View Full Version : The "best and worst hair pic" thread!

I just had an idea for a thread. I don't think this has been done before. I thought it would be a fun idea for each of us to post two photos of our hair: one of our hair at its worst, and one of our hair at its best!

The purpose of this would be three-fold.

1.Firstly, to poke fun at ourselves for our vanity in always selecting the best pics, and taking photo after photo after photo until we get to the stage where we delete about twelve and keep the one that came out right where our hair looks perfect and amazing. (Tell me I'm not the only one who does this)!

2. Secondly, to reassure newer members (who may be feeling inadequate or intimidated by some of the stunningly beautiful heads of hair on here) that we can all have bad hair days!

3. Thirdly, to be amazed at how a good hair day photo and a bad hair day photo can look like two competely different heads of hair!

Suggested rules for this thread: keep the pic size small. Don't "quote" other people's pics. And the bad picture of your hair has to be really bad! It's no good saying: "I know you might not notice it, but my hair was really greasy," or, "I didn't quite manage to tuck the ends properly on this updo."

Here's my contribution! I curled the ends of my hair oh-so-beautifully, and was really pleased with how nice my hair looked. Then I woke up the next morning with the worse case of bed hair ever! ROFL! Did someone come and attack my plaits in the night with a wind machine? I normally look like this in the mornings, but it made me laugh even more because of the contrast from the other day!

Oh this is fun! chopandchange, your hair looks beautiful in the first picture!

Here's my contribution:

Good hair. My waves were soft and defined.

Bad hair. This is what my hair normally looks like when I wake up. shudder:

Thank you! I notice you didn't compliment me on the second picture! Ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Your "good hair" looks lovely and tidy, with beautiful blunt ends and a lovely colour!

As for your so-called "bad hair" pic: sorry, but apart from a little bit of floofiness sticking out at the right, that's just not bad enough! It needs to be worse!

Not many posts so far! Dear me, aren't we vain! Are you all being reluctant to actually post a bad pic of your hair? ;)

I don't actually KEEP the bad pics! I delete them as soon as they pop up on my camera! :shudder: I shall have to save the next hideous one I get and post it here!

Here's one of my hair about 9 months after joining LHC. My pre-LHC length was thinner than it is now, due to damage and breakage, and the wind whipping in my hair made for this delightful horror.

Good hair photos are in my avatar, signature photo and in my public photo album on my profile page. :)

Great idea for a thread!

Here are mine, both from last year :)

First, the bad one, it was taken after a deep oiling treatment:
http://hotimg23.fotki.com/a/94_189/147_66/feb09duina-vi.jpg (http://hotimg23.fotki.com/p/a/94_189/147_66/feb09duina-vi.jpg)

And the good one:

And, I have tons of 'bad' pictures, it was hard to decide which one to post on here :D

I will play!
Here is my hair taken about 5 minutes ago after finally taking out the french braid that has been on my head since about 9am yesterday. Note the lack of bothering to comb it out right now, and the lovely hair cleavage. :D

This is bad. This is why my curly hair doesn't get brushed. I've gone to work like this a few times because a coworker is going to braid my hair (it's easier to do it like this vs. very curly) and I get asked, "What happened to your hair? Where are your curls?"

I don't have any really good curly pictures saved.

Seriously gals, I find your bad hair pics not that bad at all! (of course, chopandchange, those braids do look like they've survived a war XD)

Okay, then, let's see what is honestly my worst hair picture ever in all its greasy, and misplacement-of-hairtoolsy and cleavage-y glory:

:eyebrows:http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w55/Chaja-girl/th_craplace.png?t=1275228382

HOLY CRAP THAT'S SO SEXY

Haha, that was actually a challange someone gave on this forum. I had to do Elizabethan hairtaping. It didn't come out quite so elegant XD

My best hair picture is sadly really dark. But you can see it was particularly shiny and swoopy that day:

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/image.php?u=28708&dateline=1271412676&type=profile

and of course that one is so incredibly sexy too, with the moustache

This is a great idea for a thread but what's interesting is people's different definitions of their own 'bad hair'. I actually poke fun at my own impossibly nice hair photos and usually post the bad ones too in my albums.

Also I think there was already a bed-head thread a while back and this thread is something more than that.

Here's one I took where honestly it was the best one I could come up with after combing and positioning myself in front of the camera about ten times...

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=3316&pictureid=53323

I couldn't get my ends to hang together for anything. I decided it was time for a trim after that photo.

And then trimmed, coned and sprayed with oil!

Bad hair day, before I ever tried henna, and before chopping the numerous splits on the top layer. Well, I guess it doesn't look that bad, but it's bleached and dull and henna-less. haha.

Rags, this is why we need this thread! A reason to keep the pics that don't turn out, and a place to put them!

Loreley, not nearly bad enough! Your hair is still verging on beautiful!

FrannyG, em, yes. It does look like it would be a cringe-worthy task having to comb that hair back to normality! Not quite the perfect golden tresses we've come to know and love, but still not very bad.

Serious, that's a bad "bad" photo! Except for the dubious patchy part in the middle, there's nothing bad about it really, is there?

Trillcat: that's a very good "bad" photo! Looks like hair from two different people!
Speckla, brilliant! :cheese:

MsBubbles, they both look the same!

JenniferNoel, nowhere near verging on bad!

Chaja-girl, yes, so far I have the dubious honour of having the "best worst" hair! Can anyone better me with a worse pic?

They're still all funny, though! I'm glad some people do want to play!

*Ego boost*

chopandchange
May 30th, 2010, 09:32 AM
JenniferNoel, this is not the thread to come for an ego boost! This is the thread where we get to say: "your hair looks frizzy/oily/tangled/split/windswept/hilarious!" and for once, no one will be offended if we do, because it means they're winning the title of "best worst" hair!

Normally we spend all the time complimenting each other and saying: "you hair is so smooth/perfect/shiny/long" and are very careful to phrase things tactfully if there is anything negative that could possibly be said about someone's hair (rightly so, of course). I just thought it would be nice to relax, have a laugh at ourselves and go ahead and admit that, however much we take care of it, there are times our hair looks like crap! There should be no dissing people's "good hair" pics, of course! We don't want to hurt anyone's feelings! (So far everyone's good hair has been really good, anyway)!

I think mine and Speckla's tie for first place so far, with Trillcat coming a close second due to the awesome difference between her two pics. What does everyone else think?

The ultimate test has to be: would you go outside in public with your hair looking like this? If you can answer "yes," then it's not "bad hair!"

I think a lot of people such as myself are so self critical that when our hair may look bad to us, everyone else thinks differently. I always feel like just the slightest bit if frizz is like... awful... but I guess this thread goes to show that it's never as bad as it seems.

I found some more little gems!

These are both "bad" to add to the general hilarity, though one of them doesn't look as bad as the other because back then I was still straightening.

Anyway, here we go.

Two-tone hair? That would be bad, right? Nah, not bad enough! Ladies, welcome to the world of three-tone hair!

This is what happens when they mess up at the salon and dye your roots a different colour from your length, and you get mad and swear off hair dye forever. Your natural roots start to grow, and the resulting hair is three different colours. It's a good "bad" look. Do I get points?

Yes, my hair really does go brown, then platinum, then flourescent shiny orange, then brown again. It's not a trick of the light! I don't know what they did to it, but it wasn't very good!

Then we have: how to grow out the bleach, á la chopandchange. Ignore it and pretend it isn't there. You look amazing. It's all about how you carry yourself. Not about how much those dark roots resemble a bucketful of grease and the rest of your hair belongs in a haystack.

Here's the bad hair day:

http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww146/Fiferstone/Hair%20Stuff/BadHairDaY.jpg

Check out the lovely mousehide color, the straggly, piece-y texture when unbrushed and uncombed, the utterly hideous bangs complete with impossible cowlick, and yes, it's waist-length. It looks like tailbone because my head is tilted back a bit and I'm bent forward holding on to my DS having his first-ever carousel ride (this is 13 years ago folks)
and here's a good hair day:

This is an interesting thread. I'm seeing a lot of photos that I can relate to- some of these worsts are reminding me too much of my typical hair. When I went to look at my photo collection, I couldn't find a convincing "best" because the photo I took on my best hair day came out really blurry. But that day it was like I had someone else's hair anyway. So here I'll post my hair when I just found LHC, it is looking dry and dull as a result of the not-often-discussed-here SO method, or "shampoo only" that I had been following for many years.
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a296/jaspersu/IMG_0329.jpg

And next is my hair a few months after joining LHC, after adopting CWC and trying some oil and using caramel treatments about monthly.
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a296/jaspersu/IMG_0575.jpg?t=1275263830
I'm not saying this is a best hair pic, but I do think it's a yes-that's-better pic

I like the first one best, pixna; so much texture. The second one is nice, too, of course.

Thanks, Spidermom. My hair is so wonky if I don't comb it at all -- parts are really curly, others are really wavy, and others are almost straight. I have three different people living on my head! Although I love my frizz, when my hair is piecey, knotty, and wonky it becomes intolerable for me.

Ok:

This was half a year before I joined LHC and on the day I joined my first German hairboard. It was an uncombable mess due to chemical dye for years:

This was the last shot I actually liked. Almost half a year after my one-year anniversary in LHC and a few months after I discovered to love henna.

My,my... this thread is fun! :D

This is my absolute worst hair photo.... and this was only last summer! Short...dyed blonde...two toned, and looking kinda dry. I think because it was damaged it became pin straight almost, which my hair naturally isn't.

Here is another bad one but with longer hair, before I started reading about healthy haircare... looks so dry/tangled!

I usually take 2-3 pictures every few months, when I get an amazing picture I use it on LHC. I don't think I have any 'bad' pictures of my hair... my good/best pic (current avatar) is below. For me, a good hair picture is all about the spread of the hair and the light. If it falls right it looks really thick and full, despite not being very thick or full.
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e117/lchamber78/20100224.jpg

'bad' pictures usually just don't have the hair falling right, with pieces clumping together or something... the light not hitting it right so its not super shiny... but these aren't all that bad, just not as amazing as my 'good' picture.

I rarely post and mostly lurk :o but this thread looks like so much fun!
So bad first:
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f210/iHangBottles/n536256968_431866_4199-1.jpg
I tried using sponge rollers. I ended up with Shirley Temple like curls which I foolishly tried to comb out hoping for softer less defined curls... but I got an afro instead.
Now the good:
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f210/iHangBottles/6256_142147526968_536256968_2902020.jpg
This was right after I made a huge hair chop this past summer to get rid of a lot of dry, unhealthy hair. Right after the cut my hair behaved so well and my curls looked a lot healthier and better. I am currently growing it back out, hopefully healthier than last time :p

The bad one did look worse when it was bigger. It might not win the worst picture but it does show how lighting can affect colour (the canopy looks a different colour?) and wind just makes strands look dry, shorter and one of my ends looks bent! But I confess I delete the really bad ones.

The Bad. Many moons ago I bleached the underside of my hair to get an olive color, which faded to drab yellow. Ah, youth.

The sun adds a fraudulent "shine" and the wind adds "layers". Believe it or not this was later in the repairing stages. I tried to find my expired passport photo of when this hair was still short -- you ladies would have had a laugh and a half at that mess.

Hey Merlin, my DH went through that stage about 10 years ago. His hair is less thick than yours, but shoulder length on wavy coarse-textured hair can be a nightmare (triangle pouff). Now that his is down past his shoulderblades it behaves much better. He does gel the sides or he gets what I call his "titmouse-tufts" :-).

It's just that shoulder-length is usually not fun, and no, it did not look good on him either, but he powered through it. You might reconsider even if you do look for a time like someone who is on a popular show about ridiculously expensive vehicles and creative ways of destroying them.
