My hairdresser totally destroyed my healthy 3 feet long hair! I had been having highlights put in that was followed up with a platnium toner. I went in to have roots done and hair stylist put what she thought was a toner on afterwards and it wasn't a toner. She mistakenly put pure concentrated platnium dye on my hair which destroyed the color and integrity of my hair. My hair was brunette with 70% silver. The dye made almost black streaks in my hair which now make my high lights look stark. Tried to get the dye out and my hair broke off terribly. Finally found a color correction specialist to take the stark highlights out. Hair looks better but is soooooo damaged........i don't even think the color correction will stay in for long.
I am just sick about what this woman did to my hair. Now I'm stuck having to grow it all out again in order to get rid of this huge mistake.
I'm having a hard time getting over the shock of what happened and how depressing it is. Any suggestions from others who have been through a similar experience would be appreciated.

Oh wow. I'm so sorry to hear that, I can imagine how terrible you must be feeling. Sorry, I can't offer any advice. :(

I'm sorry that happened to you... I know how it feels. You wake up in the morning, grab your hair, realize that it's destroyed and then feel depressed about it all day because you know what it could have been if you would not have stepped into that salon that particular day. I had it happen to me two years ago. After the mishap I cut it back from tailbone to waist and just wore it up till it looked kind of ok. That's the only advice I can offer. Hang in there, it will grow back out eventually.

i have damaged my hair with bleaching twice and dying it three or four other times within one year and i thought my hair would never recover.....hot oil ...is the best...and do a regular trim montly untill it starts getting better...use an oil on ur hair each time u wash it and use lots of deep conditioners.......put olive oil on ur hair once every couple weeks and leave it in for an hour.....it will get better...trust me if u take care of it like this it'll be back to normal within a few months.....Good LUCK:)

I am so sorry this has happened to you!! I don't have any advice...I ended up doing a nearly-knee to mid-back chop the last time I had severely dye-damaged hair...but I can offer a :grouphug: I sincerely hope you did not have to pay for any of the salon's services that day.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I had waist length hair and my hairdresser suggested I put different coloured foils all through my hair. She told me she was going to do autumn tones but the ones from the ears down came out like beetroot. I didn't like it - it just wasn't me so I had her strip it all out not knowing the damage it would do to my hair. My hair felt like straw afterward and I was devastated.

I was recommended Kerastase (it was some kind of repair option in mint green packaging at the time - about 15 years ago). The difference it made to my hair was incredible. I don't think haircare products had the levels of silicone in them that they do now so I'm not sure if there is something that compares today.

I hope your hair is not completely damaged as badly as you think it is and that it gets better with some TLC.

I'm so sorry this happend to you, it is terrible to have your beautiful hair ruined...
Try to give it plenty of moisture (check the SMT resipie in the articles or buy a good moisturizing mask), and plenty of oiling. Also silicone drops can help by wrapping the damages hairs and making them smoother thus preventing more damage and tangles.
Hope your hair will get better with a gentle and loving care, hang in there :grouphug:

Poor you. I had a hair dresser do this to me (she put highlights over highlights instead of just doing the roots) although not as bad as for you because my hair was only BSL. I almost wanted to just chop it all off but I'm glad I didn't. While the damage has been growing out I've managed to maintain my length without it looking that bad.

When it happened to me I did a SMT every week for the first couple on months. I already used a super moisturizing shampoos and conditioners but after I only used the aveda damage remedy treatment which has bit of protien and a few cones in it which stopped my hair from turning into a rats nest every time it was down. Other than that I put it up alot and faithfully promised never to go back to that hairdresser. Good luck!

I'm so sorry this happened to you! ((hugs))
The great thing about hair, though, is that it grows. :blossom: You've definitely come to the right place for some advice!

Too bad there isn't a hospital for hair :-( So sorry this happened. I think moisture will certainly help it feel nicer, but I'm no expert. Just wanted to express my condolences. (How can you be mistaken about what you are mixing to put on someone's hair?)

As the owner of two salons, I don't even know how a mistake like that happens. That's just bizarre. There are some amazing professional deep conditioning treatments available and the least the salon could do is offer you SEVERAL at no cost. It would certainly give some moisture, strength and vitality back to your hair. However, I would certainly have someone else apply it !!!

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Like UltraBella, I really don't understand how that happened. I hope they can give you some pampering services in exchange for your angst!!!

I hope that you will go in and see the salon manager, make a complaint known about the stylist, and get your money back, if you did, indeed, pay for that.

My sympathies to the OP-- it certainly CAN happen! (Though it shouldn't-- there's really no excuse.) The one and only time I got a perm, the lady who did it was chattering away on the phone the whole time. After I had sat there to let it process, she started applying the neutralizing solution. She set down the bottle for a moment to do something else, and when she came back to my hair, the solution she was pouring over my head burned like fire! It hadn't burned a minute earlier, so I spoke up and asked her what was going on. She just glanced down, and put her hand over the phone long enough to say "Whoops! Wrong bottle." She then went on jabbering away to her friend while dousing me with the appropriate solution.

I was only 13 or so, and no permanent damage was done... But I wonder what on earth she was mistakenly pouring on my head!!

I hope you can get your hair back into good shape, shawneez. That's so unfair, to have your hair damaged by someone else's carelessness. I know it can happen, but like I said-- there's really NO excuse. :grouphug:

I haven't had a horrible mishap like this as I've never colored my hair, but I know that protein treatments help fill in the "holes" in damaged hair. I know you can buy some in little packs, but I can't think of any off the top of my head. You can also check out the recipe section of the forum, I'm sure there are tons of recipes that you can make with ingredients you already have in your kitchen. I'm sorry that happened to you! Good luck finding something that works for you.

I can sympathise. Though in my case I cut 18 inches off my hair in a fit of pique. I needed to chop 6 inches of damage off at most. At the time I could sit on myhair - I have no idea how long it was beacuse that was before I meaured my hair.
Even 5 months on. I wake up in the morning and feel depressed to realise I have short hair now. I didn't realise it mattered that much to me. I don't feel like me anymore.

I agree with UltraBella. wow, how does such a mistake happen? That's a bit scary the hairdresser wasn't paying attention to what she was putting in your hair. since it was a mistake on her part and you didn't know she was putting on the wrong product, I think you should atleast be entitled to some free products to help repair the damage. I would also think trims, but I would be scared to have my hair trimmed there after something like that. we are talking about the years it took to grow and the years it will take to grow back all that hair. I would make a fuss till I got some compensation for such a loss.

I hope your hair and you feel better
