View Full Version : I cut my own hair...whoops!

This may be a very recoverable whoops.

I cut myself some fringe, because my long bob was making my long face look longer.

The first time I did it....a few weeks ago, it looked great.
I followed a youtube video, believe it or not, and did exactly what the hairdresser said to do. I was conservative and the layers were long, and blended into the side of my hair. I have great haircutting scissors and I also cut my family's hair, so I have at least a teensy bit of experience.

I was trying to avoid the hairdresser -- but now I think I may need to go to get it fixed. the problem is that I have very thick wavy hair and things aren't laying right this time. I can't just cut fringe straight across, or simple side bangs. It's a little more complex.

It's not horrible, just not stylish. It looks perfect when wet, ha ha ha.

Haircutting is definitely an art -- and I respect those who do it well. I just can't seem to find one to do it well on my head!

Only slightly bummed. My length is growing like crazy!

Hi Beesweet,
Glad you're only slilghtly bummed. I had cut bangs and I can't stand them on me, now comes the long process of growing out, arg! I would suggest going to a really good stylist, who won't cut them short and have them blend in a little better. Ask around for a good one, you really get what you pay for, they can do wonders and in no time you will have the stylish bangs that you want.

I hope it's easily corrected. Bangs must be challenging to cut. Never tried that personally with success. :o

What I did a few weeks ago:

What I was going for two days ago, but didn't get:

What it looks like now, only not quite as nice:

Very 1984. I think I may have to sue Sean white for photoshopping his face on my hair, because this is exactly what my hair looks like.

I never had much success cutting my own bangs (or anybody else's either, for that matter!) Seems I have a natural part or maybe two and a bit of a cowlick thing going in the hairline.... so no matter what I did the bangs didn't lie straight. My hair's not like yours at all, being stick straight and fine and thin, so every deviation from "straight across" bangs showed like mad.

You are very brave to cut stick straight fine hair. I tried to cut my sister's once when she was a kid and I was a teenager, and she ended up with Betty bangs because I had to keep going shorter to even it out.

Perhaps my first hair "whoops." She forgave me because she was five years younger, and didn't know any better. The funny thing was that kids in her school started getting short bangs after that.
