View Full Version : The Lacrosse Braid

Hey, y'all. I was watching the ACC women's lacrosse championship today and saw a really great braid on one of the UNC players, #5. Our hair types, lengths, and colors are pretty different, but I wanted to recreate it anyway and see how I liked it. I've been wearing it all day, and so far it's a hit.

It's not complicated; the pictures below are pretty self-explanatory. But what's great about it is that it combines the visually interesting sectioning off of a French braid near the face with the big lift and off-the-neck coolness of a high 3-strand. No sagging, no ridge-down-the-head, and no slick-back-from-the-face of a tight ponytail.

This style isn't for those shy of pulling tight, but I think that's what might make it perfect for athletes. Also, if I were going to do this for looks over function, I'd cover the elastics with a length of hair. From TV, I couldn't see how she fastened hers; the elastics weren't so visible. So that is something to ponder. Incidentally, it looks awesome on what was probably BSL, blond, type 1 hair!

Ohhhh! Perfect for those of us who are growing out our bangs too! I am at that awkward stage and have been stalled for a cpl months. I can't put my bangs behind my ears quuuuuiiiiite yet, but I can put them up and back, and this is a lovely way to do so. Thanks Beets!

Ooo... that is pretty. Too bad I still can't French for squat or keep a hair-wrapping around elastics to stay. I'll have to try this once I master those... hehe

Lookin' good as usual, Beets.

That looks really great. Isn't it amazing that you think you know all the styles there are to do and then you see something like this and you think, wow now why didn't I think of that?

That is gorgeous! Thank you so much for posting pictures Beets! This is going to be just wonderful for me once my bangs grow out a bit more. Pretty! :)

Thanks for sharing! I have type 1 blonde hair and I will definitely try this out when my hair gets long enough!

It also reminded me of a style I loved to do when I used to have slightly longer than BSL hair-- a high pony divided into five sections, with each section made into a rope braid. Le sigh. :)

This is a great style!
Excellent for me to try as I am growing out bangs - and they're not quite long enough to tuck behind the ears yet.
Thank you for sharing!

I love it!

Not sure if it would look nice with my length yet though, but here's (yet another) style to work towards!

Thanks, you guys, for all the encouragement and kind words. I hadn't even thought about it from the perspective of growing out bangs, but how perfect.

I also wanted to add that I did this in damp hair, and when I let it down last night, I had killer braid waves without the flat spots at the top. Woot!

That's really cool, beets!

I like the frenched bangs and then leading them back into the pony braid. Pony braids are one of my go-to's.

I've frenched my bangs but not the back in a half-up, but I never thought to put it all into a pony braid!

Yay for more ideas!

Oh, Beets, you look stunning in this style! :thud: I like the two types of braids together. This might be my style later today. I love it and thanks for sharing!

P. S. You might want to put a link onto the braid picture thread (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=45350).

Here's my messy effort. I don't look as goddess-like as you do, Beets.

I think I should have done the front french a little further to the side.

OMGGGG I want to try this! :D

My bangs are almost long enough - they nearly cover my lower eyelashes - so I might have to do a teeny bang braid. But I might have found my new workout 'do! Thanks for posting :flower:

Okay, I'm wearing this today! It made it through my 45-minute yoga workout this morning...have to get the English braid positioned just right for that....and I may try a Dianyla braid (no pony holder) for the English part next time.

Love it!
