View Full Version : Is this a grey hair?

I might have found my first grey hair today, but I'm not sure:

While I was hurrying getting ready to go out this afternoon, I found a hair growing from somewhere above my left ear that was brown for the first few inches, and white from there down

I didn't want to pluck it, and I haven't been able to find it again for further inspection!

Is it possible for the first greys to appear this way (i.e. first growth grey, with remaining growth being normal colour :hmm:), or could it have been a rogue hair that just took a while for the colour to kick in?

Any other explanations greatly appreciated!

I should add here that, judging by my relatives, I was expecting my first greys in about 20 years time. I love the look of beautifully kept, natural silver hair, and in a way, I'm looking forward to it. It just feels a little...dizzying, being rather unexpected!

Maybe it's practicing for later. ;) But seriously, some of mine still do that and I've got established gray streaks. I don't know why the hair can change colors like that and it may go back to your regular color once that hair falls out and new one grows in.

Hm, very interesting! I don't think I've noticed any of mine doing that. Have you changed your nutrient intake at all? Getting more copper after a period of not having it?

Good question...I think I have some of those, too! I also have honest-to-goodness greys here and there, so it could be the beginnings. However, if you just noticed the one and can't find it again, I'd say no need for serious consideration until you see multiple all-greys. And that may be years away!
