View Full Version : Getting along with your hair.

So my hair and I have our good days and our bad days. There are the bad days where my hair just seems to hate me, or really want to annoy me, so it turns into a giant poof of a frizzball without any waves or curls whatsoever. Then there are the good days where my hair and I are like peas and carrots. All day she just wants to be smooth, silky, tame, and wavy with a slight bit of a curly cue. This tends to happen because she hates when I take showers. She becomes very wiry, dull, and dry right after. My hair seems to like it better when I don't wash her for 3-4 days. Then after that she's just like my cat. :brains:

So do you get along with your hair?

Ah, I thought I was the only one who compared my hair to a cat.
Back in high school I noticed my hair was at it best right before washing it. One very fine day I realized that I don't HAVE to wash if it gives me 100% probability of few bad hair days. That day, without knowing it, I switched to NW/SO and did it quite successfully for 10 weeks. :D I wish I found LHC instead though! :p

AH, yes, comparing the hair to a cat! My hair is pretty stubborn, as is my cat. Also it sometimes depends on the types of shampoo's that I use. If I use Pantene my hair seems to get a lot more tangled. And when I use Mane n' Tail it gets very dry. I don't know which one will work best for my hair, so I guess it's trial and error right? hehe.

I only recently started to get along with it. During last year, i've tried various ways to straighten and soften my hair; none of which have worked :( After living with the hair i thought was perfect (permanent extensions) I saw the dark side of the moon and started liking my hair as it is ;accepting its advantages & disadvantages.

Yeah, it has it's days. When it doesn't want to play nice, it gets put in a bun and a bandana slapped on top of it for timeout. Kind of like today, in fact.

Thats cute- 'like peas and carrots'
Somedays it can be pretty frustrating the way my hair is all uneven and knowing it'll be a while before the short bits get to a decent length.

Today after a busy time gardening my growing out sweeping fringe which is parted down the middle was all fluffy and sticking out. The rest of my hair was in a pony, this was sorta annoying but not enough to go in and get a headband:rolleyes: Just tell myself in a couple months those strands will be in the pony tail!
Another thing i've noticed is my hair seems to be all or nothing:p got to have the full shampoo and conditioning, not one or the other or it feels horrid when dry. The nothing bit is leaving it days without washing, when i tried water only it gets fluffed and gets matted quickly.
My everyday style is a doubled up pony, so at the end of the day if i wear my hair down theres a big wave and it doesn't look or feel long to me, however i'm pleasantly surprised after washing and leaving it down while drying;)

Now that I'm outta high school and don't have all those silly conformity pressures to deal with, I'd say I get along much better with my hair. Except on very humid days when she arches her back and her fur stands on end no matter what I try to do to soothe her. :D

My hair does whatever it wants, no matter how I "fight" with it, so I find my best bet is to determine any given day's style based on what the hair is already doing. :)

I had bad hair days in the past but now, I know how to manage it. :-) I know that 1 day after washing its impossible for me to braid a normal english braid, so I just flex8 it up.

There are days when she is extremely touchy for some reason, and you could almost swear she was screaming obscenities at me while proclaiming she will do what SHE wants to do, my wishes be damned. I find it best on those days to remain silent and let her have her way, and just give her a good oiling and put her up in a lovely hairstick for a good rest. Really, it is better than trying to fight her.

I'm lucky in that my hair usually always cooperates. It might be because it's ramrod straight and not all that thick, which does have its advantages. For one, I can use a 4in hairfork to hold up tailbone length hair. But since my hair is usually in an updo, it rarely gets a chance to rebel (and can only express itself by needing shampoo every other day).

My hair and I have reached a truce at the moment. It has finally managed to teach me some humbleness and I have given up trying to master it. We are stuck with each other and need to respect each other's bad days. My reaction to frizz and bubbles and fingers in the air should be to take a deep breath and relax, and let go of control. My hair's reaction to me forgetting breakfast or not remembering that we can't live solely on coffee or me nervously attacking a roll (or fifteen of them) when I'm stressed is to be a little forgiving. For the moment. It will have it's chance of payback with some severe miniature-bubbles a couple of days later. And so it goes on.

Yes, I remember the days I tried to tame it.:) Well, I had accepted most of my waves/curls (depends on the day/month) before joining LHC, but those little rebellious devils:demon: on my temples always bugged me to no end. So on the worst days I tried to straighten them. Not very often thank god, but still - tsk, tsk, tsk! past me. Now I just sigh when I am not completely satisfied with the outcome and remind myself that those little rebellious hairs on my temples will grow to be long and strong if I treat them right. So my advice - if you want long and healthy hair then just bear with it and soon you will used to it.:D

My hair and I have a love-hate relationship at the moment. I'm growing out my bangs and they love to hang in my eyes the whole day no matter how often I comb them wet to the side, or eat up and spit out the bobbypins I try to use to tame them. It grows damn slow, and nothing I do can make it grow faster. It has some weird course bits at the side that only curl if the rest has a straight day, or the other way around. I used to focus on the things that bothered me, like the taper, the overall not-so-thickness and the stringyness and that was what made me cut my hiplength hair to just below shoulder. But now I've accepted the fact that if I want long hair, I'll just have to live with the way my hair is and just cater to its specific needs. But I do love its shine, that it's easy to put up and that it dries in less then half an hour.

My hair is usually at it's best right after it dries (in a bun) from a CO wash and combed through. It's at it's worst after using shampoo, and is usually very frizzy.

So my advice - if you want long and healthy hair then just bear with it and soon you will used to it.:DThat's true! I try not to comb it as often though, but lately I have been brushing it because of so many tangles, even when I put it up in a ponytail for work.

I have good and bad days too, but just like you I find it looks better after 2-4 days, it just seems silkier. I can't wait to get your length you have really pretty hair and thanks for sharing, it helped me.

My hair does seem like a pet with a mind and personality all her own. Some days she's brattier than other days, that's for sure.

Once I stopped fighting my hair type and accept that it actually was QUITE wavy (I thought it was mostly straight with a case of the bends that made my ends look ratty), it started cooperating nicely. It only gets angry with me if I try to detangle when wet. Then it turns into a monster of ankle-length proportions. Ugh. Anyhow, after I stopped having those "its gotta be perfect or I'm not walking out that door" days and started telling myself that "it'll do" I was much more at peace with it. Didn't matter if the bun was off-center or the log-roll was crooked, just so long as it was UP and not pulling funny, it was happy with me.

I do have bad days - when my hair seems to go fuzzy dry and knotty - not all over - just certain groups of strands do this. My hair is prone to being fizzy and tangly too which doesn't help!

Some days it certainly feels like my hair has a mind of its own. Since switching to water only though, I have found that there are fewer of those days. When it's misbehaving, I usually throw it into a claw clip and try to forget about it.

These past several days have been bad for me. Tis been raining quite alot and the humidity has been really high. Not to mention the strong winds blowing about. So.....unless I have my AC cranked, it gets funny curls and waves in all the places I dont want em...

In turn ive been washing my hair an inordinate amount of times the past few days.

.....And yes....sometimes upside down...:p
