View Full Version : A mostly-down hair style?

Hello everyone. :) I was hoping for suggestions on how to do my hair so that it is mostly down but has something to add more... interest.

I am going to what we call "drama prom" tomorrow, where I would like my hair to look nice. Since I do like my hair, I plan to plop it with conditioner in hopes that I will have nice curls, but I kind of want something more. My only idea so far is to have several small rope braids, which I may end up doing. But I thought I'd ask you guys for suggestions first. :D

(If it helps any, I am wearing a red halter dress and gold accessories. We are eating and I am being inducted into the International Thespian Society. :) )

Edit: Here's how I wore my hair.

Two small rope braids going back and kind of rope braided together. :)

I like to take a small section of hair on either side of my head, twist it, and then use some nice barrette or clip to hold it in place. That way my hair is mostly down, but is also out of my face. It also looks particularly nice on curly hair, IMO.

I sometimes do something like this http://images.teamsugar.com/files/upl1/2/20652/31_2008/MariaBello.jpg with my hair, but I leave the back down. I typically do only three twists (one on top, and one on each side). Or, you could do one or two lace braids around the front.

EDIT: I don't know how fancy you want to go, but this bridal page has some pretty stuff, too. http://www.bride.ca/wedding-ideas/index.cfm/2009/4/8/Bridal-Hairstyles-Ideas-The-HalfUp-Do

What about a fairytale braid down each side?

Seconding fairytale braids. They would look great with your hair!

Just checking - are fairytale braids just little braids? That's what I was thinking of doing with rope braids. :) I'm glad other people think it would look nice.

@Others - Thank you for the suggestions as well.
• I have done the twisting away from the face thing before, and I do like it quite a bit.
• I'm a little wary of messing with the front of my hair. I keep my hair in a centre part, because I feel like when I brush my hair straight back or do some other kind of thing like that, it makes my face shape look really weird. But it does look nice on her.
• I do like a lot of the wedding styles, but drama prom is probably less fancy than an actual prom, let alone wedding. :) Thanks though!

Welcome, fellow thespian.

All of the styles that have been suggested so far are very nice. Here is another that I like for myself. It's simply two rope braids with hair added to the twist from around the perimeter until just past the ear. With your length I'll bet you could make those braids look so much better. With the right hair ornaments it can look quite dressy.

Rather than post the picture again I'll link you to another post where I've already shown the picture.

You do have lovely hair. The first thought that popped into my mind was fairytale braids, and I see that's been suggested. It also seems very suitable to the mood of the event.

I also think that if you took some hair and made a half-up (or less than half) rope-braided bun with a couple of accent rope braids, that might be very pretty.

Whatever you decide, congratulations! :blossom:

I totally agree with Capybara, my recommendation would be torrin paiges prom style 2. Its beautiful, elegant, easy and would look amazing on your hair I think. Good luck with what you choose!

What about the gibralter bun done with just the top half of your hair and the rest down.

Here's how I wore it. I got lots of compliments.
Thanks for the suggestions! I hadn't thought of connecting the rope braids in the back. :)
