I have a beagle/vizsla mix dog, and his coat always tended to get sort of oily and dirty looking a few days after his bath. Since I found that my oily-roots problem disappeared after I stopped using shampoo and switched to CO only, I wondered if maybe his shampoo was too harsh.

I bought a very gentle herbal dog shampoo called Buddy Wash. It's been great, I bathe him and he smells like rosemary afterward, plus his skin doesn't get flaky and his fur stays nice for weeks. In fact, the only reason I have to bathe him once a month or so is because he enjoys going into the smelly muddy swamp periodically.

So anyway, I tried a new gel the other day and it made my hair feel awful -- coated and heavy and gross. I CO-washed it and it still felt gross, so I figured I might have to do a shampoo (I haven't shampooed in about a year). However, I didn't have any shampoo handy -- (I realized I needed to shampoo after I was already in the shower, and didn't feel like getting out and dripping all over the place to rummage through the closet for shampoo.

I noticed that the dog shampoo bottle said it was safe to use on humans as well, so I washed my hair with that. It was really nice -- it has coconut oil, rosemary, and a bunch of other herbs in it. Doesn't lather much but it took all the cruddy coated feeling off my hair and today my hair looks much shinier and better. A little frizzy because I didn't use any gel, so I just put on some coconut oil and that took care of the frizz.

I use Chagrin Valley solid shampoo bars, and they also offer a dog shampoo which I use on my own hair. It is very nice! :)

Probably good that it doesn't lather much anyway - probably means they went a little easier on the chemical detergents!

Glad it worked well!

I've used a CV bar (one without essential oils, before anyone worries) one of my cats with fantastic results. He was so nice and fluffy! It'll get used on the rest of them in due time, but I don't bathe them particularly often.

I've used Buddy Wash in a pinch and it was great. It worked best for me when I followed the wash with a vinegar rinse though. Buddy Wash is the best - it took the stink out of my dog when she rolled in a dead sea lion!

I'm glad I wasn't taking a drink of soda when I read that, or you'd owe me a laptop.... :D
