I got this when I had fast food for the first time in months. It was sitting on my desk as a little decoration and I was bunning my hair. I looked at it and thought... well... why not? And I used it as a little hair stick. Now, a pink mermaid is swimming through my bun!

It looks really good! Very different and unique. She looks like she' swimming in your hair :)

Is she the only thing holding your bun up?

All I have is an old He-Man action figure laying around, but I'm afraid he's a bit on the short side...

Yup! I might add in a hair screw if I were to wear it in public though just to be safe.

It looks more like an expensive piece of art than a bun now...

That is so sweet! Now I want one -- dare I venture into a fast-food joint just for this?

Makes me think -- I have a little plastic mermaid that came as decoration on a drink in a tiki bar. Repurpose as hair decoration?

May 4th, 2010, 10:22 AM
Haha, yes - perfect for you. I did something similar with my Gumby - which I found on the same trail where I lost a hair stick awhile back, but I didn't take a picture of it.

I think it's so fun what you can use as a hair toy. I once had an art teacher who bunned her hair with paint brushes and sometimes pencils :)

Her tail flukes fold easily and I folded them before sticking her tail through. They fins in folded quickly and tada! :) And I am sure you can find ones like it at Goodwill here soon as well. This has me looking at some of the dolphin figurines now... You know... I even have a little orca I could use.. :D

looks nice, a mermaid in the bun! ofcourse the hair has to be long enough to hold it, but feel a bit thinner/sharper toy is easy to fix

May 4th, 2010, 11:22 AM
So, inspired by my own little comment, I put orcas in my hair too! lol Here is a mother and calf (not at once).

I also have a humpback, sperm whale, gray whale, and beluga I could put in my hair, but most of those are to scale and therefore larger than the mother orca (even the beluga was made larger than the orca, which isn't true to life.) Maybe their calves would fit though... I think I just found more hair toys!! rofl.

The mother orca... too heavy to use all the time. :(

The calf... I am still wearing it and am going to go fix it before I have to go to school and wear it all day! :D

Little Orca, you are very, very inventive! I'm enjoying the pictures of sea creatures swimming through your hair.

The only things I have handy are some tiny starfish (yes, real ones...I found them washed ashore and very dead) sea urchin shells and sand dollars.

-->Looking at the sea urchin shells and wondering how I could stick them to my head and make little odango with them.......
