Has anyone here ever henna'd their eyebrows???
I really want to add a slight henna tint to my hair, but dont want to be left with my very black eyebrows. They already stand out against my natural brown hair, and I fear they will be even more noticeable with a tint in my hair.
Help! Any suggestions and advice would be helpful!
(and pics if you have them:p )

if your eyebrows are black, henna might not really show up, like it doesn't show up much on darker hair.
I lighten my eyebrows with a facial hair bleach, just leave it on for 2-3 minutes, since if I leave it on too long my eyebrows can become really white blonde. since you have black eyebrows, they might come out lighter brown with red tones. just use common sense and be careful not getting it in your eyes.

I've done mine. It never lasts long, though.
I agree with lastnite that lightening them slightly is an option. That usually brings out slight red tones, too. I've used straight developer on them for a few minutes, and it lightens them just enough to look good with my henna-red hair.

I tried putting henna on my eyebrows, but it just dried and did nothing. So, I got a regular red color box hair dye and did it that way. Worked just fine.

I used to henna my eyebrows when I did my hair -- but they are very light, pale blond. So they'd turn a fierce orange for the first week and look a little ... demonic!
I like the look of eyebrows darker than your hair. Many people's brows are darker than their hair naturally.
If you do henna yours, cover them with saran wrap (you can hold it on with scotch tape) to keep them from drying out and be prepared to hear your family laugh their head off while you sit around like that!

i've wondered the same thing, but i am worried that the skin behind the eyebrows would get really stained and it would look like i tried to put henna tatoos on my eyebrows... I agree with *halo_tightens about the slight lightening making them bland a little better. just make sure not to leave it on for too long :)

Yea I've tried the saran wrap, but it didn't really tint them well. I washed with dishsoap first to make sure there were no excess oils blocking the henna. I also lightened using household peroxide and a blowdryer. (used to do that regularly when I was bleaching my hair.) They turned out more orange than anything else, and I decided it was way too much to bother with to get them a hint more red. I think others notice but I don't really care.

I henna my eyebrows regularly - they're light and get even lighter in the sun. Invisible eyebrows - not a good look for me.
I don't have a problem with my skin staining, either. I put oil in my eyebrows first (and obviously all over my skin) and that seems to help.
I don't leave the henna on for long - maybe 20 minutes. I get a great color - not too in your face, and it oxidizes and darkens over then next day or so.
The first time I did it, though, I left it on for the same length of time I do my hair (which, really, is only about 90 minutes, tops) and couldn't leave the house without sunglasses for three days. It was a little scary.
ETA: I should mention that I use a mascara brush and an eyeliner brush to minimize skin contact and get the henna exactly where I want it. Fewer Groucho Marx comments that way.

I tried it and it just faded too quickly. I think eyebrow hairs have too high a turn over rate to make it worthwhile for me :p. They do stand out pretty bad (light brown brows, dark auburn/burgundy hair  ) so I just use a reddish eyebrow pencil. Fast and easy.

When I hennaed, I just did a gloss on my eyebrows for a few minutes to give them a reddish cast rather than trying to match my hair. I think darker eyebrows looks more natural than an exact match. In between henna applications I would use a bleach to lighten slightly and bring out the reddish tones. It was subtle, but the effect was very convincing. My hair is dark ashy blonde naturally, so for you I would recommend doing the bleach trick to get a warm, reddish brown. If it's not red enough after that, do a henna treatment. Just don't leave it on too long, and keep checking often to make sure it doesn't get too vibrant - unless you are going for that. :)

Hmmm...from the sounds of it, the henna probably wouldn't work AT ALL on my eyebrows. They are black and the individual hairs are kind of thick and long(much like my eyelashes).
I hadn't thought about a bleach/peroxide type lightener. They only problem is that my eye brows grow SSOOOOOO slow (example: they took three years to recover from my teenage rebellion, and now I only have to tweeze every few months), I would be stuck with it if I messed up.
Guess I'm stuck with what I've got....maybe if I wasn't so pale, they wouldn't seem so dark.
Thank your all you help anyway!

Well, that can be a good thing! Mine drop out and grow fast, so I'm stuck with my original color 2 weeks after hennaing! If you don't have that problem, you can lighten them a bit and dye them each time you henna.

I feel the exact same way! The was one of the things that really bothered me when I hennaed my hair - light brown brows and dark red hair look horrendous.
I tried using a reddish eyebrow pencil (and even lipliner, because it was closer to the color I wanted), but it ended up looking too dark or too dramatic for me.
I'd like to bleach my eyebrows, but naturally and cheaply without the risk of going blind! :(

I'd like to know a way to naturally lighten my brows too. I don't henna and I know your never suppose to use commerical dyes on your eyebrows.
Liners and shadows just don't look right on me.

I'm glad to hear that others have had the problem with henna fading on their eyebrows after a short period of time, I thought it was just me. I'm gonna hafta try the box dye thing, I have too many white hairs for bleach to do the trick :eyebrows:

I found the best thing to use to lighten eyebrows is lightening cream for facial hair as it's very gentle. Leave it on for about 5 to 10 minutes depending on how much lighter you want your eyebrows. The best thing is to leave it on for less than 5 minutes, wash it off, then if they're not light enough, do another short session and so on until they're light enough. Products designed for lightening hair are too strong really for eyebrows as you don't want a dramatic change.
Worst comes to the worst and you go too light, you can henna over them, use conventional hair dye, or colour them back in with an eyebrow pencil.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.

I have hennad my naturally very light blonde eyebrows with good, if only short-term, results. I think straight henna will work well on light hair, but remember the skin of the face is very thin and has a lot of natural oils (and gets washed and treated more often) so henna will fade faster.
There are pics in my album...

My eyebrow hair would always grow out so quickly that it would be back at the original color in a few weeks. So, I'm not sure that it would be worth the hassle of doing them that frequently.
