I don't know why, but two years ago, a bunch of my hair fell out very quickly, over a period of about three months. I lost roughly a third. I had been dieting, but if that was the cause, I don't know why it had not come back competely. Some has, but not nearly all.

Of course, it's still medium-long, about 24 inches. I want to put it up into my buns and twists, but it's so very thin! If I make a bun, it's about the size of a ping-pong ball.

I don't want to have fake hair glued or permenantly put in. Is there anything I can put in to make it thicker? I'd use fake hair as long as it's not glued or stitched.

I've also turned pretty gray, to add insult to injury. The gray I like, the gray and the thin, no.

Your hair may be thin, but in my experience, more length helps with the visual problem of tiny buns. In fact, when my hair was your length, the only up styles I could make were the french twist and the french braid. When my hair was closer to 30 inches long, it was long enough to make many more styles of buns.

Thin haired folks can wear their hair up at a much shorter length than thick haired folks, but even so, my thin hair would not stay in an updo without eventually falling out, until it was nearly 30 inches long.

Here is a thread about a bun that looks bigger on the head than most other buns, and the instructions are on the second page http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=19573&highlight=sapphire-O I wear this bun a lot, but you might need more length to make this bun.

This sock bun variation (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I13J7ArHTkM&feature=channel_page) really works for my thin, heavily layered hair!

Have you had your thyroid and iron levels checked? I've lost a lot of hair from hypothyroidism and anemia. Finding the root of the problem is definitely a good idea, it can lead to more serious health problems if not sorted out.

Oh, I had that checked right away, because it was the first thing I thought of. The person I went to told me nothing was wrong, but I am going to source out another doc.(I didn't feel comfortable with that last person or his clinic).

Thank you!

(a little off topic) I lost a lot of hair too, about a year ago, from being on an extreme crash diet (Got about 500 calories a day. I didn't know better :( ) And I began losing my hair. I checked the net, and discovered that this kind of dieting can lead to permanent hair loss. You can try too google crash diet, if you want too know more. But of course, I dont know if your diet was like mine. So just saying :flower:
