSL. I always believed that you needed to trim regularly and the hairdressers always cut off a couple of inches, so it never got longer (even though I often told the cutter that I wanted to grow it longer). Almost 6 months away from the hairdresser now (don't I sound like a recovering addict?).

The longest my hair has ever been was ankle length, some tears ago. Which is very long for a man (or even for a woman).

I was dating a woman at that time who wore her hair very short, in a short one inch pixie hairstyle, and it was so easy for her to take care of her hair, all she did was essentially wash and wear. In my case, it took hours for me to wash, deep condition, dry, detangle, and brush my long hair. My lady loved my long hair on me and sometimes she would wash, condition, detangle and brush my long hair for me, she enjoyed doing that, and she didn't want me to cut it. However it was too long to easily take care of, so I got it cut to one third of the way down my back, which was a huge amount of my hair cut.
My lady got a little upset with me for cutting it, but it was still much longer than most people's hair.

These days I wear my long hair two-thirds of the way down my back. I have longer hair than my wife or my daughters. My wife wears her hair short, and my daughters wear their hair a little past their shoulders.

I have longer hair than any of my female relatives. I enjoy having long hair, and my wife loves it on me, so why not wear it long.

My hair was the longest when I was about 15-16 years old, it was hip-lenght and pretty healthy. Then a hairdresser cut it, without asking,back to somewhere between BSL-waist, and thinned it out (my superfine, i/ii hair!)

When I was pregnant, it was proper waist again, but then I had to cut it after a major shed after giving birth to my baby boy. I've been growing it out since 2 years now, and I'm aiming for waist again (and then hip, then TB,... ;) ).

I think BSL has always been the longest for me. I've never been very nice to my hair, so for it even to survive to that length is amazing in itself. I just looked at my photo albums the other day to see how long my hair was when I was little. I couldn't remember the longest it had been; I think now that it was longest when I was about 21 years old, factoring in that I was much smaller as a little girl, so my hair would have been shorter. :) Here's what I found from my photo albums:

When I was 6, my hair was down to about my waist! And then, my mom and I both got our hair cut (mine to about shoulder length) because my little sister was about to be born. At least, this is how I'm perceiving it now looking at the photos in my album. Maybe it was so the baby wouldn't pull our hair!

Then when I was 8 or 9, my hair looks to have been between BSL and waist from the photos, but when I was 10, it was suddenly about 5 inches shorter. (There's a picture of me at about 9 or 10 in my album that you can see...looks like my hair was about APL there.)

As a teen, I didn't wear my hair longer than between shoulder and APL, and mostly shorter than that.

And then, as an adult, about age 21, my hair looks to have been between APL and BSL. Of course, my hair was also thicker than it is now (because of all the shedding that's happened in the last 5 years). Hoping to get back to thicker, longer hair!

I had been at hip from the time that my hair first hit there when I was little up until I was 17. I have rebelled since then, but it never grew longer than almost tailbone. I think it was mainly because I didn't take proper care of my hair. I didn't know how, but my mom never let me cut it. My longest length was classic. My hair accidentally hit that length in 1998. I basically forgot about it, it was just growing and living in a braid. I was unaware of how long it was until one day, when it was actually down, I sat on it. :lol: I looked at it in the mirror and it was just below my booty. I was stunned. And I loved it. And I, for some unknown to me now reason chopped it to just below my shoulders a few months later. :justy:

I think that my ultimate goal is classic, again. I may go longer. We'll see when I get there. :D
