Hi all,

Next week at work we are having an event where everyone is supposed to dress up in a toga. I thought I would try to recreate the look of the Statue of Liberty. Does anyone have any info on how to make her hairstyle, or even photos of the back of her head? I'm having a hard time finding anything!

Nubian knots along your bangline instead of wearing an actual crown? the back seems to be in a basic bun.

Thanks clichepithet! I couldn't find any photos that good. I think I'll make a cheap tiara with these instructions to top it off...how would I make those barrel roll things in front without a curling iron? Anyone?

eta: The back of her head almost looks like a sort of gibson tuck thing to me.

It looks a bit like a Gibson Tuck or roll.

Heres DieSushiBitch tutorial on how to do one, that looks pretty similar to me to the statue.

What an idea! Haha, now I'm trying to figure out how to do Statue of Liberty-inspired hair.

You know you're a longhair when...

OK guys. I have tried every version of gibson tuck that I can find on Youtube, and I always end up looking like I have a wad of poo on my head. I used to be able to do it when I was BSL or so! DieSushiBitch's method is easier, but her hair is so much slicker and finer than mine. Is there anything that looks similar that I can try?

*sigh* I hope I can explain this and have it make sense and not make me sound like a... whatever.

It looks like the bottom flip is tucked and wrapped OVER and then under/through the strap of her crown, and then the middle section is tucked UP, and then a little flipped OVER the strap. Does that makes sense? At all? Look closely at the second and third pictures...

:\ I can see it I just can't explain it.

I can see it, cause we be the same brand of crazy, but since I can see the detailing of the band I think the left and right sections of hair is simply pinned under the crown, with the middle doing the under over.

ETA: Just googled the gibson tuck, the two styles seem real similar.

*wondering if the event has happened yet and if hairstyle was successful and if there's pictures...*

With my Maki Bun theres just the problem that the hairfork is essential and not authentic..

BUT, I imagine using this technique, but rolling the hair over a hair board would work? The whole thing could be pinned in place.
I actually have a tool at home that lets you roll up hair like that.

You won't easily get a tiara that looks even remotely like Lady Liberty's, but you can very easily and cheaply make one that looks just like hers.

Look closely at pix of the "band" part of it, it's kind of a suit of armor's helmet-like visor, only it's got large spikes that come out of the top of tha "band" vertically (straight out from her forehead, not upwards-turned like a hard headband or tiara should be worn - more like how a crown should properly worn, hat-band-like).

You can easily use cardboard and aluminum foil to make this. :D

Oh - and don't forget a large book for your left hand ... and a torch for your right hand!
