Cute ways to hide hair?

Hello :)

A lot of you have reccomended to try using head scarves and things like that to cover my hair when its growing though the awkward stages this summer which I've pretty much hit. I tried doing it the other day but I wasn't sure how to make it look cute at all...I either looks like a pirate or a gang member :p

I was wondering if anyone here had photos of how they wear a head scarf or bandanas or anything like that to cover up my hair this summer?

I'm sure there were plenty of times I too looked like a pirate or gang member with my scarf on. :p But, it beat having my horribly awkward hair showing. So, it was the lesser of two evils.

One way I would wear a scarf if I needed to look nice was to fold it into a wide headband and wear it that way. That gave me some leeway for pinning awkward pieces of hair that could then be hidden by the headband. I wish I had some pictures of when my hair was that short, but I kind of avoided the camera back then.

Through the awkward stage I managed quite well with lots of bobby pins to make it look like it was still a pixie, I did this until it was bob length... This works from the front, can't do much for the back unfortunately :rolleyes:

Oh oh I do remember I got one scarf to look right, it was a thin one, maybe 5 inches across, but quite long. I wrapped it around the front of my head (over fringe), and tied it at the side. Pulled to the side it gave the illusion of length which was nice... I don't have a picture but I will see if I can find what I mean online....

I remember being innovative with hairstyling, to hide the ugly during growouts. I used headbands a lot too, with a lot of different little claw clips. One favorite that seemed to look good during the worst was to do little twisty strips towards the back and secure them with the claw clips. You can also secure them at the end with small hair safe elastics and put in little jeweled pins for a more elaborate look. Another look that works faily well is to make a hair headband an inch or two back from your hairline with a french braid or to use a variation of the fairytail braid in the same way.

All of those can look fairly pretty and disguise the growout. Don't forget clip in extensions as a temporary measure, they can be a bit spendy but can help with making your hair look thicker and longer. And the colored ones can be added just for fun, making you look like the different lengths are there on purpose!

seriously, hit winners or the bay or zellers and look at sunhats. they're win-win, because they'll add sun protection as well as disguising the growing out phase.

On a similar note, I've used a tichel for hiking trips in the past: http://www.coveryourhair.com/israeliTichelIndex.html. It's really just a glorified 36-inch square of cotton cloth.

I love hats & scarfs!

Lately I wear more sunhats in battling melasma & sun damage. ...Often with a silk scarf underneath to protect my hair.

Most people know how to do a pirate tie scarf, I use that as the beginning, and then move it around the head, so the tie becomes the side or front.

Theres some great scarf tieing tutorials on You Tube.

Im wearing a buff at the moment like a few of the OP's which I dont think looks too piratey :) I have a pic in my album.

I also really like those wide hairbands for holding annoying bits back when I was growing mine out when it was shorter.

Thank you so much everyone for the links and advice! I bought a whole bunch of scarves last night and I'm gonna try all these ideas out :)

Right now I am wearing one of those slouchy beret knit hats, its good because I can tuck my mullety hair inside it and it looks cute still :)
