My sister has prom tomorrow, and I promised to do her hair. I wanted to try something classy and easy like a Gibson tuck, or a french twist, but I ended up sort of doing a topsy-turvy ponytail (maybe I should do it lower though?) and curling the hair, then pulling her bangs back in a poof (the poof doesn't seem to work and I can't think of anything else- her hair is very thin and very flat. Suggestions? :(), and then concealing the ponytail holder in the back with curly pieces lifted up and stuffed into the pocket.

This is what I ended up with, and I think it'll be really cute if I can get the bottom to curl correctly. The result I got is one of the reasons I think maybe I should be doing this lower- but I don't want the top of her head to seem flat (which is why I was thinking the poof)

This is what I ended up with today:

It looks pretty! The poof will work with a bit of teasing and hairspray if she isn't opposed to it.

I think if you try the tuck a little higher you would have more ends to curl. I've started doing a tuck with a high pony and I think it looks very elegant.

Don't clip the pouf so far back, that's why it's not "poufing".

Comb the bangs back, give it a gentle half twist, then push it back forward to make it "pouf", then bobby pin it in place.

Other than that I like the look....

How about doing two tiny accent braids pulling back into the tuck? And also, make the tuck higher. You can experiment with tucking the hair from bottom up, so the ends come out from the top and cascade down. If your sister isn't averse to teasing and hairspray, you can tease the pouf and some of the curls from the ends to make a bigger, more glamorous updo, sort of Rococo-ish.

Bump! How does it look? It was pretty humid so the frizz was bad, but I think it turned out all right.

I think it looks great! Very classic and pretty. I also like the comb on the side.

It might even look nice if all of the hair was tucked. You should try that too and see how they compare. Which one shows off her dress more?

I think a little bit of product to smoot down the hair might be a good idea. Also, instead of poofing the front, leave those slick and then poof the crown of the head a little..

kinda like this but perhaps a bit less volume: http://www.hairstyles53.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/hair-trend-big-hair-5.jpg

You might have to tease it a little but if it is prom I think very very rarely doing those things is perfectly fine.
