View Full Version : Post-Multiple Braids (with Pics!)

ETA: Please DO post your multiple braid pics! The title is somewhat subject to interpretation, and I've loved seeing everyone else's braids.

So, if you saw my thread from last week you'll know that I decided to put my hair into a bunch of small braids to avoid dealing with it during exams. I finished my last exam today (a grueling 3 hours of Chinese) and took them all out. The top of my head definitely started to look a bit fuzzy, probably because I wore headbands every day to cover up how crappy the braids looked up at the top-- I can never figure out how to get them evenly distributed.

I really hope that other people will give this a try-- it's really fun, and you get the funniest reactions! I had tons of people who asked if it was my real hair, and a couple people who didn't believe me when I told them it was.

So, the part you all actually care about: the pics!

My hair this afternoon, just before I took the braids out (excuse my loose, sloppy shirt):

My hair in a braid, as someone on the last thread requested:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v494/forevagreenearth/MultiBraidsFrenchBraid.jpg

And finally, crazy post-braid crimped hair (sorry about the super-greasy scalp: I'm going to wash it right after I do this post):

I love the post-braids picture; so delightfully textured. Too bad you're due for a wash now.

The one where you braided them all together was my favorite. Boy, that was soooooo cool!!!

Three hours of Chinese - I'd have pulled all my hair out by the end of that..... Hope you did well and are moving on into the next exciting step in your life's adventure.

Thanks for sharing the pics of your amazing hair.

My fiancee's hair I braided last summer. It's longer now but haven't had a chance (time) to put in mini-braids again.

More recent cornrows, but only 9.

And some cornrows braided toward the centerline of her head, like a mohawk.

My best friend and I did this when we were in high school, some 20+ years ago! I loved it then, and I've been wanting to do it again. I think I'd need help for the back, though. Hmmm... my mom can't braid. I'll have to ask my sister-in-law if she'll help me!

It looks great when it's out of the braids. I love those kinky kind of wavies you've got going on.

Eternallyverden, I apologize, I thought your thread title said to "post multiple braid pics", not "post-multiple". How a hyphen can make the same words totally different! Wasn't trying to hijack your thread!

No worries! Those are some seriously awesome braid pics that you have, and I'm glad that you put them up. I have something to live up to! I'd love to get mine that neat and well-braided-- the top of my head was a mass of flyaway hairs by day 5 or so.

Also, I fail at speaking English. It seems that as I learn other languages my English continues to slowly... oh God I can't even think of the right word for "slowly get worse"! So my bad on the title. Though it turned out to be a fortuitous accident.

To everyone else, I think I might redo this if I ever need to go to a 90's themed dance or something-- the crimped look is just too perfect.

Wow that's awesome!!! I used to do mine like that (at shoulder length) when I was younger and more recently to my daughter years ago when she was little, I liked to put beads on it thinking the weight would make it grow...I would love to do mine (APL) this summer if I get the time...and paitence

eternallyverdan - didn't it cause shedding because of keeping hair braided (without combing out) for 5 days, and then combing out on the 5th day? This is because I am also thinking of this style for my trip (travel by train for 12 hours).

Looks like a very comfortable hairstyle and it looks lovely on you.

希望妳的中文期末考沒有太難! I remember one in college where I couldn't speak any language afterward and my head felt like it was stuffed with cotton. It was so much fun! :p

I haven't done the multiple braids in ages, but you know, I was just telling someone today that I need something to occupy my hands when I'm reading so I don't keep biting my nails. You had a great idea to occupy yours by braiding!

I hope you get my PM, but if you don't then I'll put it here again: go for it! I didn't shed too much and haven't seen any damage from having the braids in.

謝謝, 我的期末考不太難. My ability to speak English seems to be disappearing anyway as I continue to learn more languages.

I say do the braiding! If you have a lot of reading to get through some night just sit in a quiet place and get started. It's kind of nice to have your hands occupied with something mindless while you're concentrating.

Those are awesome! My hair seems to grow in different concentrations on my head, so I can never get the top to stay even and it always looks sort of haphazard. The neat squares continue to evade me.

I love mini-braids, when I have the patience for them! :) Though mine always end up incredibly untidy, but never mind.

Did these in May:

I just use little, clear elastic bands. You can usually get them cheap from a drugstore, and I didn't notice any particular damage when I've used them before.

Here's my wee, blurry, offer from a couple of months ago: http://twitpic.com/28bs3c
But I'll be re-creating my braids this weekend for a festival, so I'll try and take some better pictures :)

Yeah, I used cheap clear (silicone?) bands. No damage either. I did slather lots of coconut oil on my braids (they didn't look greasy, like normal hair does when you over-oil it) so the bands sometimes even slipped off :P

hmmm

Here are mine! I got a close up to see if these are the kind of elastics everyone is using.

I got serious arm cramps by the end of it though!

These are wonderful, everyone! Are there any more pictures of this style lurking around on people's hard drives?

Here's another, more recent set of braids, done by a friend to get nice even cornrows at the top:

I've never had any problem with pulling, but you could try putting in a few accent braids and leaving them for a while to see how they feel.

Kiddo liked my hair after taking down a basic braided pair and asked for her own "wavies". So,

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=4563&pictureid=74196

This was 2 months ago, though. She loved 'em. Ran around the rest of the evening shaking her head back and forth and giggling like a loon.

Thank you for the advice, I'll try for sure.

P.S. I was traumatized when I was 12 and I wanted so much those colourful cotton braids. But after a while of braiding, my little braid just fell, and ended in the hands of the braider! (It was a very thiny thiny strand of hair, but it was shocking...)

I have discovered the wonders of tin foil. I am currently making mini braids. Really mini as in like 24 braids. I've been at it for a while now and I only have 5 done. I am using tinfoil to seal them for now until I get mini bands that will hold them better. You put on a small square of tinfoil on the ends, wrap it around the bottom of the braid and the tail, and then twist it to add evtra security. I don't know if it will work over night or not but we'll see.You know I never really realized just how long my hair is untill now.

ETA: You know what I'm going to do less mini braids because I am sick of braiding mini. As it is I have had to redo each braid I have finished and I have to redo another because it is twisting on me. :sigh:
