View Full Version : How fast does your hair grow?

I've been measuring my hair for the last six months and it grows at a very regular 1/2" each month, just as all the experts say it should :). However, humans being a varied bunch, there must be some of you out there whose hair grows faster or slower than the average.

So, how fast does your hair grow? Be honest now, no cheating :D !!

I've been measuring for two months now, so I can't be sure with an average, but both times it's grown almost a full inch. I hope this is an all the time thing, but I won't be sure until I've measured for 6-12 months to see.

I also have an average of about half an inch. So just the average growth here :)

Half an inch (:

Not fast enough.

But I haven't measured in a while. It's too disheartening.

Between 2cm and 2.5cm. Clearly, I am obsessed. ;)

I've only been measuring 2 months as well, but it's grown an inch each time. Unfortunately, it doesn't show very well with the curls.

My hair grows at 1/2" every month till it reaches 21". Then it stops growing altogether. I've never had hair longer than APL though I've tried everything possible to make it grow.

I've been measuring since the end of July, and have had 5.5 inches of growth since then, and it grew about an inch a month over the summer, then slowed and almost stopped entirely over the winter. I suppose it averages about 1/2" a month, though, maybe a bit more over the course of the year.

My hair grows a bit faster than 1/2" per month, I've already grown six inches in 10 1/2 months so my hair pretty much grows the average amount. The first few months I grew a full inch and the next month 1 1/2 inches but then I nearly stopped for a month and then evened out. I started out at 22" and now I am at 28".

I measured 3/4" per month (or 1/4" in about 10 days) for almost two months after my last trim. Lately it has grown about 1/2 inch per month - it started doing that when my ends got thin enough to be more affected by things like breakage, resting/shedding and S&D-ing the longest hairs. Now, in early May, I was a bad girl wearing ponytails and sleeping with loose hair for some days. This increased my breakage at the ends, and I have done a lot of S&D to get rid of it. I measured no growth a couple of days ago, and I don't expect a lot of growth this month... Silly me... :silly:

My hair growth is average.

mine is average too - I thought I was a fast grower when I first started, but I think it averaged out over the year + I have been growing.....

When I measured, it seemed to be about .7 inch. But I have since given up measuring, it's just too bothersome.

When I was still measuring back in ´06 it was fairly consistent 0.71 inch a month, not noticeably slowing down in winter or speeding up in summer. But I´ve stopped monthly measuring ;) does not help to watch the grass growing.

.75" - 1"/month. Always has. I used to keep it REALLY short (as in shaved) and it got annoying, but once I decide to grow it out, it's a pretty speedy process. :)

1cm is my average. Which is less then half an inch.

About 1/2" a month most of the time with some skipping and some 1" months, it's not regular but over a year it ends up to 6.5" a year. Until I reached classic, now it grows possibly slower but more no growth months followed by 1" growth.

Since I've been measuring, I've gotten between 5 1/2 and 6 1/2" per year. So that's pretty average.

I have not measured and don't normally measure except when I first join LHC. From the looks of things it's extremely slow growing. It's frustrating.

May 11th, 2008, 09:44 AM
It feels like my hair stopped growing once I found LHC. It'll pro'lly pick up once summer comes since I'm healthier (I eat/sleep/exercise better) and there's like 10 times less stress.

It averages out to about 6 inches per year, but monthly it looks like this: 1/2", 0, 1/4", 0, 1-1/2" ... and so forth.

Veeeeeery slowly. There are times when I gain 1/2 inch a month, but often nothing (like in the last months). But then. maybe it is not the slow growth but mere breakage - I have got a problem with this, the hairs are so fragile.

I don't keep track monthly, but last year I grew about 8 inches, even though my hair was very damaged and breaking off. I have a biiiig spurt as soon as the warm weather comes.

Typically 1 inch per month, unless I've chemically dyed it that month.
That gives it a pause.
No worries, I switched to henna.

Right now 3/4" - 1 1/4" and always faster the last two weeks of the month than the first two for some reason.

jesamyn
May 11th, 2008, 10:45 AM
3/4-1" a month. I have a feeling that it slows down at certain times, but overall it seems to stay with the 3/4-1" trend.

AJoifulNoise

From 28 to 32 inches it grew an inch a month. Recently, it has slowed down to 3/4" a month.

About 1/2 inch a month - yep.

When I was little, it grew about an inch and a half/month, throughout junior high and high school it grew about an inch/month.
Right now, it is not growing at all. It is completely stalled. :(

One half inch last month. May speed up as it's summer.

Based on my roots when I coloured my hair, a completely average 1/2 inch per month.

I only started measuring recently, but my two monthly measurements so far are consistent with the average growth rate.

I get .75" every month except for the summer when I can get up to 1.5"

I'm dead normal on this: right around 1/2" most of the time. It's about the only normal thing about me! :p:o

I grew about 2" a year for several years, no joke. When I hit between 48"-49", it stopped dead.

After a year of trying to coax it, I've begun trimming it back to about 47" and letting it grow to 49" again. After a year or so of doing this, I may see if it'll creep down any further.

I only wish I were average!

An Inch to an Inch and a half every month.

My hair grows .8in a month. Sometimes more but very rarely less.

My hair grows at all different rates. I went through a three or four month period last year where it didn't grow at all. Immediately after that, it grew an inch in a month. Other months it grows .5; some months, .75. I would say that if I had to average it all out, it would be just that, average--about .5 a month--but I don't measure any more. I just let it do its thing.

This is pretty much exactly how it is for me. I'm not sure about summers, because I didn't start measuring until last August, but it grew an inch in less than three weeks that month, so it likely is around the 1.5" range for summer.

So far it's been pretty consistent: When I joined LHC (a little under 9 months ago) my hair was about 27", and now it's around 33.5"

About 1/3 inch every month. In warmer months it goes about to about 1/2 sometimes 3/4 inch.

BlndeInDisguise

Around an inch, maybe more. I haven't been doing it that long, and I have to do it myself, so I don't know how accurate it is.

Close to an inch every month so far, Ive been growing for 7 months and have gained 6 inches growth. Will see how the next 5 months go to have a whole years worth of measuring to really average it out.

about 2" per month or so...i know...insane...but i've measure and calculated...plus i trim it like crazy every few DAYS...then i stop for a while then cut a chunk a few week later then go again cutting for a few days...and it just doesnt really get shorter...

1/2-3/4", usually 2/3" but it's been at 3/4" recently. I've been taking biotin. Hope it keeps up, but it could just be a spurt or fluctuation.

The first attempt at growing, my hair grew about an inch a month. This time, I have only been measuring for the last two months but I think it is keeping up its trend of 3/4 to an inch a month. :o) HOPE SO! About to add MSM to my vitamin routine to see if I get some more growth. :o)

Mine is average, 1/2 inch a month. Wish I could get more but that is my hair lot in life I suppose.

I must be the slow grower in the group I average out to about a 1/3 inch a month - although this last month was a 1/2 inch. I think summer time must be a stall for me. With two 1/2 inch trims I am gaining four inches a year. Patience never was my strong suit.

My hair is average. I've noticed when I'm happy and very active it grows faster.
