View Full Version : A cone question that hasn't been asked?

I've recently switched back to cones after 2 years of being cone free and have spent the past few days reading almost every thread on the topic. One question has however popped into my head which I haven't found an answer to in any of the threads:

Many people who are anti-cones state that cones can build up and cause hair to become dry and brittle. A lot of people have asked about using coconut oil and cones but my question is a little different. Coney conditioners often also contain oils and shea butter etc etc. Do the cones not maybe even help these ingredients "stick to" and ultimately be absorbed by the hairs by forming a barrier on top of them?

My main reason for asking is that I'm worried about my hair drying out after returning to cones and although I plan to clarify as soon as my hair feels yucky, I'm wondering about whether I will need to use oils and aloe vera etc even more now that I'm using cones than I did before hand.

Any thoughts - especially from the chemists among you! - will be most welcome!
