View Full Version : Depressed about length after taking first length shot (pic)

April 17th, 2010, 10:28 AM
I am hoping this picture will actually show up..... anyway, this is my first length shot. Note that my hair is damp and unwashed but I didn't realize how uneven my hemline was until I took the picture!

<img src="http://i894.photobucket.com/albums/ac146/jenjen10_photos/hair/008.jpg">

I realize now that I have a LONG way to go to get to waist which is my goal. Can I at least call this APL??

Grrr... I can't get my picture to show up! Frustrating.

I can see you your picture just fine, I think it is just about apl.

It is a long way to go, but on the bright side, at least you don't have bleach/really bad damage/layers to grow out:blossom:

I can't say how many times this has happened to me, as far as where I think my hair is...and where it really is. Its such a let down. If it's any consolation.. I wish mine was that healthy looking, and mine is only that long when I straighten it. :(

April 17th, 2010, 10:48 AM
Don't worry! It won't take that long. Waist is not too far. :)

I guess seeing the length explains why I am still having issues creating up-dos... Cheater's bun is my standby at the moment!

I think I am going to try to wear my hair up for a couple of months, start Monistat again, take my vitamins and just try to be patient! :) I really am trying to talk myself out of starting henna again.... :/

Call it waist-length-to-be. It's pretty, shiny hair; enjoy it.

April 17th, 2010, 11:19 AM
Your hemline maybe be just a bit off, but it's also not brushed perfectly either. It may not be as bad as you think. Hair moves around alot.

Look on the bright side, it looks healthy, and you will probably not need to trim too much on your way to waist :)

Here's the next step: cut off a quarter-half inch. I got my friend to do that at that length, choppyness and texture. Made a WORLD of difference, didn't seem like a change at all.

Beautiful hair by the way.

I think it looks great.

My hair is always wonky when it's damp. Maybe you can have the person takng the picture comb/brush the ends just a titch while you hold still and then back up to take the picture?

I'd call it APL. Keep going girl it'll get waist soon.

You're closer to wasit than I am! Your hair looks to be in good condition. Try to enjoy the journey, and you'll get there before you know it. :flower:

Your ends look good to me - you may want to take a bit off if you can't stand it, but I think they're pretty. Remember, we are our own worst critics :D

Good luck on your journey :blossom: Getting there is the fun part (:

It looks perfectly nice to me. I wouldn&#180;t take off anything if it was my hair.

You have lovely, healthy hair and its definitely APL. I love Spidermom's suggestion of waist-length-hair-to-be

April 17th, 2010, 02:54 PM
I love your color and thickness. :)

I know how you feel! My hair is also really uneven! Theres a big chunk in the middle that's quite a bit shorter than the hair on both sides... No clue why! Yours does not look very bad, though. Do not feel too depressed, we're getting into summer soon (if you're in the northern hemisphere that is) and hair-growing season! haha

I'm jealous! You have such pretty, soft, shiney, healthy looking hair!

You are on the way to waist and you're off to a good start :)

Once hair reaches the length you're at, it is the first big step to reaching your goal!

It's about APL. Don't worry about the uneven look. My hair looks like that when it's damp. If you let it dry and comb it out it will look much more even. By the way, your hair looks really nice. You'll be at BSL before you know it and then off to WL. Enjoy the journey. It seems you don't have any damage to speak of so you can probably just let it grow for at least a year without trimming. Happy growing!

ETA: By the way, it's not "uneven" it's "textured" and it looks great on you.

Thanks for all of the kind words! Maybe I will wash and comb it out better tomorrow and see if a picture turns out better.

I did order some hair sticks and my first Flexi-8 online today so that made me feel a bit better... I am excited to start trying lots of up-dos to protect my hair and hope it grows fast! I also ordered some MSM and Biotin so I am hoping BSL will at least be attainable this year. :)

I know how you feel. Try not to look at your hair from behind for a couple of months, and next time you will see the growth.
And if your ends are bothering you, trim them just a little.

April 18th, 2010, 03:19 AM
I like your uneven hemline to be honest :) And i agree it will take time but you will reach there in 3-4 months.

April 19th, 2010, 10:46 AM
You are definitely owning APL! No need to be depressed about it - we all had to start somewhere, you know? :flower: Glad you posted a pic, and happy growing. :)

Your hair looks so healthy! Be excited for your journey, not depressed! :)

Your hemline actually looks fine, I think it's just the way it's laying. My right side actually grows faster than my left, so I have a REALLY funky hemline most of the time. Try getting a half inch trimmed every 6 months of so. You'll still see a lot of growth but keep a nice even hemline.

Good luck! I'm hanging out around APL too, and I know how daunting the journey to waist seems. Just enjoy the little milestones and try to be patient. :)
