Hi! My name's Erin, and I'm looking for good ideas on how to style my daughter's hair. She's nine and her hair is currently down to her knees. It's never been cut, and she does not want it cut. However, she's getting bored with the same old hairstyles, (i.e. braid down the back, bun at the top of her head, one braid on each side) and we're both looking for ideas on new, creative things to do. I am by no means a hairstylist. I can braid, but cannot french braid, and if anyone has any good sites that offer easy instructions on french braiding, I'd be glad to take a look. Also, any ideas for other kinds of hair styles or new ways of making the old styles look fresh would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ladies!!

Welcome Erin.

Another member, Frizzalot, showed a cool style on het 14-year old sister a while ago.
I found the thread (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=46973) back, but unfortunately she removed the pictures :(
Anyway, it started with a ponytail, then separate it into 4 strands and rope braid each strand about 2/3 down the length of the ponytail. Then add a ribbon and continue to braid all sections together with the ribbon into one 3-strand braid. Wrap the 3-strand braid part around the base of the ponytail and secure with the ribbon and some bobby pins. I hope this makes sense. Too bad the pics are gone.

And have you tried two buns on top of her head?

One of my favorite hair sites is all about styles on little girls' hair. I use some of them for myself. LOL. Link: http://www.girlydohairstyles.com/ Now there is a lot of French braiding involved, but I'm here to tell you that it's not as hard as it seems. For years I was unable to French braid until someone showed me a technique where you only add hair to the outside strands and add nothing to the center strand. Voila! I could French braid. My tutorial is for how to do it on oneself, but the technique's still the same. Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YC_unKDz_JA You can always go and pick up a cheap Barbie head and practice if your daughter doesn't feel like sitting still while you get it down pat. :) Oh, and since her hair is knee length, you should be able to tape it. Yet another link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqbAdvL8kME You don't have to know how to French braid for that one. I've had quite a few moms write in to tell me that the taping works really well for their little girls as it gets all of the hair out of the way and it stays put no matter what activity they might be engaging in. It's also really comfortable and they feel like a princess...which is always awesome. Good luck!

Hi Torrin! I was just going to suggest that she go and look at your YouTube tutorials. :) I have learned so much from your videos and that's why I came and signed up for the LHC.

Snap - we had the very same idea. My link just doesn't look the same but it's the exact same lady. Aren't the styles just great. I'm forever calling my 11 year old to come and have a look and "would you like me to try that with your hair???"

(the girl has cut and donated her hair, so the older entries are for longer hair)

Torrin, I love your videos! I just discovered them. Don't know if I'll ever be able to style like you do. My hair's about your length, but I'm clumsy. But having those tutorials makes it more of a possibility!
