I wonder if this is from an old sign that used to hang in some store in the 70s or something. I thought it was an interesting image all the same, even if it does not like long haired men. I know I like them! ;)

I am not sure if its old or new and made to look old. Anyone know?

Apparently, it's from Singapore and was hung in public buildings as a way to shun nonconformity.

All I can hear is this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1Q7cP3ij5g)

"And the sign said long haired freaky people need not apply
So I tucked my hair up under my hat and I went in to ask him why
He said you look like a fine upstanding young man, I think you'll do
So I took off my hat I said imagine that, huh, me working for you

Sign sign, everywhere a sign, blocking out the scenery, breaking my mind
Do this don't do that, can't you read the sign?"

Yeah. To think, in the 50s-70s we'd be considered a bunch of unclean, nonconformist hooligans.
I love my long hair, man!

I'll tell you something. While there were never any such signs hung where I live, it was definitely the prevailing attitude for many years when I was a child and a young teen. It's hard to believe now, but it's true.

Exactly the first thing that came to my mind!

Glad I wasn't born then. Mixed race with hair to his shoulders? Yeesh. And I thought I had enough with the triforce of discrimination: mixed, demi-goth, gay. D:

I was a kid in the 50s and 60s and lived through that nonsense.

Not in Singapore, though!

I can, unfortunately - discrimination still exists in many forms, and it exists everywhere. :(

Yikes... That brings to mind pictures I've seen of old signs in store windows saying things like "Colored Entrance in Rear" and such. People choose the most absurd reasons to judge people!!

I'd rather be rude to jerks than to random people with a particular appearance.

Discrimination is evil. That is all I have to say really.
At least the world has improved to some small degree over the past couple decades.
