Hello, I'm a new member. :) I was wondering if you guys and gals could help me type my hair.
I have always thought it was straight. It is fine and silky. My usual routine for all my life has been to wash my hair, brush or comb it while wet, and blow dry it while brushing or combing it straight down.
I read a post on this board that said the proper way to figure out your hair type is to just wash it and let it air dry without brushing. So I did that today and much to my surprise, it seems to have a slight wave.
I'm confused. Are those waves "real" waves? Or is it just a side effect of the hair sticking to itself when wet? Can anyone tell me what type my hair is? Thank you! :)
Here is the hair after it had dried today:

What it normally looks like after blow drying:

From the back after blow drying (sorry, this is the only picture I could find):

I'd guess 1b. 1s can often get very straight hair with blowdrying, or even just combing while wet. They are real waves though!

I wouldn't say it was a 1a. More like a 1c. Blowdrying/brushing does straighten hair. And even after blowdrying your hair still isn't poker straight. I think tit's worth combing it when wet or whilst conditioner is in and allowing it dry naturally to see how it settles, otherwise I find the tangles whilst wet can cause artificial waves which drop out during the day.
I always thought my hair was 1a, but it's more like 1b I've realised having looked at it more closely/allowing it to dry naturally etc, not quite poker straight.
Your hair looks lovely by the way, really soft and fabulous condition.

it's a very slight wave. looks like youre a 1 type, which i don't know much about. I'd call it 1c, though.

1b/1c for sure. It's a very pretty, subtle texture. Awesome!

I'd say 1c. It's a bit wavier than mine, which I count as 1b (not poker straight, but still looks pretty darn straight). You might find it gets wavier as it gets longer or if you scrunch it while styling, or it might hang heavy and straight when it gets longer. It will be fun to wait and see! Your hair is pretty...we are almost hair twins.

I would say you were a 1c. :)

You can experience still some surprises in the future.;)

I'd say 1c or 1b/1c. Your hair is slightly wavier than mine and I think I'm 1b.

I think 1b/c. Although I'm not the best at hair typing .. ;)

Thank you all! This feels like opening a present on Christmas morning. :cheese: I have always loved wavy hair and I'm happy to realize (after 25 years!) that I have some waves, even if just slight ones.
I'm going to try scrunching them tomorrow and see if that helps bring them out. I'm so glad I found LHC!

Yeah, I would say 1b or 1c. Not stick-straight but some very slight wave to it. Yay! :D

I had a similar thing happen to me soon after I joined. I always thought I had straight hair, then I air dried it without touching it and had REAL waves! I was flabbergasted.
I find that lots of moisture helps bring mine out, and of course, no combing and minimal touching. :)
Your hair texture is very pretty.

Do you use cones? I used to use coney products exclusively, and when I first clarified them all out of my hair, my waves really came out! I've since gone back to cones part-time, but my hair definitely has more wave without them.
And I agree with melikai-- moisture boosts them even more. Maybe a SMT with coneless conditioner? :)

I think my hair products do have cones. I'm just learning all of this valuable information from LHC and haven't looked into getting better shampoo or conditioner yet. Thanks for the tip!

Your hair most definitely is not stick straight! I thought the same exact thing for the longest time. In fact, I was afraid to grow out my hair because I thought it would be unattractive. I stopped using cones and started treating my hair with care and now I have waves. They won't completely disappear when I brush or comb my hair, either.
I would also say 1c. You have very lovely hair!

It looks 1b to me, and with combing you might take out some wave.

It looks 1b/1c to my eye. Your hair is definitely not in the 2a category. It looks lovely!
