I know a few here have seen it. I was wondering how one can do the hair that lot of the Vorenus women wear around the house: tit's like a long strip of fabric is woven into their 'do, and the 'do is shaped something like an old-fashioned beehive: http://barleylegal.ca/Images/nest4.jpg

Sorry I couldn't find any photos of the 'do itself.

ETA: the "beehive" sits on the back of the head, not the top. The rest of the hair is hanging loose, usually in ringlets.

I agree. The hair styles in Rome were great. I believe the show even won an emmy for the hairstyles and costumes.

I did a quick search through the show's fan wikis and other fan sites but I have only come across costume information. I would love to try a few of those styles for Halloween

Their hair was beautiful in the mini series Rome. But just remember they had slaves to do their hair at their command. No woman of breeding would do her own hair at that time.

My SO loves that series. I thought about watching it too, and for some reason it never occurred to me it could have great hair inspiration! Definitely another good reason to watch it myself. :grnbiggri

There's some kind of Rome hairstyle thread here (http://dancemakeup.tribe.net/thread/6063d388-971c-4d0d-94a9-d6c597c5c73a).
And here it says (http://hbohollywoodsweepstakes.com/rome/book/page04.html) "Typical styles featured masses of curls, sometimes piled high on a wire framework". That beehive bun probably would need some kind of frame...

Iv done a very small cone with my styling head, but nothing on this scale.

My cone was done the following way:

Gather half the hair in a pony tail with a hair band where you want the cone to be. Then wind the rest of the tail around on itself, not a twist, more of a sideways roll and pin. The rest of the hair you can section and braid. You then slowly take each braid and wind round the roll and pin in place to make the cone.

DO! You'll love it!! I think this is our 4th (5th?) time watching it! :o

I came across that link, too, after I posted. However it mainly talks about how to make curls.

Never thought of that. The slave girl also wears her hair like that, but that's Hollywood, I guess -- it LOOKS good!

That link takes me to a generic page, but see the "view" of the book shows hair and costumes. Might have to get the book! :D
